Air India plane with 250 passengers suffers tech glitch at Mumbai airport

Around 250 passengers had to wait inside an Air India aircraft for more than three hours at the Mumbai airport on Tuesday evening as the plane suffered a technical glitch, according to sources. The Dreamliner aircraft was stranded on the taxiway for a long time and later towed to the parking bay. A passenger onboard the aircraft told PTI that the flight, which was scheduled to take off at around 4 pm, was delayed, and finally, passengers boarded at around 5:30 pm. There was no proper briefing by the crew except for the message that there was a technical glitch. The passengers were inside the plane for more than three hours, and there was also no clarity about alternative arrangements, the passenger said. Sources at Air India said the aircraft suffered a technical glitch soon after pushback and was on the taxiway before it was towed to the parking bay. McDonald's opens first airport drive-thru outlet in Mumbai, to operate 24X7

Fast food chain McDonald's on Thursday opened an outlet in the city's international airport that it claimed is the country's first airport drive-thru restaurant. The outlet, opened by McDonald's India (West & South), is located just 100 meters from Terminal 2 of the city's international airport. This will also be the first McDonald's outlet in the city operating 24x7, the company said in a statement. The airport outlet spans over 3,000 sqft, a McCafe, a dine-in area, and a takeaway counter. There is also a dedicated drive-thru lane and a customer ordering display board for customers to seamlessly order and enjoy their meals on-the-go. Vistara plane suffers engine damage, was hit by ground service equipment

A Vistara Airbus A320 neo aircraft on Tuesday suffered engine damage after it was hit by a towing tractor at Mumbai airport, according to a source. The plane, which was scheduled to operate a flight from Mumbai to Kolkata, has been grounded and is undergoing necessary checks and repair. One of the engines of the aircraft suffered extensive damage after being hit by the towing tractor, the source said. "While on ground, Vistara aircraft operating flight UK 775 from Mumbai to Kolkata on August 1, 2023 got hit by a ground service equipment, causing damage to one of the engines," a Vistara spokesperson said in a statement. The aircraft is undergoing necessary checks and repair, the spokesperson added. Man talks about 'hijacking' over phone before flight take-off, arrested

A 23-year-old male passenger on board Vistara's Mumbai-Delhi flight was arrested after he was heard speaking over his phone about a "hijacking plan" shortly before the plane was to take off from the city airport, officials said on Friday. 300 VietJet flight passengers stranded at Mumbai airport due to glitch

As many as 300 passengers of a VietJet flight to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam were stranded at the city airport for around 10 hours due to a glitch in the aircraft, according to a passenger. The passenger, on the condition of anonymity, alleged that the airline did not provide hotel accommodation or food for passengers despite the long delay. The Mumbai airport handled close to 44 million passengers in FY2022-23, which is close to 90 per cent of the pre-pandemic load the nation's second-largest air transport facility handled. Mumbai Airport on Tuesday said both its runways will remain temporarily closed for operations for five hours on May 2 as part of the facility's monsoon contingency plan. The scheduled temporary runway closure is an annual exercise and a contingency plan on the same will help maintain operational continuity and ensure passengers' safety, the private airport operator said in a statement. Mumbai Airport plans to deploy over 100 EVs at facility by FY24: MIAL

Adani Group-owned Mumbai Airport has said it is looking to deploy more than 100 electric vehicles at the facility by FY24 to reduce its carbon footprint and promote sustainable transportation. As part of the plan, the airport operator on Wednesday rolled out 45 EVs at the facility, Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) said in a statement. The private airport operator also said it intends to replace all its ICE-powered vehicles with EVs as part of its Operational Net Zero mission by 2029. Congestion at airports: CISF adds 100 more personnel at security counters

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has prepared a pool of more than 100 personnel to man additional security counters expected to be handed over to it for easing the ongoing congestion at large airports of Delhi and Mumbai, official sources said Wednesday. Mumbai International Airport said on Friday it has set up six fast Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations at the facility as part of its plan to become carbon neutral.
