The Indian Navy's tableau at the 76th Republic Day parade showcased its three newly commissioned frontline combatants -- warships INS Surat and INS Nilgiri, and submarine INS Vaghsheer. The three platforms commissioned in Mumbai on January 15, symbolises India's naval prowess and the spirit of 'Atmanirbharta' (self-reliance). A mixed marching contingent and a band from the Navy participated in the ceremonial parade. The average age of the members in the contingent is 25 years. These personnel have been carefully handpicked from all branches of the Indian Navy and have undergone specialised training of over two months for the event, officials earlier said. SAIL supplies 4,000 tonnes special steel for Navy's warship INS Nilgiri

State-owned SAIL on Thursday said it has supplied 4,000 tonnes of special steel for INS Nilgiri, which was commissioned on Wednesday. INS Nilgiri, INS Surat, and INS Vaghsheer were the three Indian Navy warships commissioned at the Naval Dockyard in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Mumbai. Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has supplied the entire 4,000 tonnes of special steel for INS Nilgiri. The special steel provided by SAIL includes DMR 249A grade hot-rolled (HR) sheets and plates, according to an official statement. SAIL's Bokaro Steel Plant contributed about 2,000 tonnes of HR sheets and plates, with an additional 1,600 tonnes and 400 tonnes of plates supplied by the Bhilai and Rourkela steel plants, respectively, the Ministry of Steel said. INS Nilgiri, the lead ship of the Project 17A stealth frigate class, represents a significant advancement over the Shivalik-class frigates. L&T launches second multi-purpose vessel for Navy from Kattupalli shipyard

Infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has launched the second multi-purpose vessel for the Indian Navy from its Kattupalli Shipyard near Chennai. The launch of the vessel, christened INS Utkarsh, comes within three months of the launch of the first MPV INS Samarthak. The first vessel is being readied for undergoing tests and trials prior to its delivery to the Indian Navy, L&T said in a statement on Tuesday. The multi-purpose vessels (MPVs) are highly specialised and play multiple roles, including serving as trial platforms, for the development of next generation weapons and sensors. The Defence Ministry on Wednesday declared 2025 as the year of reforms and that the aim will be to facilitate establishment of integrated theatre commands to bolster jointness among the three services. The Indian Navy will commission two indigenously constructed frontline warships and a diesel-electric submarine on January 15 that is expected to significantly enhance the force's overall combat prowess. All the three platforms -- guided-missile destroyer Surat, stealth frigate Nilgiri and submarine Vagsheer -- are equipped with the latest weapons and sensors, officials said on Wednesday. The warships and submarine will be commissioned at a ceremony at the naval dockyard in Mumbai.
