Over 20 stray dogs culled inT'gana by "civic workers"

As many as 22 stray dogs have been culled allegedly by civic workers in Vikarabad district following which a case has been registered, police said Sunday. The stray dogs were killed on Wednesday last by using sticks with poisonous needles despite some locals opposing the move of municipal authorities, a police official told PTI over phone based on a complaint lodged by a local resident. The killed dogs were then buried in the municipal dump yard, the official said adding following the complaint the veterinary surgeons conducted post-mortem on the carcasses of dogs and are now awaiting a report besides the samples were sent for forensic examination to know the exact cause of the death. Following a complaint by the local resident, a case was registered under IPC Section 429 (killing or maiming animals) and relevant provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty Against Animals Act over the killing of stray dogs and a notice has also been sent to the civic authorities seeking ...

Govt teacher found hanging from tree in Reasi

A 30-year-old government teacher was Sunday found hanging from a tree in a forest area in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, with police suspecting it to be a case of suicide. The deceased was identified as Farooq Ahmad Mir, a resident of Hariwalla village, a police official said. He said the body of Mir was found hanging from a tree in a forest adjacent to his village. Quoting preliminary investigation, he said it appears to be a case of suicide but the motive behind his taking such an extreme step was not known immediately. Police have started inquest proceedings to ascertain the cause of his death, the official said.

Dabholkar case: Punalekar sent in judicial custody till July 6

A Pune court on Sunday sent lawyer Sanjeev Punalekar, an accused in the murder of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar, in judicial custody till July 6. Additional Sessions Judge (special judge) R M Pande last Thursday granted Punalekar's custody to the CBI till June 23, after the agency said it recovered some "incriminating documents" from the lawyer's laptop and that he was required to be questioned about it. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday told the court it does not require any further custody of Punalekar, following which the judge sent the accused in judicial remand till July 6. The lawyer and his assistant Vikram Bhave were arrested by the CBI on May 25. Punalekar was accused of giving advice to Sharad Kalaskar, one of the shooters in the case, to destroy the fire arms used in the commission of the crime. Telangana: Vikarabad Municipality kills 20 stray dogs, police recovers bodies from a dump yard

The workers of the Vikarabad Municipality have come under the scanner for allegedly killing 20 stray dogs on June 19.According to Vikarabad police, the bodies of the canines were buried at a dump yard by the organisation.A case has also been registered under 429 IPC and section 11 of Animal Act against Vikarabad Municipal staff.The police was informed about the incident by a man named Chaitanya in the wee hours of Sunday.The police has sent the bodies for the post-mortem and after which the samples will be sent to FSL lab.Further investigation into the matter is underway.

Minor girl hangs self in Shimla

A 13-year-old girl hanged herself to death in Himachal Pradesh's capital Shimla, police said on Sunday. The incident took place on Saturday when the girl was at her home and had locked the door of the room where she was watching television, they said After there was no response from her for a long time, the girl's father broke open the door and found her hanging from the ceiling with a scarf (dupatta) around her neck, police said. The family took her to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) here, where doctors declared her brought dead, they said. The girl was a student of class 7 in Dhalli school and was at home due to holiday, they said. Prime facie, it seems to be a suicide case, though the exact cause of death will be ascertained after post-mortem, the police said. Cong slams Adityanath govt over killing of Dalit girl in Unnao

The Congress on Sunday slammed the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh over the killing of a Dalit girl in Unnao and alleged that law and order has collapsed in the state. "The Ajay Singh Bisht rule has become synonymous with Dalit atrocities and heinous crimes," Congress' chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala tweeted. The rape and then killing of a minor girl by hitting her with bricks in Unnao is very shameful, he said. Six Indians arrested for smuggling gold in Sri Lanka

Six Indians have been arrested by the Sri Lankan authorities for allegedly attempting to smuggle gold worth Rs 30 lakhs to India, a media report said on Sunday. The accused were arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport here and had concealed the gold biscuits in their luggages, pockets of the trousers they were wearing and also their rectum, the Daily Mirror reported. "All the accused are aged between 36 and 53. They were trying to smuggle the gold to Chennai and now have been arrested,"Customs Spokesman Deputy Director Sunil Jayaratne was quoted as saying in the report. Officials said further investigations are being conducted by the airport customs.

