The Tihar Jail administration has issued a show cause notice to the superintendent of jail number 7 for transferring two inmates to former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain's cell, officials said on Monday. Jain had submitted an application to the jail administration requesting that two inmates be lodged with him as he was feeling depressed and lonely, they said. The superintendent transferred the inmates without informing or discussing the matter with the administration, a senior official said. When the jail administration came to know about it, a show cause notice was issued to the concerned officer who then transferred the inmates back, he said. "A show cause notice has been issued to the superintendent of jail no 7 of Tihar Jail by Director General Sanjay Beniwal seeking an explanation for transferring the inmates to the former Delhi minister's cell without following certain guidelines and for not informing the jail administration before taking the step," the official said. The chief minister of Delhi said that the party getting the status of national party in a short span of 10 years was a "miraculous and incredible" achievement
The Aam Aadmi Party on Monday claimed to have collected signatures of more than 10 lakh Delhiites against the arrests of its leaders Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain. The signatures were collected during a door-to-door campaign launched by AAP on March 13 across Delhi to demand justice for the release of its senior leaders lodged in jail. Party's state convener Gopal Rai said now a letter will be sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to mark the protest. "The people of Delhi wish to convey one message to the nation's Prime Minister Narendra Modi: Do good work and let the administration of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal work in Delhi," he said. Delhi environment minister said Lok Sabha in-charge, district in-charge, co-ordinators, MLAs and councillors of the party visited around 2,800 polling stations in the 70 Vidhan Sabha constituencies of Delhi and collected signatures from the people. "We set a goal of collecting roughly 10 lakh signatures of the residents of Delhi against the
The Aam Aadmi Party on Monday said it has collected more than 10 lakh signatures during its door-to-door campaign against the arrests of its leaders Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain. Following this, a letter will be sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to protest the arrest of Sisodia and Jain, the AAP's Delhi unit convener Gopal Rai said. The party had last month kick-started the door-to-door campaign in all the wards of Delhi to collect signatures from the residents. "Our target was to collect 10 lakh signatures and we achieved it on Sunday. Our district incharges, Lok Sabha incharges and councillors were involved in the campaign," Rai said. Everyone knows that Sisodia and Jain were the people who transformed the education and healthcare system in the national capital, Rai claimed. "Sisodia transformed the government schools while Jain gave the model of mohalla clinics. People are angry at the fact that these people have been put behind bars," he said during a press ...
The AAP on Monday kicked off signature and door-to-door campaigns as part of its protest against the arrest of party leaders Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain on corruption charges. The campaigns started near the Metro station at Laxmi Nagar in the presence of Gopal Rai, the AAP's Delhi convenor. The AAP has alleged that Jain and Sisodia were arrested to stop the Delhi government's good work in health and education. Through these campaigns, the AAP aims to apprise people about the "false cases" registered against Sisodia and Jain. Jain is lodged in Tihar jail in connection with a money laundering case. He was arrested last May. The CBI arrested Sisodia on February 26 in connection with alleged irregularities related to implementation of the now scrapped Excise Policy, 2021-22. The two leaders have since resigned from the Delhi Cabinet, being replaced by Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj. BJP leaders on Monday also staged a 'maun vrat (silent sit-in)' at Rajghat to press for Delhi Chie
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said he will pray for the country on Holi as he claimed those doing good work are being arrested while those looting the country are getting away. Addressing a digital press conference, he said he was worried about the state of affairs in the country. "Everyone knows that government schools and hospitals are in a bad shape... But two people -- Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain -- who improved these government schools and hospitals are in jail," he said. The chief minister said it is worrisome that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has imprisoned those doing good work for the country, while those looting it are being embraced. "On Holi, I will meditate and pray for improving the sorry state of affairs in the country. If you also feel the prime minister is not doing the right thing, you should also pray for the country after celebrating the festival," he said. "I am not worried about Sisodia and Jain being in jail. They are brave people who

Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has received the resignation letters of AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, and has forwarded them to President Droupadi Murmu, officials said on Wednesday. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's trusted lieutenants -- Sisodia and Jain -- both arrested on corruption charges, resigned from the Cabinet on Tuesday. Kejriwal had accepted the resignations of the two leaders who played a pivotal role in implementing his governance agenda of good education and health facilities in the national capital, according to officials. "The L-G upon request from the chief minister to accept the resignations of ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyander Jain, on February 28, has recommended to the President, that the resignations may be accepted," said a Raj Niwas official. The opposition BJP had been demanding the resignation of Jain after his arrest in May last year by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case. Sisodia too faced the heat af
Delhi ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain on Tuesday resigned from the Cabinet, amid corruption allegations against them. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has accepted their resignations, officials said. Deputy Chief Minister Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on Sunday evening in connection with alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped liquor policy for 2021-22. Jain is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in a money laundering case.
