Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will join the Bharat Jodo Yatra on Wednesday when it enters Madhya Pradesh, senior party leader Jairam Ramesh said. This is the first time that Priyanka Gandhi, general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, will be joining the yatra. In a tweet, Ramesh said Tuesday was a rest day for the Yatra which will resume on Wednesday when it will enter Madhya Pradesh near Burhanpur. "Priyanka Gandhi will join the Yatra there and participate for four days," the Congress general secretary in-charge communications said in his tweet in Hindi. Former Congress leader Rahul Gandhi along with other party leaders and workers, began the cross-country Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu on September 7. It has traversed through the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra so far.

MP sees lone Covid-19 case, no death; recovery count rises by six

Madhya Pradesh on Sunday reported one COVID-19 case, which took the tally to 10,54,888, while the death toll remained unchanged at 10,776, an official said. The recovery count increased by six to touch 10,44,091, leaving the state with 22 active cases, the official informed. With 2,902 samples examined during the day, the number of coronavirus tests in MP went up to 3,01,98,008, he added. Coronavirus figures in MP are as follows: Total cases 10,54,881, new cases One , death toll 10,776, recoveries 10,44,091, active cases 22, number of tests so far 3,01,98,008.

Villagers booked for thrashing forest rangers on Rajasthan-MP border

At least six personnel of the forest department were injured after they were allegedly attacked by villagers during a confrontation over removal of encroachment on stretch of forest land on MP-Rajasthan border. The incident happened in Kasba Thana forest check post range under Baran district, when a forest department squad visited the area for a plantation drive and to remove the encroachment. On the basis of a complaint of forest department officials, around 10 people only two of them identified were booked on Saturday night on charges of deterring a public servant from discharge of his duty and hurting him. None of the accused have been arrested yet, even though the area was raided by police teams led by Circle Officer Hament Gautam and SHO Rajkumar Meena on Sunday. Three booked for cutting birthday cake with illegal pistol in MP's Bhind

An offence was registered against a village sarpanch and two others for allegedly cutting a cake with a country-made pistol during a birthday celebration in Madhya Pradesh's Bhind district and live streaming it on social media, police said on Sunday. The alleged incident took place in Gona Haridaspura village on November 16, sub-divisional officer of police (SDOP) Arvind Shah said. The village sarpanch allegedly live streamed the celebrations on Facebook while cutting the cake with an illegal country-made pistol, the official said. An offence was registered under relevant provisions of the Arms Act against the three accused, he said, adding that the illegal weapon and two cartridges were seized from them.

Bharat Jodo Yatra to conclude its Maharashtra leg, enter Madhya Pradesh

The Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi resumed in Buldhana district on Sunday, the last day of its Maharashtra leg from where it will enter Madhya Pradesh at night. The foot march, a mass contact initiative of the Congress, entered its 74th day on Sunday. It began at 6 am from Bhendval in Buldhana after a night halt at Sairam Agro centre. A large number of people lined up the route to greet Gandhi and he interacted with them. The yatra will cover Jalgaon-Jamod taluka and conclude its Maharashtra leg with a corner meeting before proceeding to Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh for the night halt. Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will join former party chief Rahul Gandhi in the ongoing 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' in Madhya Pradesh from November 23 to 25, party sources said on Saturday. This is the first time that Vadra, general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, will be joining the yatra that commenced from Kanyakumari and will culminate in Kashmir. The yatra will enter Madhya Pradesh on November 20. Vadra is set to walk along her brother in a bid to mobilise public opinion on fundamental issues of life and livelihood, sources said. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra could not join the yatra earlier as she was busy campaigning for the party in Himachal Pradesh. The yatra has so far covered nearly half the distance of 3,570 km.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday said the state's contribution to India's economy will reach USD 550 billion by 2026 as the country is expected to become a USD 5-trillion economy. Chouhan said the state's gross domestic product (SGDP) is growing at 19.67 per cent this year and it has been attracting investments at a faster pace. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a pledge to make India a USD 5-trillion economy. It will be achieved when states do their part. 85 pigs die of African swine fever in fortnight in Madhya Pradesh's Katni

At least 115 pigs were found infected with African swine fever and 85 of them have died in the last 15 days in Madhya Pradesh's Katni district, an official said on Tuesday. Following the sudden deaths of pigs, samples were sent to a laboratory in Bhopal for testing on October 27, government veterinarian Dr R K Soni said. The reports revealed that the animals had suffered from African swine fever, he said. As many as 85 out of 115 infected pigs have died in the last 15 days, the official said. African swine fever is a highly infectious haemorrhagic viral disease that affects pigs, but is not transmitted from animals to humans. All precautions have been taken and pig farmers have been alerted about the spread of disease, Dr Soni said.

Cheetahs flown from Namibia kill first prey in Kuno National Park

Two male cheetahs brought from Namibia to the Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh have made their first kill within 24 hours of their release from a quarantine area to a larger acclimatisation enclosure, an official said on Monday. The cheetahs hunted down a cheetal (spotted deer) either on Sunday night or in the wee hours of Monday, Chief Conservator of Forest Uttam Kumar Sharma told PTI. The forest monitoring team got this information on Monday morning, he said. This was the first prey of the felines after their translocation from Namibia to India in mid-September along with six other cheetahs, the official said. The cheetahs - Freddie and Alton - were the first pair to be released into the larger enclosure on Saturday after being quarantined since September 17. The successful first hunt by the cheetahs within 24 hours of moving to the larger enclosure has also allayed the park management's concerns about their prey hunting ability.