15-yr-old dies after sexual assault in Gurugram, 3 minors arrested

Three juveniles have been arrested for alleged sexual assault and murder of a 15-year-old boy here, the police said on Saturday."The police got the information on Saturday at 11 am that a child who resides in Sector 5, Gurugram was killed. Father of the deceased child said that his son is mentally deficient from the time of his birth," said a press note issued by Gurugram police."On June 14, the child told him that he was sodomised and beaten by three minors of their locality. Four prisoners escape from MP jail

Four prisoners, including two convicted for smuggling drugs and others facing trials in murder and rape cases, escaped from a jail in Neemuch district of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, police said. As per preliminary investigation, the four prisoners - Nar Singh (20), Pankaj Mongia (21) (both from Rajasthan), and Lekh Ram (29) and Dubey Lal (19) - cut the iron rod of their barrack at the sub-jail located in Kanavati area, just about 5 km from the district headquarters. They then threw a rope across the 22-feet-tall boundary wall of the jail, climbed it with the help of some outside support and sneaked out of the prison compound, jailor R P Vasunai told PTI. Singh, hailing from Udaipur, and Mongia, belonging to Chittor, were earlier convicted under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and facing different imprisonments. NCLAT dismisses customs dept plea to auction goods of a firm under moratorium period

The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has dismissed a petition of customs authority seeking auction of confined goods of a company, which is under the corporate insolvency proceedings, saying the assets cannot be alienated during a moratorium period. Upholding the orders of the Kolkata bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), the appellate tribunal said that after order of 'moratorium' is passed by the adjudicating authority (NCLT), the customs department cannot issue auction notice despite the fact that the goods in question are lying in their possession for years. A two-member bench headed by Chairman Justice S J Mukhopadhaya said that Insolvency & Bankruptcy Code mandates "during the period of moratorium, the assets of the 'corporate debtor' cannot be alienated, transferred or sold to a third party". Elderly couple, domestic help found dead in Vasant Vihar house

The bodies of an elderly couple and their domestic help were found at a house in southwest Delhi's Vasant Vihar on Sunday morning, police said. The police are suspecting it to be a case of murder. The couple, identified as Vishnu Mathur and Shashi Mathur, were found dead at their house. The domestic help was identified as Khushbu, police said. Farmer shot dead in UP's Muzaffaranagar

A 38-year-old farmer was shot dead by unidentified persons at a village in neighbouring Shamli district, police said on Sunday. The farmer, identified as Bablu, was shot dead when he had gone to his fields at Bibipur Jalalabad village Saturday evening, they said. When the farmer did not reach his home till late in the evening, a search was initiated following which his body carrying bullet injury marks was found in the fields, police said. Four terrorists were killed on Sunday during an encounter with the police and security forces at Panzar area in Shopian district, a police press release said."In the ensuing encounter, four terrorists were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. The identities and affiliations of the killed terrorists are being ascertained," the release read."Incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter," it said.The police have registered a case in this regard and requested citizens not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials.

Telangana: Police arrests burglar, 5,000 US Dollars recovered from possession

Saroornagar Police on Saturday arrested an alleged burglar who recently stole Rs 35,000 and 5,000 US Dollars from a house located in the residential suburb of Hyderabad.According to the police, in the early hours on May 13, three persons identified as Indravath Suresh, Jatavath Santhosh Naik and Banoth Balaji had clandestinely barged into the house of a doctor in Vaishalinagar colony in Champapet.Police on Saturday arrested 26-year-old Naik and recovered 5000 US dollars from his possession.Suresh was arrested on May 15 and sent to judicial custody, while the third accused Balaji is still absconding.

MP: 4 prisoners flee from Neemuch district jail, search operation underway

Four prisoners managed to flee from Kanawati Sub Jail in Neemuch district in Madhya Pradesh in the wee hours of Sunday.Two absconding prisoners were lodged in the jail for drug trafficking while others were sentenced for committing murder and rape, respectively.All four prisoners cut the bars of the jail with the help of a saw and jumped the wall by using a rope.A massive search operation has been launched by the jail authorities to nab them.More details are awaited.

Man rapes 4-yr-old after luring her with Rs 10

A four-year-old was allegedly raped in Zakir Nagar by her neighbour who lured her by promising to give her Rs 10, police said on Saturday. UP: Woman dies after being set ablaze by in-laws, her kids demand justice
