8-year-old girl raped in Bhopal: Main accused held

Police claimed to have arrested the accused who allegedly raped the 8-year-old girl whose body was found in a drain close to her house in Bhopal in wee hours on Sunday.The body of the minor, was recovered from a drain near her house, early morning on Sunday. She went missing on Saturday night. The accused was the victim's neighbour."We have arrested the accused, the man used to live close to the victim's house. It will be ensured that he gets punishment within a month so that it works as a deterrent," said Akhil Patel, ASP (Zone-I) Bhopal. He said that police was tracing him from the very beginning. Police claim to have arrested him from Khandwa.Six policemen have already been suspended including an ASI, a constable and 4 others in connection with the case.The girl had ventured out of her house in Kamla Nagar area of the state capital around 8 pm on Saturday to buy something. Madhya Pradesh: Newly-elected BJP MP Damor to resign as MLA

The strength of the BJP in the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly would be reduced to 108 from current 109 as party member Guman Singh Damor is expected to resign as MLA following his victory in Lok Sabha polls. State unit BJP president Rakesh Singh Tuesday announced that Damor would resign as MLA and continue as Lok Sabha member. In the last month's Lok Sabha elections, Damor defeated former Union minister Kantilal Bhuria of the Congress from Ratlam-Jhabua constituency. Damor was the only MLA fielded by the BJP in the general elections. A former Engineer-in-Chief of the state Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department, Damor had defeated Bhuria's son Vikrant from Jhabua assembly constituency in his maiden election last year. "State party unit has decided that Damor will stay as MP and resign from Jhabua assembly seat," Singh told reporters at BJP headquarters. Liquor stocks fall after Madhya Pradesh proposes ban

Liquor stocks fell by as much as seven per cent on Monday after Madhya Pradesh (MP) proposed to close all liquor shops in the state in a phased manner. "Alcohol prohibition will be implemented in the entire state by closing all liquor shops in a phased manner," MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Sunday at a programme. Shares of Radico Khaitan fell 7.3 per cent, United Spirits dropped 6.6 per cent and Globus Spirits fell 4.9 per cent. "In the first phase, the state government closed all the shops falling within a radius of five kilometers from the banks of river Narmada on either side. In the next phase, the liquor shops would not be allowed to open in residential localities, near educational institutes or religious places," he said.Although MP accounts for only 3-4 per cent of liquor sales, investors were worried about similar ban in other states, said analysts."The real impact of the move can be assessed once there is a formal communication from the government," said ...
