The head of a private television news channel and its editor were Sunday remanded in 14-day judicial custody for allegedly broadcasting defamatory content against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, police said. Nation Live channel head Ishika Singh and editor Anuj Shukla were arrested Saturday, the police said. "They were produced in a local court today (Sunday) which remanded them in 14-day judicial custody," Gautam Buddh Nagar Senior Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Krishna told PTI. During a debate on the Noida-based news channel on June 6, a woman had allegedly made defamatory statements against Adityanath, according to officials. Workers affiliated to a political party had approached the police with a complaint against the news channel for broadcasting the claims of the woman without verifying facts, the officials said. A 16-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly having unnatural sex with a four-year- old girl here on Sunday, a police official said. The incident occurred under Sihora police station area, about 40 kms from the district headquarters. Sihora police station in-charge, Mahendra Singh Rajput, said the incident took place in the afternoon, when the boy found the girl playing outside her house. "He took the girl to a vacant house and committed the act of unnatural sex," Rajput said. The victim's mother reached the spot in search of her, but the boy managed to escape. The girl then told her mother about what happened, following which the latter approached the police. A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered against the boy, Rajput said, adding he was later arrested. The girl was first taken to Algin Hospital in Jabalpur, from where she was referred to Medical College Hospital.
A 12-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped by six men in Kushinagar district in Uttar Pradesh, police said Sunday. According to the police, the incident took place in a village in the Ahirouli Bazar police station area on Friday evening. Of the six men, four have been arrested, while efforts are on to nab the rest two. "A case against six accused persons has been registered under various sections of IPC, including section 376 (rape), POCSO Act and SC/ST Act," Superintendent of Police (SP) R N Mishra said. "The girl has been sent for medical test," the SP said. According to reports, the accused had a dispute with the girl's family over the construction of drainage channel on Friday morning. In the evening, they dragged the girl in front of the family and raped her and also thrashed the family members when they resisted. The mother of the girl gave a written complaint to the police on Saturday and the case was registered on Sunday, the police said.
The verdict in the case of rape and murder of an eight-year-old nomadic girl in Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir will be delivered by a special court here on Monday. The in-camera trial in the case that shook the nation ended on June 3, when district and sessions judge Tejwinder Singh had announced that the verdict was likely to be delivered on June 10. A vigilance inspector working with the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation was on Sunday reportedly assaulted by the owner and workers of a water plant he had gone to inspect, police said. Deepak Kumar Srivastava had visited the RO plant at Pandeypur here after getting a complaint that the plant was being run on stolen electricity, they said. The inspector, who was returning in his jeep, was waylaid by the owner and workers of the plant. They then assaulted him and took away his mobile phone before fleeing the spot, police said. SP (city) Dinesh Kumar Singh and ADM (city) Vinay Singh rushed to the spot along with a large police force. The plant was later seized by the police, they said. Three persons were Sunday arrested for allegedly robbing a doctor of cash and jewellery in Maharashtra's Yavatmal district, police said. The three, identified as Avinash Nemade (27), Sanjay Lokhande (40) and Anil Dodke (22), had visited the house of Dr Shreeram Chakkarwar late night on June 2 on the pretext of getting a patient examined. "When the doctor opened the door of his house, the trio, with one of them brandishing a knife, looted cash and jewellery. A case was registered with Mahagaon police station the next day. The probe was later handed over to the Yavatmal Crime Branch," an official said. A Crime Branch team led by assistant inspector Nilesh Shelke made the arrests from Pusad on Sunday, and seized a motorcycle and two mobiles for the accused, he said. The vault (khajana ghar) of Daan-Ghati temple here has been sealed and security personnel deployed to guard its treasure on the orders of a court, officials said Sunday. The authorities also installed CCTV cameras around the vault containing about two crore coins and valuables at the Daan-Ghati temple, which is one of the two main temples of Goverdhan Parikrama. Sub-divisional magistrate Nagendra Singh executed the court orders in the presence of Deputy SP Kailash Chandra Pandey and Sri Giriraj Sevak Samiti Goverdhan Secretary Rama Kant Kaushik. Kaushik had filed a complaint with the police last month alleging that former manager Dal Chand Chaudhary was involved in embezzlement of temple fund. Chaudhary was arrested on the basis of an FIR filed on May 25. Three persons died, when their motorcycle rammed into a stationary truck near here, police said on Sunday. Police seized 890 litres of spirit from an illicit liquor producing unit at Thana Indora here on Sunday, officials said. The spirit was being used to produce illegal liquor, said Deputy Inspector General of Police Santosh Patial. One Rakesh Kumar of Tanda Bana village was arrested in connection and a case under Himachal Pradesh Excise Act was filed, he said. A 40-year-old man allegedly killed his wife in a fit of rage and later surrendered to the police in Odisha's Kendrapara district on Sunday, police said. During a quarrel, Chandan Jena dealt multiple blows on his wife Banita Jena (32) with an axe at his house in Arakhakuda village under the jurisdiction of Patkura police station. The woman, who is the mother of a six-year-old son, died on the spot, police said. After committing the crime, Jena took the axe used for the murder and surrendered to the police. Jena, who was arrested, told the police that the crime was committed by him in a fit of rage, but now he was repenting.
