Bangladesh's pace sensation Nahid Rana confident for India Test series

Having made an instant impact with his brilliant performance in the historic 2-0 triumph over Pakistan, Bangladesh rising speedster Nahid Rana has now set his eyes on the upcoming away Test series against India. The 21-year-old consistently hit 150 kph and stood out as the star performer especially in the second innings of the final Test in Rawalpindi where he took 4/44 as Bangladesh secured a historic sweep. "Obviously we are well prepared for India series. We have started training. The more we are prepared the better we will be in execution during the matches," Rana said in a video shared by Bangladesh Cricket in 'X', formerly twitter. "India are a good team but the team that plays better cricket will win. We will see when we go there." The speedster, from Chapainawabganj, has emerged as a new sensation in Bangladesh cricket with his ability to bowl consistently fast over long spells. He made headlines by crossing the 150 kph mark on his Test debut against Sri Lanka in March thi

Rishabh Pant returns as India announce squad for 1st Test against B'desh

Rishabh Pant on Sunday returned to the Test side after nearly 20 months as India announced their 16-man squad for the opening match of the two-Test series against Bangladesh starting on September 19. Virat Kohli also made a comeback having missed the five-Test series against England at home earlier this year for having taken a break for the birth of his second child. While fast bowler Mohammed Shami remains on a comeback trail and was not included in the squad, uncapped left-arm Uttar Pradesh fast bowler Yash Dayal received his maiden Test call-up. India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who was last seen in national colours during the T20 World Cup, returned to the squad and he is expected to play a couple of more Tests against New Zealand in October-November, before the team flies out to Australia for a five-Test series. Bumrah is perhaps the only player apart from Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma to have been given freedom to choose as per the workload requirement and how his body ..

Historic win over Pakistan will make people in Bangladesh happy: Shanto

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto believed his team's first Test cricket series win over Pakistan will give his compatriots reason to smile amid ongoing difficulties. The recent civil unrest that toppled Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina caused Bangladesh to be stripped of the ICC Women's Twenty20 World Cup, and in the past week the country has been hit by deadly flash floods that have affected millions of people. For the last 1 1/2 months, everyone (in Bangladesh) has struggled a lot, Shanto said after Bangladesh beat Pakistan by six wickets in the second Test here on Tuesday. Bangladesh clinched the series 2-0. We all know cricket is a very emotional thing in our country, so I hope they will get some smiles because we've won the series. Bangladesh followed an epic 10-wicket victory in the first Test at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium with a comeback win in the second Test on the same ground. Bangladesh was 26-6 in their first innings but Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz batted the

Javed Miandad slams Pakistan cricket team after 0-2 loss against Bangladesh

Pakistan cricket reached its lowest ebb on Tuesday while nosediving to a six-wicket defeat against Bangladesh in the second Test here, and the stalwarts termed the 0-2 series defeat as hurting. It was Pakistan's sixth defeat in their last 10 Tests at home and this was also the first time Bangladesh have beaten their neighbours in a Test and series. It is hurting that our cricket has come to this stage. Bangladesh deserve credit for their disciplined performances. But the way our batting has collapsed in this series is a bad sign, former Test captain Javed Miandad said. The second Test saw the Bangladesh batters dominate the second innings after Pakistan dropped pacers Shaheen Shah Afridi from the eleven and rested Naseem Shah. Pakistan had Bangladesh reeling on 26 for 6 in their first innings before centurion Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz produced a spectacular partnership to rescue their side. Miandad felt that the players have lost confidence because of the bickering in the

Rain delays Bangladesh's clean sweep over Pakistan in Test series

Rain halted Bangladesh's bid for a clean sweep against Pakistan after young pace bowlers Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana rattled the hosts for 172 on Day 4 in the second test on Monday. Bangladesh had scampered to 42-0 in seven overs before bad light, followed by rain, allowed only one over of play in the final session on Day 4. The tourists will be needing another 143 runs for a rare test series win away from home. Bangladesh has won just one bilateral test series outside home beating the West Indies in 2009 but won the first test by 10 wickets for its first ever test victory against Pakistan in 14 matches. The 24-year-old Mahmud grabbed 5-43 for his maiden five-wicket haul in only his second test match while 21-year-old Rana chipped in with 4-44 as Pakistan was bowled out half an hour before tea for an overall lead of 184. I should give credit to all my team members who work hard every time, Mahmud said. We're very happy to win the first game and now have a chance to get another on

Pacers Shahzad, Hamza help Pakistan take lead over Bangladesh in 2nd Test

Pakistan fast bowler Khurram Shahzad took three wickets in five balls and left Bangladesh tottering at 75-6 on Day 3 of the second and final test on Sunday. Bangladesh, which registered a historic 10-wicket win in the first test, still needs 49 runs to avoid the follow-on as Pakistan's inexperienced pacers exploited lively conditions on a green-top wicket before lunch. Shahzad (4-15) capped the session for Pakistan when he had Shakib Al Hasan leg before wicket while Mir Hamza took 2-29 after he replaced Naseem Shah in the playing XI for the second test. All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who took five wickets in the first innings, was batting on 33 and Litton Das was not out on 13 as both batters survived for over an hour before lunch with an unbeaten 49-run stand. Mehidy showed aggression in the latter half of the session and smashed seven boundaries, and Das survived after he required treatment after Shahzad's short ball struck him on the rib-cage. Bangladesh's top-order stumbled .

