Indian seafarer killed, 20 hurt as cargo ship catches fire off Dutch coast

An Indian crew member was killed and 20 others were injured when a major fire broke out on board a cargo vessel carrying nearly 3,000 cars off the Netherlands coast, with Dutch coastguards warning that the blaze could last for several days. The fire broke out on Tuesday night on the 199-metre Panama-registered Fremantle Highway, which was en route from Germany to Egypt. Several crew members were forced to jump overboard. The Indian Embassy in the Netherlands said in a social media post the fire had resulted in the death of an Indian national. "We are deeply saddened by the incident involving Ship Fremantle Highway' in the North Sea, resulting in the death of an Indian seafarer & injuries to the crew," it said in a tweet on Wednesday. The embassy said it was in touch with the family of the deceased and is assisting in the repatriation of the mortal remains. Thirty children shifted to safety as fire breaks out at Rajasthan hospital

About 30 children were shifted to safety after a fire broke out at JK Lon Hospital here, officials said on Tuesday. The hospital staff noticed smoke emanating from the AC duct line of two wards where the children were admitted Monday night, they said. "Resident doctors and nursing staff immediately sounded alert and 30 children admitted to two wards were shifted to other wards of the hospital," hospital Superintendent Dr Kailash Meena said. No casualty or injury was reported in the incident, he added. Meena said the hospital staff managed to douse the fire themselves with the help of the firefighting equipment. He said a committee will be formed to investigate the matter as the children's ward was recently constructed. Necessary action will be taken if lapses are found, he added.

According to the fire officials, they received information regarding the blaze at 6.20 pm, following which seven to eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Fire at car service centre in Mayapuri damages nearly 20 vehicles: Official

Around 20 vehicles were damaged in a fire at a car service centre in west Delhi's Mayapuri area on Wednesday, officials said here. There were no reports of any injuries, they added. According to the officials, the fire broke out on the first floor of the showroom. Delhi Fire Service Director Atul Garg said a call about the fire was received at 7.25 am and 19 fire tenders were pressed into action. The fire has been doused off and a cooling process initiated, he said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vichitra Veer said teams of police and the DDMA were also involved in dousing the flames at the Mahindra Service Centre in Mayapuri Phase-I. The fire is under control now, he said. Around 15-20 vehicles got burnt partially or completely, Veer added. The cause of the fire is being ascertained, the officials said.

A major fire broke out in the Odisha State Medical Corporations (OSMC) godown at Mancheswar Industrial estate here reducing medicines and medical equipment worth lakhs of rupees to ashes, police said. However, there was no report of any injury as the fire broke out late on Sunday night. The fire was suspected to have been caused due to electrical short circuit, they said. Taking to Twitter, the Health and Family Welfare department said: "Accidental fire broke out at Mancheswar MARKFED Godown number 3 at late night on 9th July, 2023. Some OSMCL supplies were stored in this godown (PPE kits, sanitizers and empty cylinders). All goods are under insurance coverage. Electric cables catch fire on under-construction Metro line-4 in Thane

A minor fire erupted in the electricity cables attached to the pillars that are part of the under-construction Metro rail route at Ovala Naka in Thane city of Maharashtra, an official said. Nobody was injured in the incident that occurred on Thursday evening, said Yasin Tadvi, the disaster control officer of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC). "Electrical cables on a pillar at Ovala Naka signal caught fire around 7.45 pm. Soon after being alerted, a fire brigade team and other personnel rushed to the scene and doused the fire within half an hour," he said. The incident occurred on the Metro line-4 route between Wadala in Mumbai to Kasarvadavali. This fully-elevated 32.32 km-long corridor is currently under construction. The cause of the fire is being investigated, he said.

Fire at coaching institute 'unfortunate': Kejriwal says no need to panic

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday expressed concern over the fire incident at a coaching institute in northwest Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar in which some students sustained minor injuries. Students of the coaching institute escaped though windows, and used ropes and ladders to climb down from the top floor. Kejriwal said there was no need to panic and the blaze was brought under control by the Delhi Fire Service. "This fire incident is very unfortunate. Some students sustained minor injuries while trying to escape. Rest of the students are fine. There is no need to panic, Fire brigade has controlled the fire. District administration is present on the spot," he tweeted in Hindi. A call about the fire was received at 12.27 pm and a total of 11 fire tenders were pressed into service, Atul Garg, Director of Delhi Fire Service, said. In a video shared by the fire department, people, mostly students, can be seen rescued by the firemen through windows.

A fire broke out near a departure gate of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on Wednesday night, officials said. Two women are feared killed in a fire that broke out at a multi-storey building here in Uttar Pradesh on Monday morning, an official said. The incident was reported from the Lal Bagh colony of Ghaziabad district's Loni area at 6:52 am, Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Rahul Pal said and added that the building houses a tent and catering service. At least 32 persons, including a one-month-old boy, were injured and admitted to hospitals after a fire erupted in their seven-storey residential building in Dharavi slum area of central Mumbai on Sunday, an official said. Three children were among 11 persons injured in a fire that broke out in a residential building in Dharavi area of central Mumbai on Sunday, a fire official said. The blaze broke out in a ground-plus seven-storey building on 90 feet road around 11 am and was put out by 12.30 pm, the official said. At least 70 to 80 people were rescued from the structure and 11 of them, including a seven-month-old boy and two other children, experienced uneasiness due to the smoke, he said. Six of the victims are undergoing treatment at civic-run Sion Hospital, while the remaining five were taken to Aayush Hospital, the official said. The level one fire was caused due to short circuit in the electric duct area of the building, he said. The injured persons admitted to Sion Hospital have been identified as Muskan Sheikh (35), seven-month-old Rizwan, Rukhsana Sheikh (26), Farhan (10), Nadiya (5) and Sana Dalvi (27), the official added.
