The budget session of the Maharashtra legislature will be held from February 27 to March 25 and the state's budget for fiscal 2023-24 will be presented on March 9, a government release said on Wednesday. This will be the first budget of the government led by Eknath Shinde, who broke away from the Shiv Sena last June and joined hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party. Deputy Chief Minister and state finance minister Devendra Fadnavis will present the budget, it said. On the first day of the session on February 27, the newly recognised state song Jai Jai Maharashtra Majha' will be played, said the release. The Bombay High Court on Wednesday granted bail to Sanjeev Palande, former private secretary of NCP leader Anil Deshmukh, in a corruption case being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation. Former Maharashtra minister Deshmukh, also an accused in the case, is currently out on bail. A single bench of Justice M S Karnik allowed Palande's bail plea after hearing arguments of the both sides. He is likely to walk out of the jail on January 27, his lawyer Shekhar Jagtap said. The HC had last month granted bail to Palande in a money laundering case being probed by the Enforcement Directorate. The ED had arrested Palande in June 2021 in connection with the money laundering case. Later, the CBI took his custody in the corruption case in April 2022. Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday assured leaders from Maharashtra that the Centre would soon increase the export quota sugar and take steps to help the ailing sugar industry in the state. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday said the state government is positive about the Old Pension Scheme for teachers and government employees.
