Praful Patel quizzed for 8 hours in aviation scam case; to again appear before ED tomorrow

Indian succumbs to stab wounds in Israel, 2 arrested

Two Indians have been arrested after they allegedly stabbed another Indian to death here on Saturday, police said.The deceased, identified as a 40-year-old Indian national, was stabbed in their shared apartment on Neve Sha'anan Street, according to Israeli newspaper Haaretz. He was pronounced dead after being rushed to Ichilov Hospital.Initial investigations revealed that a quarrel broke out among the three tenants, following which two of them -- aged 40 and 60 -- were taken to the hospital with stab injuries.Personnel from Israel's national emergency services, Magen David Adom (MDA), arrived at the apartment shortly after the incident was reported."The man who was 40 years old was seriously injured and the other, about 60, was in moderate condition," Haaretz quoted the services as saying.

Plea in SC for action against Indiabulls Housing for misappropriating 98K cr public money

A plea was filed in the Supreme Court Monday seeking legal action against Indiabulls Housing Finance Limited (IHFL), its Chairman and directors for alleged misappropriation of Rs 98,000 crore of public money. The petition alleged that money worth thousands of crores were siphoned off by Sameer Gehlaut, the chairman of the firm, and the directors of Indiabulls for their personal use. Abhay Yadav, the petitioner and one of the IHFL shareholders, alleged that Gehlaut, with the help of one Harish Fabiani - an NRI based in Spain, allegedly created multiple "shell companies" to which IHFL loaned huge sums of money under "bogus and non-existent pretexts". These companies further transferred the loan amount to other companies which were either run, directed or operated by Gehlaut, his family members or other directors of Indiabulls, the plea alleged. Congress demands compensation and protection to family of the Aligarh toddler

A complaint was filed by the Congress's Delhi unit with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Monday, demanding compensation and protection to the family of a toddler who was brutally murdered in Aligarh in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh. A delegation of legal and human rights department of the party also demanded the NHRC to direct chief secretaries of all states to follow the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court in the matter of the "Bachpan Bachao Andolan vs the Union of India" in matters of missing children. The body of the two year old girl was found in a garbage dump on June 2, three days after she was reported missing. The girl's father had alleged she was killed because he failed to repay a Rs 10,000 loan from the accused. Four persons have been arrested in the case so far, police said. Three auto-lifters arrested from west Delhi's Inder Puri

Three men have been arrested from west Delhi's Inder Puri for allegedly stealing motor vehicles in the national capital after learning theft techniques from online platforms, police said Monday. Rahul Kumar (23), Hoshiyar Singh (23) and Himanshu Pratap Singh (24) were nabbed on Sunday night when they were moving on a stolen bike in Inder Puri area, they said. With the arrests, police claimed to have solved nine cases of motor vehicle theft. Interrogation revealed, the arrested learnt auto theft techniques from online platforms and experimented at home. They have stolen motorcycles from different areas in Delhi, a senior police officer said. Two arrested with illegal weapons in Delhi's Dwarka

Two friends who wanted to become "satta" operators have been arrested in Dwarka area of the city for allegedly carrying illegal weapons, police said Monday. The accused have been identified as Vishal Gupta (25), a resident of Dwarka, and Pravesh (25), a resident Uttam Nager, they said. "The accused were arrested on Saturday from near Kakrola in Dwarka. One pistol and two live rounds were seized from Pravesh, while one country-made pistol and two live rounds were seized from Vishal," said Anto Alphonse, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka). Delhi: One killed, two injured in clash in Jahangirpuri

A man was killed while two others sustained injuries after a fight broke out between two groups in Jahangirpuri area of North West Delhi, police said on Monday.Four persons, all residents of Jahangirpuri, were involved in the fight last night, a police statement said.Satish and Gourav allegedly first stabbed Rocky and Ravi who were taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital. They were later discharged.Friends of Rocky and Ravi reached the hospital and after spotting Satish and Gourav, they gave the duo a chase, the statement said.They caught hold of Gourav and attacked him with bricks, it said, adding that he received head injuries which led to his death. NCW chairperson demands capital punishment for Kathua case convicts

NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma Monday demanded capital punishment for the six convicts in the sensational Kathua gang rape-murder case, saying the Jammu and Kashmir government should appeal in higher court. A court in Pathankot on Monday sentenced to life imprisonment the three main accused in the gang rape and murder of an 8-year-old nomadic girl in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua, while awarding five years in jail to three others for destruction of evidence. Sharma welcomed the conviction, but said she was expecting capital punishment for the culprits. "The Jammu and Kashmir government must go for appeal in higher court," she said. The girl was kidnapped on January 10 last year and gang raped in captivity in a small village temple in Kathua after having been kept sedated for four days. She was later bludgeoned to death. The incident led to a countrywide outcry and the trial was held on day-to-day basis at the district and sessions court in Pathankot.

Malegaon blast case: Pragya Thakur gets day's exemption from appearance for ill health

A special court here Monday granted a day's exemption from appearance on health grounds to BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur, accused of conspiring the September 2008 Malegaon bomb blast. Thakur Monday filed an application through her advocate seeking exemption from appearance for one day citing ill health, which was accepted by Special NIA Judge V S Padalkar. Thakur had appeared before the court, which is presently conducting trial in the blast case against her and six others, last week for the first time after winning the Lok Sabha elections from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh. The court had, last month, directed all the accused to appear before it once a week, stating that an exemption would be granted if cogent reasons were submitted. Man bludgeoned to death in northwest Delhi's Jahangirpuri: Police

A 24-year-old man was allegedly bludgeoned to death following a quarrel in northwest Delhi's Jahangirpuri area on Monday, police said. According to a senior police officer, Gaurav and Satish got into a quarrel with Rocky and Ravi over a petty issue on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. During the heated argument, Satish and Gaurav stabbed Rocky and Ravi and fled, police said. After receiving first aid, the injured called some of their friends and started looking for Satish and Gaurav. They spotted Satish and Gaurav, along with their friends, at around 2 am in D-Block, Jahangirpuri, and chased them. Russia objects to Ukraine sea dispute case in The Hague

Russia on Monday objected to a move by Ukraine to drag it before the world's oldest arbitration tribunal over access to coastal waters around annexed Crimea. Moscow's lawyers said the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in The Hague had no jurisdiction over the case brought by Kiev over the Black Sea, Sea of Azov and Kerch Strait. Russia snatched the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine in 2014, and Ukraine filed a case with the court in 2016, saying Moscow was illegally blocking access to coastal waters around it. "This tribunal does not have the jurisdiction to determine Ukraine's claims," Russia's representative Dmitry Lobach told the PCA. Two men held for smuggling gold, forex worth lakhs by concealing in rectum at Delhi airport

Two men have been arrested by customs officials at Delhi airport for allegedly smuggling gold and forex worth lakhs by concealing them in rectum in two separate cases, officials said Monday. A man was intercepted after his arrival from Colombo on Friday. A detailed personal and baggage search of the passenger resulted in recovery of six pieces of gold, collectively weighing 1.1 kg, wrapped with black colour adhesive tape concealed in his rectum, a statement issued on Monday by the customs department said. The gold, valued at Rs 38.3 lakh, has been seized and the passenger was arrested. The passenger has also admitted having smuggled 7.3 kg gold, valued at Rs 1.97 crore, in his past visits by concealing them in rectum.
