A woman employee of a Punjab government-run cooperative federation has alleged sexual harassment by her senior, who has subsequently been suspended, officials said Saturday. In written complaints to the head of the state women commission and the Amritsar police commissioner, the woman, working in the Markfed office here, alleged sexual harassment by the district manager, Kulwinder Singh Randhawa. Randhawa denied all allegations levelled by the woman and said it was "a deep-rooted conspiracy" against him. The woman alleged that Randhawa pulled her cheeks, forcibly kissed her and threatened her with transfer to another district if she raised her voice. Eleven Indian nationals have been arrested for gambling from a private house in Western Nepal's famous tourist hub of Pokhara, police said Saturday. The police also seized Rs 9.74 million cash from them. They were found gambling in a private house situated in Nayabazaar of Pokhara Metropolitan City, 200-kilometre West of Kathmandu, police said. All arrested Indians, except three, have been identified. The Nepali house owner Dhruva Kumar was also arrested. Gambling is illegal in Nepal. Betting on any sports event is illegal in the country.

A woman and her daughter were crushed to death by a speeding truck in the district on Saturday, police said. The victim mother-daughter were sitting along a roadside near a bus stand when the incident took place under Ramgarh Shekhawati police station area. The deceased were identified as Chandrakala (60) and her daughter Suman (35). The bodies were sent for post-mortem, police said.
A sessions court here Saturday rejected the bail plea of Indrani Mukerjea, prime accused in the murder of her daughter Sheena Bora. A special CBI court, while rejecting Indrani's bail plea, observed that the accused was facing trial on a serious charge and several important witnesses like Rahul Mukerjea, Indrani's stepson, are yet to record their evidence in the case. Indrani had sought bail citing ill-health and alleged threat to her life. This was the second time the court rejected her bail plea. Indrani, lodged in Mumbai's Byculla prison, in her application had mentioned two occasions when she was hospitalised -- once for suspected drug overdose and again in April when she complained of difficulty in breathing. She had said someone inside the jail might have tried to poison her. She was arrested in August 2015 for allegedly murdering her daughter Sheena on April 24, 2012. The ACB arrested a sarpanch and her husband Saturday for taking bribe of Rs 10,0000 here, officials said. Ramesh Kumar runs a tractor trolleys manufacturing unit in Rani Kalan village in Pali district, said ASP (ACB) Jagdish Prasad Soni. "He filed a complaint with us on November 1, according to which the gram panchayat was constructing a nullah in the village and it was planned to go through his unit," Soni said. The village sarpanch Santosh Bhati and her husband Narayanlal demanded bribe of Rs 10,000 from Kumar to change the route of the nullah, Kumar said in his complaint officials said. "Upon verification, it was confirmed that both had been demanding a sum of Rs 10,000 from the complainant", Soni said. Congress leader Pramod Tiwari alleged Saturday that there was enormous rise in crime against women in Madhya Pradesh under the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government. The ruling BJP rubbished the charge, saying it was an attempt to malign the state's image. Delhi-based journalist Abhijit Iyer Mitra Saturday submitted an affidavit to a house committee of Odisha Assembly for his alleged remarks amounting to breach of privilege of the state's lawmakers. Though Iyer Mitra had appeared before the committee Friday, he could not submit the affidavit and sought time till Saturday. "The panel will review Abhijit Iyer Mitra's statements and affidavit. If required, he will be asked to depose again," said house committee Chairperson Narasingha Mishra, who is also the leader of opposition in the assembly. Mishra said the committee would submit its report to the Speaker in the next session of the Assembly. Iyer Mitra was arrested on October 23 for his alleged derogatory remarks on the culture of Odisha, the Konark Sun Temple and the lawmakers of the state. A Delhi court on Saturday dismissed the bail application of Manoj Prasad, an alleged middleman arrested in connection with bribery allegations involving the agency's Special Director Rakesh Asthana. Special CBI judge Santosh Snehi Mann denied bail to Prasad, saying the court cannot granted relief to him at this stage. Manoj Prasad, arrested on October 17, is currently in judicial custody. The court had on October 31 granted bail to co-accused and CBI's DSP Devender Kumar after the agency did not oppose his bail petition. Delhi's Patiala House Court on Saturday reserved its order on a bail plea filed by alleged middleman Manoj Prasad who was arrested in the bribery case against Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Director Rakesh Asthana.Prasad was arrested on October 17 by the CBI for allegedly seeking Rs 5 crore from a Hyderabad businessman Sathish Sana for getting relief from the CBI's summons, and is in the middleman in the Alok Verma-Rakesh Asthana spat. His custody was later extended by five days on October 25 by a Delhi court.On October 29, Kumar had moved a bail application before the special court following his arrest by the CBI last week. In his application, Kumar mentioned that the agency did not have valid search warrants when his office and residence were raided by the agency's anti-corruption unit. During the raid, Kumar's personal computers were also seized by the officials.However, on October 30, a Delhi Court had remanded Prasad to judicial custody for 14 days.

Thane police managed to trace and rescue a 7-year-old girl within 12 hours after she went missing while on her way to meet her mother, an official said Saturday. The girl, a resident of Gholia Nagar in Kalwa township here, was to meet her mother and then proceed to buy clothes for Diwali when she got lost in the evening on November 1, said Kalwa police station senior inspector Shekhar Bagde. The girl's family filed a police complaint later in the day and four teams were formed to trace her, he said. "CCTV footage was checked in the vicinity of her house, Kalwa railway station etc. We learnt that she was spotted at Kurla railway station in Mumbai," Bagde said. By the time the Kalwa police team reached Kurla, authorities there had handed over the child to the Mankhurd Children's Home, the official said. "We went to the children's home and united her with her family on Friday," Bagde said, adding that police personnel also bought the child a set of clothes as a Diwali gift.
The body of an Australian citizen was found hanging from a tree in Bodh Gaya town of Bihar's Gaya district on Saturday, a senior police official said. City Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar said the body has been identified as that of Heath Allan (33), a resident of Westmead, a suburb of Sydney in Australia. The incident came to light when some local residents noticed it while passing through Rajapur area on Saturday morning. They immediately informed the local police. The police claimed that a suicide note was found. The note mentions a phone number and a request that Heath's sister be informed about the death. The body has been sent to Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital, Gaya for post-mortem, he added.
An 18-year-old man was apprehended by the Uttar Pradesh ATS for allegedly making several calls to the Miami airport in the US and threatening to blow it up, an official said Saturday. Legal action was initiated against him, IG ATS Asim Arun said. The accused had purchased Bitcoins worth USD 1,000 but someone duped him, following which he lodged a complaint with the FBI, an American intelligence and security service, but did not get a desired response, he said. So the accused made several calls to the Miami airport and threatened to attack it. "I will come with AK47, grenade, suicide belt and kill everyone," the man, whose identity was not disclosed, said in his calls. The FBI talked to the man but he continued making threat calls using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) from October 2 till October 31, the IG said.
