The domestic two-wheeler industry is expected to witness a double-digit revenue growth next fiscal with demand for premium models anticipated to gain further momentum, according to Hero MotoCorp CEO Niranjan Gupta. The country's largest two-wheeler maker, which reported a total income of Rs 10,031 crore in the October-December quarter this fiscal, also expects the entry level segment to do better going ahead. "As far as the demand is concerned, as we have been saying, we do expect the industry to grow double digit on revenue in the coming year at the least," Gupta said in an analyst call. He noted that in the domestic two-wheeler space there is a shift taking place towards premiumisation with buyers looking for feature-rich trims. Gupta stated that the entry level bike vertical, which has seen muted sales over the last few years, is also on a recovery path. TVS Motor reported a 23 per cent increase in vehicle sales to to 339,513 units in January. The company had recorded total sales of 275,115 units in January last year, TVS Motor said in a statement. Sale of two-wheelers registered a growth of 25 per cent with sales increasing from 264,710 units in January 2023 to 329,937 units in January 2024. Of this, domestic sales spiked 24 per cent to 268,233 units in the previous month, it said. In the two-wheeler segment, motorcycle volumes were up 29 per cent to 1,55,611 units from 1,21,042 units in January last year, it said. The scooter segment registered a growth of 24 per cent with sales increasing from 106,537 units in January 2023 to 132,290 units in January 2024, the company said. Domestic passenger vehicle wholesales grew by 4 per cent to 2,86,390 units last month, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers said on Friday. As per the latest data issued by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), dispatches of passenger vehicles (PVs) from manufacturers to dealers were 2,75,352 units in December 2022. Two-wheeler domestic wholesales stood at 12,11,966 units last month as against 10,45,052 units in December 2022, a growth of 16 per cent. Similarly, three-wheeler wholesales were higher at 50,537 units last month as compared to 38,693 units in December 2022.

The company enjoys the number two position in the premium motorbike segment in India, which is growing at 10 per cent at present, he said. Two-wheeler retail sales are expected to increase by just 4-7 per cent in volume terms in the domestic market this fiscal year despite logging strong growth in the festive period, according to a report. The festive season this year saw robust growth in two-wheeler retails aided by the upcoming wedding season and some recovery in rural demand, which supported sales growth in the entry-level (110 cc) segment, the report by rating firm Icra stated. The dealer inventory remained at near normal levels, with the OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) wary of a build-up in inventory at the dealerships, it added. "The industry is expected to record a moderate growth in volumes in FY 2024 (4-7 per cent) even as export volumes remain impacted by weak demand," Icra said.
