Mumbai: strict security around counting centers

Police will maintain strict security around three counting centers in Mumbai Thursday with the help of Central forces, officials said. Counting of votes for six parliamentary constituencies in the city will be held at NESCO Complex in Goregaon, Udayanchal School in Vikhroli and New Sewree Warehouse in Sewree East. Strict security arrangements have been put in place in other parts of Maharashtra too for the counting day, a senior state police official said. Counting will begin at 8 am. As many as 1,500 police officers and personnel will guard the three counting centers in Mumbai alongwith the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Reserve Police Force, Quick Response Teams (QRT) and Riot Control Police, said a city police spokesperson. There would be adequate police deployment all over the city to maintain law and order, he said. Assam Rifles and Coast Guard personnel to train together

In a first, the Assam Rifles (AR) would be training together with the Indian Coast Guard to enhance inter-forces cooperation and interoperability.The charter of affiliation, in this regard, was signed by the Director General (DG) of the Indian Coast Guard, Rajendra Singh and DG, Assam Rifles Lt Gen Sukhdeep Sangwan on Wednesday."It is a permanent affiliation of Assam Rifles with the Coast Guards. Besides building camaraderie, the training will involve the exchange of information and personnel of the two Forces. Indian Army launches search operations to nab killers of Arunachal MLA

The Indian Army has launched a massive search operation in the jungles of Tirap, Longding, and Changlang districts to nab the killers of National People's Party (NPP) MLA Tirong Aboh and ten others near Khonsa in Arunachal Pradesh's Tirap district on Tuesday, sources said here on Wednesday.According to Army sources, all the likely routes of escape have been effectively blocked. Two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were neutralised in the encounter and huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession, the police said on Wednesday."Two terrorists identified as Zahid Mantoo of Shopian and Irfan Ahmad Bhat of Kulgam were neutralised in the encounter. Nigerian bandits kill at least 20: police

Bandit gunmen have killed at least 20 people in separate attacks in northwestern Nigeria, police said Wednesday, the latest violence in the restive region of Katsina. Armed bandits on motorcycles stormed into a farming village on Tuesday, spraying the people with gunfire, Katsina state police spokesman Gambo Isah said. "They killed 18," Isah said. That attack happened on at Yargamji village in Batsari district, some 50 kilometres (30 miles) from the state capital Katsina. A self-defence militia from another village then chased the bandits, ending in a gun battle in the forest. Police said the bodies of two militia members shot dead were brought back and buried from that fight, but residents said more people were killed. Massive military crackdown against militants in Arunachal: Rijiju

Union minister Kiren Rijiju Wednesday said security forces in Arunachal Pradesh have launched a massive operation against the insurgents who killed an MLA and 10 others in the state. Car bomb kills two in Mogadishu: security official

A car bomb exploded near a checkpoint in Somalia capital Mogadishu on Wednesday, killing at least two people and wounding 12 others, officials said. The bombing was claimed by Islamist militant group Al-Shabaab, which said in a statement it had targeted a convoy escorting officials and lawmakers heading to the presidential palace. The Jammu and Kashmir Police has installed CCTV cameras at 10 exit and entry points in the border town of Rajouri, an official said Wednesday. The locations selected for installation of CCTV cameras were finalised by a team of police officials to monitor movement and activities of anti-social elements, he said. A massive combing operation has been launched by security forces to trace the suspected NSCN militants who gunned down MLA Tirong Aboh and 10 others near Khonsa in Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday, an official said on Wednesday. The Army, the Assam Rifles and the state police have launched the operation to nab the perpetrators involved in the crime, Tirap Deputy Commissioner P N Thungon said. Sri Lanka: MP to be grilled over links with terror group NTJ
