Drunk ex-Army man held for shooting at teen daughter in MP

A retired Army man has been arrested for allegedly shooting at his teenage daughter after trying to outrage her modesty, Madhya Pradesh police said Tuesday. The incident took place on Monday night in the state's Gwalior city, an official said. The 19-year-old girl received a bullet injury to the head and is currently hospitalised and the man, a retired Naib Subedar in the Army identified as Rajesh Rajawat (46), has been arrested, said City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Ravi Bhadauriya. He said Rajawat, in an inebriated condition, went to his daughter's room and tried to assault her. "She rushed to her mother's room. The accused followed her and tried to force her into another room. When his wife resisted, he opened fire, leaving the teenage girl with a bullet injury in the head," he said. IMA ponzi scam: K'taka Cong demands withdrawal of Roshan Baig's primary membership

Mukherjee Nagar incident : Delhi Police submits report to MHA

Delhi Police on Tuesday submitted a report to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in connection with the incident at Mukherjee Nagar where an autorickshaw driver was allegedly assaulted by police personnel following an altercation.The MHA had sought a report from Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik on Monday after a purported video showing the police personnel thrashing the auto driver on Sunday went viral on social media.Two assistant sub-inspectors and a constable were suspended for misconduct by the police following a preliminary investigation into the case.The incident took place after an altercation erupted over an accident.The autorickshaw driver had allegedly attacked and injured one of the police personnel with a 'kirpan'.The police personnel overpowered the driver and took him to the police station. Kerala CPI(M) leader's son booked in rape case in Mumbai,

In an embarrassment to the ruling CPI(M) in Kerala, the Mumbai police has registered a case of rape and cheating against the son of the party's state secretary, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. The case was filed on the basis of a complaint from a 33-year-old woman from Bihar, a former bar dancer, who has alleged that Binoy Vinodini Balakrishnan sexually assaulted her promising marriage and that she has an eight year old son from him. Admitting that he knew the woman, Binoy, however, said the allegation was "baseless". Six months ago, the woman had sent a letter to him demanding Rs five crore and alleging that he had married her and had a child from her, Binoy told television channels in Thiruvananthapuram. "I got married in 2008. There is no need for me to keep it under wraps. This is a blackmailing ploy from the complainant," he said. Confidential data of US firm stolen; Thane BPO files complaint

In a case of suspected corporate espionage, a Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) firm has approached police claiming that confidential data of its US- based client was illegally accessed. Bhaynder police in Maharashtra's Thane district have registered a case after Epicentre Technology, a BPO, filed a complaint, a police official said Tuesday. A New York-based debt-recovery company, which signed an agreement with Epicentre Technology in 2018, had entrusted to it confidential data including email IDs and passwords, said Atul Kulkarni, Sub-Divisional Police Officer. Some employees of the BPO who had access to this data left recently and one of them did not return his company- issued laptop, Epicentre Technology said in the complaint. 2005 Ayodhya terror attack: Four get life imprisonment, one acquitted

HC refuses to advance hearing in Kumar's prayer for quashing

The Calcutta High Court Tuesday refused to advance hearing of former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar's prayer for quashing CBI's notice in connection with its probe in the Saradha chitfund scam. The CBI moved the court of Justice Shivakant Prasad seeking that the hearing, scheduled to be held on July 2, be advanced. Its counsel submitted that early disposal of Kumar's application would help in expediting investigation into the multi-crore scam. Justice Prasad, however, refused to advance hearing in the case and said that it would be held on July 2 as fixed earlier. The high court had on June 12 scheduled the hearing of the petition filed by Kumar, now the West Bengal CID Additional Director General, after the CBI lawyer raised the matter before it. Thousands join final journey of slain Army major in Meerut

Thousands turned up to pay their last respects to Major Ketan Sharma, who was killed in an encounter with militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag, as his mortal remains were brought to his hometown Meerut in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. The 29-year-old officer was killed in an encounter in Achabal area of the south Kashmir district on Monday. Bulandshahr trio who hatched Rs 25 L robbery on fellow trader arrested

Three persons have been arrested in connection with a Rs 25.12 lakh loot from a wholesale trader in Greater Noida earlier this month, police said Tuesday. The three men -- Sunil Singh, Umesh Kumar Singh and Pramod -- also traders from Bulandshahr, had allegedly hatched the robbery plan out of personal enmity against Irfan, they said. Depressed Delhi man commits suicide by jumping in front of metro train, body severed

A 23-year-old man, who was undergoing treatment for depression for the last two years, allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving Delhi Metro train at the Civil Lines station here Tuesday, officials said. Police said the victim's body, identified as Nitin, was severed into two after being run over by the train. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation confirmed the incident that took place around 2 pm at the station that falls on the busy Yellow Line. The metro service on the Yellow Line was delayed for 15-20 minutes following the incident. "The train bound for Huda City Centre station was approaching a platform at the Civil Lines station when the man jumped in front of it and was run over by it. Man killed after altercation

One person was allegedly killed after an altercation over the grazing of goats at Fatehpur in Maniyar area Tuesday, police said. The victim has been identified as Ajay Singh (45). Singh was attacked by Kanahiya Rajbhar and Ram Kishun with a stick after one of their goats entered his fields, SP Devendra Nath said. Ajay Singh died on the spot. Man kills neighbour who objects dumping of garbage

A 22-year-old man was killed and his friend was critically injured Tuesday when they were attacked by their neighbour during an argument over dumping of garbage in Mahagaon village in Maharashtra's Yavatmal district, police said. The accused, identified as Gajanan Rathod, has been arrested within hours of the incident, a police officer said. Explaining the sequence of events, he said the deceased, Omkar alias Rishabh Narwade, and his friend Manoj Bharwade took objection to Rathod dumping garbage on the road, which infuriated the latter who attacked them with a sharp-edged weapon. While Narwade died during treatment at a private hospital, Bharwade is in critical condition, said Mahagaon police station inspector Damodar Rathod.
