Describing the Pachpadra (Barmer) refinery as an ambitious project for the entire country, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday stressed on starting commercial production from it by the end of next year. Gehlot said that this project will make Rajasthan a hub of petroleum based industries. The CM on Friday held a review meeting of the HPCL- Rajasthan Refinery Limited (HRRL) project at Pachpadra in Barmer. "Pachpadra Refinery is an ambitious project not only for Rajasthan but for the whole country. This is the first refinery where a petro-chemical complex for the manufacture of petroleum by-products is being developed," a release quoting Gehlot said. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday claimed that his government has fulfilled 90 per cent of its election promises and the state government aims to provide relief to the common man. He further claimed to have not imposed even a single new tax in the last five years. "I have completed almost 90 per cent of promises made in the Congress manifesto. I presented five budgets as finance minister and did not impose new taxes," he said while addressing the inauguration-foundation ceremony of development works worth Rs 143 crore in Barmer. Rajasthan has received 62.4 mm rainfall in May this time, the highest for the month in the past over 100 years, the India Meteorological Department said on Thursday. The state generally receives an average of 13.6 mm of rainfall in May. But this time, due to multiple western disturbances -- weather systems that originate in the Mediterranean region and bring unseasonal rainfall to northwest India -- and other reasons, it rained a total of 62.4 mm. "This is the highest rainfall this month in the last 100 years," the meteorological department said. Rajasthan recorded 71.9 mm of rainfall in May 1917. The weather department has predicted thunderstorms and rainfall in Bikaner, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Jaipur and Bharatpur divisions on Friday. Rainfall activity will increase on Saturday and Sunday and is likely to continue till June five and six. Temperatures are likely to increase from June 7 and 8, the department said.

Ridiculing the Rajasthan government's decision to provide 100 units electricity free per month to every household, the opposition BJP on Thursday claimed Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot keeps on making such announcements without fulfilling them. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday announced waiving charges for the first 100 units of electricity for all households irrespective of their total consumption per month. "The first 100 units of electricity will be given free of cost to families who consume more than 100 units per month. That is, no matter how much the bill comes, they will not have to pay any electricity charge for the first 100 units," he tweeted. The chief minister said that keeping the middle-class people in mind, those who consume electricity up to 200 units per month, the first 100 units will be free. Along with this, fixed charges, fuel surcharge and all other charges for consumption up to 200 units will be waived, he said. According to sources, only electricity charges need to be given between 100 to 200 units. Heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places in east Rajasthan, while thunderstorms coupled with gusty winds and light to moderate rains were recorded at isolated pockets in the state in the last 24 hours. According to the Disaster Relief and Management Department, a total of 13 deaths related to rain and storm have been reported in the state in the last two days. The Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), an ally of the BJP in Haryana, on Friday said it will contest the assembly elections in Rajasthan in alliance with the saffron party. JJP president Ajay Singh Chautala said Prithvi Meel has been appointed the party's Rajasthan unit chief and BJP leader Subhash Maharia's nephew Prateek Maharia its youth front president.
