Delhi govt to launch premium bus aggregator service to encourage people: CM

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday announced the Delhi government will introduce a premium bus aggregator scheme to encourage the upper middle class to switch to public transport. Addressing a press conference here, he said the scheme will be notified following Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) V K Saxena's approval. "When the metro started in Delhi, there were many people who stopped using scooters and started using the metro. But when the metro trains started getting crowded, they again went back to using their own vehicles. People from the lower middle class and economy classes travel in buses but with this scheme, people from the upper middle class will also opt for public transport," Kejriwal said. Under this scheme, he said, the aggregators who take licenses will have to ply air-conditioned buses with not less than nine seats. Delhi govt asks depts to ensure time-bound disposal of pending complaints

The Delhi government has asked its departments to ensure time-bound disposal of nearly 25,000 pending complaints, officials said on Thursday. The Administrative Reforms Department (ADR) of the Delhi government has also directed that the complainants must be satisfied with the resolution. The pending complaints totalling 24,550 up to September 2023 are related to four central government agencies and 23 departments of the Delhi government, said a senior official. A larger number of complaints from the public, 1.16 lakh, were disposed of but the feedback received was "unsatisfactory", he said. An overhauled public grievance monitoring system (PGMS) comprising an online portal -- Janta Samvad -- was put in place by the Delhi government in 2015 for receiving and redressing public complaints against various services rendered by its different departments and agencies. The majority of the complaints were related to the Delhi Police, Delhi Development Authority, Delhi Jal Board, Transport

Minor's sexual assault: Bail denied to children of suspended Delhi officer

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday refused to grant anticipatory bail to the daughter and son of suspended Delhi government officer Premoday Khakha in a case of alleged sexual assault of a minor girl by the arrested official. I have dismissed application at this stage, said Justice Saurabh Banerjee. The official's son and daughter, accused of abetting the crime, had approached the high court last week seeking pre-arrest bail in the case after they failed to secure the relief from trial court. Khakha has allegedly raped a minor girl several times between November 2020 and January 2021, and is presently in judicial custody. The minor was the daughter of a person known to the accused, the police had said. His wife Seema Rani, who is accused of giving the girl medicine to terminate her pregnancy, is also in judicial custody. The couple was arrested after the survivor recorded her statement before a magistrate at a hospital. A case has been registered under provisions of the POCSO Act

The plea was mentioned for urgent hearing before a bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Sanjeev Narula which agreed to list it on Wednesday. Chadha's counsel submitted that the Member of Parliament has been served with a notice and eviction proceedings are going on. She said earlier there was a stay from the trial court but now it has been removed. The trial court in an October 5 order has said that Chadha cannot claim that he has an absolute right to continue to occupy the government bungalow during his entire tenure as a Rajya Sabha MP even after the cancellation of allotment. The trial court had made the observation while vacating an interim order passed on April 18 that had directed the Rajya Sabha Secretariat not to ...

Delhi govt collects excise revenue of over Rs 3,500 crore in H1FY24

The Delhi government's excise department has earned a revenue of more than Rs 3,500 crore with a sale of 27.6 crore liquor bottles in the first half of the current financial year, officials said on Wednesday. The revenue figure came amid a controversy over alleged irregularities in the now-scrapped excise policy for 2021-22. According to official data, the Delhi government earned a revenue of Rs 3,588 crore in April-September 2023-24. The revenue from liquor trade included Rs 2,457 crore as excise duty and Rs 1,131 crore as value added tax (VAT) on the sale of 27.6 crore liquor bottles during the period. The April-September period last year was marred by scrapping of the excise policy 2021-22 by the Delhi government after a CBI probe was recommended by Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena into alleged irregularities in its implementation. The retail liquor sale was badly hit with the private vendors surrendering licences and shortage of stocks due to the turmoil caused by the CBI probe,
