A case was registered against a man on Wednesday for allegedly raping a 16-year-old mentally challenged girl repeatedly over the past several months in Rajasthan's Bharatpur district, police said. The girl's father alleged that the accused, Aslam Mohammad, raped her when she used to be alone at home, Kama police station SHO Shri Mohan said. The matter came to light when the girl started showing pregnancy-related symptoms, he said. The case has been registered against the accused under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the officer added.
Shyam Babu, a key witness in the Yusuf murder case was shot dead in Siwan by bike-borne assailants on Wednesday.Yusuf, the nephew of former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Mohammad Shahabuddin, was shot dead on February 1.Shahabuddin was elected four times as a Member of Parliament (MP) from Siwan. Four Rajasthan government officials, including two policemen, were Wednesday arrested from different parts of the state for allegedly accepting bribes, an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) spokesman said. Girdawar Ramesh Kumar, employed with the land record wing of the district collectorate office in Banswara, was arrested while taking a bribe of Rs 800, he said. In Bhilwara, Block Development Officer Sarjeet Yadav, posted at the Sirdiyas village panchayat, was arrested for taking a bribe of Rs 2,000 to issue land allotment, he added. Head Constable Mohan Singh was arrested in Bharatpur for accepting Rs 8,000 to remove names of women in a police case, while clerk Rajesh Tiwari, posted at the accounts section of the Jaipur police commissionerate, was arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 in lieu of releasing special duty allowance. All accused were booked under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation is on, the ACB official said.
Two suspected drug peddlers were arrested here Wednesday with 210 kg poppy and Rs 90,000 in cash, officials said. A police party stopped a truck for checking in Bagh-e-Bahu area and recovered 210 kg of poppy and Rs 90,000 cash from their possession, they said. Following the recovery, truck driver Dalbir Singh and conductor Lakhwinder Singh, both residents of Ludhiana, were arrested, the officials said. An FIR has been registered at Bagh-e-Bahu police station and the investigation is underway, they said.
As a local court in Senegal reportedly began hearing the case about extradition of alleged gangster Ravi Pujari Wednesday, authorities in Karnataka said they were optimistic over getting him back, as they have furnished 'solid evidence' against him. "Legal procedure has begun there. We are quite optimistic of getting him back. The cooperation we got from the Senegal authorities was quite encouraging," said a top official in the State criminal investigation department. The officer, who wished not to be named, underlined the fact that without the cooperation from the Senegal authorities, the gangster would not have been caught. He said India would continue to get "exemplary" cooperation from Senegal. "It will not be an exaggeration if I say that their conduct so far has been very positive. A three-year-old girl was allegedly raped in her village in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district Wednesday, police said. The incident occurred in Kalwari area, they said. A villager allegedly abducted the girl from her home in the early hours, took her to a secluded place and allegedly raped her, police said. When the girl's family members woke up, they found her missing and started searching for her, they said. She was later found writhing in pain at a place away from her house in the village, police said. The family informed the police about the incident and rushed her to a hospital where her condition was stated to be serious, they said. The accused was arrested and further investigation is underway, police said.
The Goa government has launched a high-level inquiry into the disappearance of a woman, who had accused Congress Panaji bypoll candidate Atanasio Monserratte of rape, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Wednesday. He also said the "truth about the missing woman" would be revealed soon. A 19-year-old woman, who had accused Monserratte of raping her in 2016, when she was a minor, has gone missing from a Rehabilitation Centre in South Goa since April 28. The Enforcement Directorate moved a Delhi court Wednesday seeking to declare Aditya Talwar, son of corporate lobbyist Deepak Talwar, a fugitive offender in a case related to negotiations favouring foreign private airlines and causing losses to national carrier Air India. Special Judge Anuradha Shukla Bharadwaj posted the application for hearing tomorrow. In its application, ED's special public prosecutor Nitesh Rana told the court that Aditya was not cooperating with the investigation. The court, meanwhile, cancelled the non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Aditya and directed him to appear before it on May 28. Aditya's counsel had sought cancellation of the NBW saying the ED summons had not reached Aditya's address and hence the probe agency's contention that he was not cooperating in the probe had no ground. To this, Rana submitted ED sent the summons to Aditya's last known address. Talwar was deported from the UAE last week in connection with a money laundering case and is currently .

Police Wednesday foiled a bid to smuggle bovines into the Kashmir valley from Samba district and rescued 11 bovines, officials said. Acting on a tip-off, a police party intercepted suspected smugglers walking the animals towards the Kashmir valley from Malani, they said. German authorities have carried out raids on eight individuals and 11 banks in an investigation of suspected tax evasion stemming from the leaked Panama Papers. News agency dpa reported that Frankfurt prosecutors said Wednesday's raids in various parts of Germany also targeted the offices of four tax advisers. The wealthy individuals are suspected of setting up letter-box companies via a former subsidiary of Deutsche Bank and evading taxes. Prosecutors did not specify which banks were searched in the operation, which followed searches at Deutsche Bank in November. Deutsche Bank said the investigation was directed against private individuals, not against the company, that it is cooperating with prosecutors and wasn't a target of the current raids.
The body of a 50-year-old man with fatal injuries on the head was found by the side of a road in Rupaheda village of Jhalawar district Wednesday morning, police said. According to an official, the man, identified as Sagrem Mogiya, had around a dozen criminal cases lodged against him in various police stations of the district. Injury marks on the head inflicted with some sharp weapon indicate that the man was killed by someone Tuesday night, a police official said. The body was handed over to the family members after post-mortem and a case of murder has been lodged against unidentified accused, the official said.

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued notice to lawyer-cum-businessman Gautam Khaitan on a plea by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seeking cancellation of his bail in a money laundering case.Justice Chander Shekhar asked Khaitan to file his reply and fixed July 18 as the next date of hearing.The agency had on Tuesday approached the high court challenging the bail given to Khaitan by a special CBI court on April 16. He is also an accused in the Rs 3,600-crore AgustaWestland VVIP chopper scam case.On March 25, the ED had filed a 1500-page charge sheet against Khaitan, alleging that he deposited a huge amount of money in offshore accounts. It has also accused him of not disclosing Rs 6,000 crore in his income tax return.The charge sheet was filed under the Black Money (Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets) and Imposition of Tax Act, 2015.
