CM Sai praises Kashmiri guide for saving Chhattisgarh tourists in Pahalgam

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Sunday expressed gratitude to Kashmiri tourist guide Nazakat Ahmad Shah who saved a group of tourists from Chhattisgarh during the Pahalgam terror attack, and pointed out that the Muslim community is getting a bad name because of some people. "All Muslims aren't bad and the community is becoming infamous due to some people," Sai said in an exclusive interview to PTI. Asked what India should do to retaliate against Pakistan for sponsoring the April 22 attack in the Kashmir vale, Sai said he thinks that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government will take strong action. He did not elaborate but said the Central government is in control of the situation. "I strongly condemn the attack by terrorists in Pahalgam. They killed innocent and unarmed people who had gone for holidaying with their families after questioning their religion, which is a cowardly act. The nation has lost 26 people. Chhattisgarh has also lost its son," the chief minister said.

Air Chief meets PM Modi amid Indo-Pak tensions after Pahalgam attack

Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A P Singh on Sunday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is understood to have discussed the security situation arising out of the rising tensions between India and Pakistan over the deadly Pahalgam terror attack. The meeting came less than 24 hours after Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi apprised the prime minister on the overall situation in the critical sea lanes in the Arabian Sea. The Air chief held a meeting with PM Modi, sources said without giving further details. There is no official word on the Modi-Singh meeting yet. Citing "cross-border linkages" to the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians, India has promised severe punishment to those involved in the strike. In a high-level meeting with the top defence brass, Prime Minister Modi on last Tuesday gave the armed forces "complete operational freedom" to decide on the mode, targets and timing of the response to the Pahalgam terror attack. Modi also emphasised the nationa

Govt has likely cut water flow through Baglihar dam after Indus Treaty halt

India has stanched the flow of water through the Baglihar Dam on the Chenab River and is planning similar measures at the Kishanganga Dam on the Jhelum River, a source said. The source familiar with the matter said these hydroelectric dams -- Baglihar in Ramban in Jammu and Kishanganga in north Kashmir -- offer India the ability to regulate the timing of water releases. India's decision to suspend the decades-old treaty follows the killing of 26 people, mostly tourists, in a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. The Indus Waters Treaty, brokered by the World Bank, has governed the use of the Indus River and its tributaries between India and Pakistan since 1960. The Baglihar Dam has been a longstanding point of contention between the two neighbours, with Pakistan having sought World Bank arbitration in the past. The Kishanganga Dam has faced legal and diplomatic scrutiny, especially regarding its impact on the Neelum River, a tributary of the Jhelum.

"While Pakistan grapples with recurring crises and shrinking influence, India is racing ahead, setting global benchmarks in growth, technology, and self-reliance," he added. Sarma pointed out that India's GDP currently stands at USD 4.19 trillion, making it the fifth largest economy in the world, while the same of Pakistan is just USD 357 billion which is less than what a single state like Maharashtra contributes. Will strike any Indian structure built on Indus River: Pak defence minister

Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has warned India that it would strike any structure that is built on the Indus River in violation of the Indus Waters Treaty, which was suspended following the Pahalgam terror attack. Ties between the two neighbouring countries plummeted following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists. India, among other punitive actions, announced the suspension of the 1960 accord, which governs water sharing between the two countries. Speaking on a Geo News programme on Friday, the defence minister said, Certainly, if they attempt to build any kind of structure, we will strike it. Asif said that building any structure on the Indus River would be seen as Indian aggression against Pakistan. Aggression is not just about firing cannons or bullets; it has many faces. One of those faces is [blocking or diverting water], which could lead to deaths due to hunger and thirst, he added. The defence minister said, If they make an