The Delhi High Court will hear final submissions of Enforcement Directorate on the bail plea of jailed AAP Minister Satyendar Jain on February 27 in connection with a money laundering case
The CBI interrogated Delhi minister Satyendar Jain in Tihar Jail here in connection with the Delhi excise policy scam, his lawyer said on Wednesday. The counsel said the investigation agency had moved an application before Special Judge M K Nagpal last Friday in this regard, and the same was allowed. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) quizzed the politician on Monday following the court order, advocate Mohd Irshad said. Jain is currently lodged in Tihar jail in connection with a money laundering case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). He, however, is not an accused in the excise scam case. The counsel said the CBI also quizzed AAP's communication in-charge Vijay Nair, who is also lodged in Tihar Jail in connection with the excise policy-money laundering case. Nair was earlier granted bail in the excise scam. The ED, had in its supplementary charge sheet, stated that the investigation done under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) so far has revealed
The Delhi High Court on Monday sought response of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on the bail pleas of two accused in a money laundering case in which Delhi minister Satyendar Jain is also facing prosecution. Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma issued notice to the ED and asked it to file its reply on the bail applications of Vaibhav Jain and Ankush Jain. The high court listed the two bail pleas on December 20, along with Satyendar Jain's bail application. The two accused have challenged a trial court's November 17 order by which their bail pleas were dismissed on grounds that they "knowingly" assisted Jain in concealing the proceeds of crime and were "prima facie guilty" of money laundering. The trial court had also dismissed the bail plea of Satyendar Jain, saying he was prima facie involved in concealing the proceeds of crime. It had said "prima facie" Jain was "actually involved in concealing the proceeds of crime by giving cash to Kolkata-based entry operators and thereafter, bringi
The Delhi High Court on Thursday sought a response from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on jailed AAP Minister Satyendar Jain's bail plea in the money laundering case.
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain to approach the trial court to challenge the proceedings against him in a criminal defamation complaint filed by Delhi BJP leader Chhail Bihari Goswami. Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma allowed the AAP leader to withdraw his plea challenging the orders by a magisterial court here and granted him liberty to approach the trial court by way of a revision petition instead of approaching the high court. "File a revision petition. Why to lose one forum? the judge said. Senior advocate Rebecca John, appearing for Jain, said the petitioner filed the plea because no case was made out to proceed against him as his alleged statements do not fulfil the ingredients to constitute the offence of defamation. Goswami had filed a defamation complaint against Jain and several other AAP leaders, claiming the accused had levelled defamatory remarks against him in connection with funds of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC). Gos
A Delhi court on Saturday said AAP minister Satyendar Jain was prime facie being given "preferential treatment" inside Tihar jail in violation of rules, which has now been stopped. Special judge Vikas Dhull made the observation while dismissing Jain's plea, which sought direction to Tihar officials to provide him special food items according to his religious beliefs. The court noted that fruits and vegetables were being provided to Jain by the jail staff, without there being any order of DG Prison or any authority, which was in violation of the rules. "Providing fruits and vegetables to the applicant was in violation of Article 14 of the Constitution of India as State is bound to treat all the prisoners equally and there can be no discrimination on the basis of caste, creed, sex, religion, status etc. "The Article provides for Equality before Law, which basically means that all persons should be treated equally no matter whether they are poor or rich, male or female, upper caste or
A Delhi court on Saturday dismissed a plea by jailed AAP minister Satyendar Jain seeking direction to Tihar officials to provide him special food items according to his religious beliefs. Special judge Vikas Dhull dismissed the application noting the jail administration's submission that no special facility is provided to any prisoner and Jain was allowed to avail all facilities under law, like other inmates. The application had also sought a direction to the prison officials to immediately conduct the minister's medical check-up. It had alleged that Jain was not being provided basic food and medical facilities inside the prison. The jail administration, however, had opposed the application, saying Jain was allowed to avail all facilities under law, like other prisoners. Jain was arrested in a money laundering case based on a CBI FIR lodged against him in 2017 under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The court had on November 17 refused bail to Jain and two others in the case. He
Jailed Aam Aadmi Party minister Satyendar Kumar Jain on Thursday told a Delhi court that "we're not a country where we are told how to follow a religion". Jain made the submission during the hearing of his application, in which he has alleged that the Tihar jail administration had stopped giving him the food allowed "as per law" during his religious fast. *He was arrested in a money laundering case by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) based on a CBI FIR lodged against him in 2017 under the Prevention of Corruption Act.* "At least right now we're not a country where we are told how to follow a religion. State is nobody to tell how to follow. My religion is my religion," Jain's counsel Rahul Mehra told Special Judge Vikas Dhull while reading the relevant rules on fast on religious beliefs inside jails. During the arguments, Mehra also accused authorities of being "petty". "State should be large hearted not petty. They can provide the four nuts that are prescribed and fruits and ...
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday termed the continuance of Aam Aadmi Party's jailed leader Satyendar Jain as a minister in the Delhi government as "shamelessness" and said such instances are unprecedented in public life. Videos of Jain have emerged purportedly showing him eating uncooked vegetables and fruits, getting massages and other special facilities in his Tihar prison cell. "I had also gone to jail and resigned as a minister. Later, we fought before the court and the court said it was a political conspiracy and the case is fake. If there is injustice with you, then approach law/court. You can't act such shamelessly," the home minister said at an event here. When asked about Jain receiving special treatment at Tihar, Shah suggested that it should be posed to the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party to respond whether or not the video was genuine. "If the video is genuine, the accountability lies on them (AAP). They have to respond that to their jailed minister, even .
Amid a row over videos purportedly showing Delhi minister Satyendar Jain getting "massages" in his prison cell, a former law officer of Tihar Jail has claimed that such "illegal" practices were "normal" there and he knew of sexual favours being arranged for influential inmates during his tenure. Speaking to PTI, Sunil Gupta, who served as a law officer and spokesperson in Tihar from 1981 to 2016, claimed the "high and mighty people" used to get all kinds of favours and "special treatment" within the prison premises from officials as well as inmates in the country's largest jail. Action was also taken in some cases after he reported them, Gupta said without elaborating. Tihar is in the eye of a storm for alleged VIP treatment to influential prisoners after videos emerged in the public domain on November 19 showing Jain, who has been arrested on money laundering charges, getting massages from some inmates, one of whom was later identified as a POCSO accused. Various reports have ...
