A Delhi court Monday extended till May 3 the judicial custody of Sushen Mohan Gupta, an alleged defence agent arrested in the AgustaWestland VVIP choppers scam case. Special Judge Arvind Kumar granted the interim relief to Gupta, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The court had dismissed his bail plea previously. ED had said Gupta's role in the case came to light on the basis of disclosures made by Rajiv Saxena, who has turned approver in the case after he was deported from the UAE and arrested by the agency here. It is suspected that Gupta has in his possession payment details of the Rs 3,600-crore deal to purchase AgustaWestland VVIP choppers.
A woman carrying a baby and a handgun threatening to blow up the church during Easter service on Sunday in San Diego, was tackled by the churchgoers, the police said.The 31-year-old woman with a toddler and five-year-old daughter were taken into protective custody, CNN reported after quoting San Diego Police Officer Dino Delimitros.A search conducted by bomb-sniffing dog found no explosives hidden either in the church building or the suspect's car, while the woman's gun was found unloaded, the police added.The sermon at the non-denominational Church TsidKenu was about to conclude when the woman walked on stage and waved the handgun making "threats that she was going to blow up the church," police said.As people in the church approached the woman, she pointed her gun at them and the baby, ordering people not to come any closer.Churchgoers were able to take the baby from the woman's arms and snatch away the gun from her hands before tackling her to the ground.The incident took place at .
The Supreme Court Monday refused to entertain a plea which alleged that people were being bribed on a massive scale for Lok Sabha polls in Tamil Nadu. A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said it was not inclined to hear the matter since Lok Sabha elections in the state were already over. The apex court had earlier sought Election Commission's response on the plea in which the petitioner had sought creating awareness through TV, newspapers and radio that it was a punishable offence to give or take cash for votes. The petition had said that so far Rs 78.12 crore in cash has been seized in the state.
An Australian citizen was arrested after he was allegedly found carrying a satellite phone at Jaipur airport on Monday, police said. The satellite phone was recovered from the possession of Corbett during checking before boarding a Delhi-bound flight, DCP (East) Rahul Jain said. He could not furnish documents and permission for carrying the satellite phone. He is being interrogated, the DCP added.
The Supreme Court Monday issued a notice to Union minister Smriti Irani in a case pertaining to two cross defamation complaints filed by Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam and the BJP leader against each other. In one case, the Delhi High Court had quashed the summons issued against Irani in a defamation complaint filed against her by Nirupam. The high court, however, had dismissed a similar plea of Nirupam seeking to set aside the summons issued against him in a cross defamation complaint filed by Irani. The high court, on December 19 last year, had said the case against Nirupam will continue. On Monday, a bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi issued the notice to Irani on two appeals filed by the Congress leader.

Nearly a week after three bodies were fished out of the Ganga canal here, police have found that the trio was murdered and their bodies thrown in the water body. The three were found dead on April 17 and police had said that they died after their car plunged into the canal. However, later investigation found that the three were murdered and their bodies thrown in the canal, SHO, Harsharan Sharma said Monday. The three were identified as Ravi, Pradeep and Akshay.

Police have arrested one of the accused in connection with the supply of spurious liquor in Miranpur town in the district that left two persons dead. Two persons died and another fell ill after allegedly consuming spurious liquor in Miranpur town here. An Army man was arrested for allegedly molesting a minor girl onboard the Navyug Express on Saturday.The accused was booked under POCSO Act and produced in court which sent him to jail.The man serving as a Naik in the Army allegedly molested the 11-year-old girl returning with her family to Bhopal after visiting the Vaishno Devi shrine. A 70-year-old man was arrested Sunday for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl in northeast Delhi's Jyoti Nagar area, police said. According to a senior police officer, the victim and the accused are neighbours. A case has been registered and the accused and he was arrested, he said. The condition of the victim is stated to be out of danger, police said, adding further details are awaited.