Pak skipper defends controversial selection call after 1st Test defeat

Pakistan captain Shan Masood on Sunday defended the decision to select four pace bowlers and no specialist spinner for the first Test, which the hosts lost to Bangladesh by 10 wickets. It was Pakistan's first ever defeat against Bangladesh in a Test. Masood, who failed with the bat in both innings, refused to admit that it was a bad call to go in without a specialist spinner even after Shakib ul Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz shared seven wickets on the final day to bowl out Pakistan for just 146 runs. We had anticipated the pitch to offer more assistance to the seamers. Looking at the pitch, we expected it to do more, he said at the post match conference. If we played 3 fast bowlers, we would be pushing them to the limit and the spinner would be bowling 25-30 overs a day, which we wanted to avoid. "We thought that with the weather, it may not even last the full 5 days. At the end of the day, we got it wrong, he said. Shan also said that the decision to declare the first innings on

PAK vs BAN: First-ever Test win over Pakistan was a special one - Shanto

Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hasan Shanto on Sunday described his team's first-ever Test win over Pakistan as a "special one" in the given circumstances the country is going through. "It was a very important win for us because last month we had a difficult situation in Bangladesh. There are still some problems there but in Bangladesh we support each other and I am happy this win gives them a little bit of a smile on their faces," he said at the post-match conference after the 10-wicket win. "We are happy with our performance and we just want to give more joy to our people in the second match as well. It was a special victory for us especially given how we adjusted to the hot conditions and pitch here," Shanto added. Shanto said they were confident of winning the match coming into the final day as the pitch was becoming difficult and his team had some experienced spinners and good seamers. "I think Shakib and Miraz bowled very well today given the conditions and we knew that with a 90-

Former ODI skipper Faruque Ahmed takes charge as new BCB President

Former cricketer and chief selector Faruque Ahmed has replaced Nazmul Hasan Papon as the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) after the incumbent resigned in the wake of the political unrest in the country. The BCB held an emergency meeting on Wednesday during which the 58-year-old Ahmed was elected. Papon, who was in his fourth term, has been in London with his wife following the political unrest in the country which began with a huge student protest against quotas in jobs. The Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League regime was toppled as a result and there has been widespread violence despite an interim government taking charge. Papon was an Awami League MP since 2009. He, along with 16 other directors, left Dhaka on August 5. "I resigned as a selector in the past because I opposed the system. Now, I aim to create a system that can run the board smoothly," Faruque was quoted as saying by 'Cricbuzz' on Wednesday. Faruque played seven ODIs for Bangladesh between 1988 and 19

BAN look to Shakib for 'something special' against pace-heavy PAK

Bangladesh is pinning its hopes on all-rounder and former lawmaker Shakib Al Hasan to "do something special against pace-heavy Pakistan in the opening test of the two-match series, starting Wednesday. (Shakib) played this game for so long, so he knows his role, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto said on the eve of the first test match at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. He knows how to prepare himself, so I am not thinking about his political career and I hope he will do something special in this series. He's a professional cricketer and we all treat him as a cricketer, to be very honest. Bangladesh's most accomplished all-rounder, spin great Shakib was playing in the T20 league in Canada during political turmoil in his country back home. The unrest hampered preparations and Bangladesh flew to Pakistan four days ahead of schedule to get an additional three days of training in Lahore. Rawalpindi will host both the test matches. The series is part of the World Test Championship in

IND vs BAN: Gwalior to host India's 1st T20 vs Bangladesh on Oct 6

Gwalior will host the opening T20 International between India and Bangladesh scheduled on October 6 instead of Dharamsala, where renovation work is being carried out by the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association, the BCCI stated on Tuesday. "The first T20I between India and Bangladesh, initially set to be held in Dharamsala on 6th October 2024, will now take place in Gwalior owing to upgrades and renovation work being carried out by the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association in the dressing rooms," the BCCI stated in a media release. The match in Gwalior marks the inaugural international fixture at the city's new stadium - Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium - and the first since the historic India-South Africa ODI in 2010, where the legendary Sachin Tendulkar became the first male cricketer to score a double century in ODIs. The BCCI also agreed to a swap the venues of the first and second T20Is against England in January next year. Chennai, originally scheduled to host the fi
