Indian women's national football team coach Maymol Rocky on Monday said that the 3-0 victory over Indonesia in a friendly match is very well-deserved."We dominated the match from the first whistle and in the end, the 3-0 scoreline does justice to our performance. Despite not finding the net, we continued with our attacking intent in the second half and got our due reward for it," the coach said. However, Rocky insisted that the team now has its focus on the next match and is looking to pick up their fourth win on the trot. "It was a good performance but it is in the past. Our entire attention is on Wednesday's match and we will continue to work hard and aim to clinch a victory."At full-time, the scoreline read 3-0 in favour of the Blue Tigresses as Ratanbala Devi's second-half hat-trick ensured victory over Indonesia on January 27."Playing in the Indian jersey is always a huge honour but the ...

Penalty controversy as Japan stun Iran in Asian semis

Japan benefited from a controversial penalty as they sent favourites Iran crashing 3-0 in the Asian Cup semi-finals to move within one win of a record-extending fifth title on Monday. Yuya Osako put Japan 1-0 up after half-time but it was his penalty shortly afterwards, awarded following a video review, that knocked the stuffing out of Iran. Takumi Minamino's cross hit Morteza Pouraliganji's arm as he slid in, but Australian referee Chris Beath blew for the spot-kick and stood by his decision after watching a replay. Osako stroked home the spot kick to give Japan a 2-0 lead with 23 minutes to play, and there was no coming back for Iran whose 43-year wait for a fourth Asian title goes on. Genki Haraguchi then scored in stoppage time to complete a rout which had been wholly unexpected after Japan's unimpressive performances previously in the competition. Carlos Queiroz's Iranian side scored 12 unanswered goals on the way to the last four but they lacked ideas against a calm Japanese ...

Both the sides needed a win from this tie but lacked the creativity to break the defence, as play was confined to the midfield in the major part of the first half. FC Goa had a couple of close chances early on but a Jackichand cross from the right went abegging as there was no one to connect. Minutes later, Eduardo Bedia attempted a header from a cross by Brandon Fernandes but it went straight to the rival keeper. Jamshedpur FC, who had beaten Gaurs 4-1 at home, too found difficult to ...

Solskjaer looking to the future no matter what Man Utd decide

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits he is loving life as Manchester United's caretaker manager and is already making plans for next season, even though the Norwegian still does not know if he will remain in charge. The 45-year-old has made a record-breaking start in charge at Old Trafford, becoming the first boss to begin his United career with eight straight victories. That has led to a growing clamour from supporters for Solskjaer to be confirmed as manager on a permanent basis, despite United still being linked strongly with Tottenham's Mauricio Pochettino. Victory away at Pochettino's Spurs and Arsenal in the FA Cup on Friday have dismissed suggestions early in Solskjaer's run that he had just benefitted from a kind run of fixtures. "I love it," said Solskjaer ahead of Burnley's visit to Old Trafford on Tuesday. "It's what you want, we've had some fantastic results, great performances. "And the improvement I can see in many aspects, just from Tottenham to Arsenal; the way we improved the .
