Kargil will create an atmosphere against BJP, says NC ahead of results

The National Conference and the BJP on Saturday expressed confidence of a good performance in the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council-Kargil (LAHDC) elections, a day before the announcement of its results. The election to 26 seats of the 30-member hill council was held earlier this week. Four councillors with voting rights are nominated by the administration. It was the first poll in Kargil after the abrogation of Article 370 and the creation of the Union Territory of Ladakh in August 2019. The NC and the Congress had announced a pre-poll alliance, but put up 17 and 22 candidates respectively. Both parties said the arrangement had been restricted to areas where there was a tough contest with the BJP. The BJP, which won one seat in the last election and later took its tally to three with the joining of two PDP councillors, fielded 17 candidates this time. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) tried its luck from four seats, while 25 independents were also in the fray. The NC, which hea

INDIA bloc a challenge, BJP doesn't take elections casually: Pradhan

The opposition INDIA bloc is a challenge, Union Minister and senior BJP leader Dharmendra Pradhan said on Friday, adding he has requested his party to allow him to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from his home state Odisha. In an interview with PTI, Pradhan, who is a Rajya Sabha member, said the BJP doesn't take any elections casually and the party's agenda is to ensure that Prime Minister Narendra Modi gets to serve the nation for a third term. Asked about whether the INDIA bloc is a real challenge, Pradhan said, "I consider this as a challenge." "The BJP and the NDA do not take any election casually. From ground workers to top leaders, everybody takes each election very seriously and the prime minister leads us from the front, provides a report card of his work, appeals to the people, and exposes the misleading statements and double standards of the opposition. "Some people make alliances out of fear, arrogance or selfishness. They form alliances without principles. Our ...

'Red diary conspiracy' hatched at BJP headquarters: Rajasthan CM Gehlot

Launching a scathing attack on the BJP, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday alleged that the "red diary conspiracy" was hatched at the saffron party's headquarters. He also claimed that the BJP has no moral right to be in power as it "toppled" elected governments. "The 'lal diary' conspiracy, which has got fused, was hatched at the BJP headquarters," he said. The 'red diary' was allegedly possessed by sacked minister Rajendra Gudha, who had claimed that it contained financial transactions of the chief minister. Gehlot sacked Gudha in July after he criticised his own government in the assembly over crimes against women when the violence in BJP-run Manipur was being discussed. The Rajasthan chief minister also alleged that Amit Shah, Dharmendra Pradhan and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat had conspired to topple his government, apparently referring to the 2020 political crisis stemming from the rebellion of Sachin Pilot and 18 other Congress MLAs. What's point of women's quota Bill if not implemented immediately: Priyanka

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday said the BJP-led Union government was treating women as a "joke" as the newly enacted legislation which reserves seats for them in legislatures can not be implemented for ten years. Speaking at a rally at Mohankheda in Dhar district of poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, she asked why the government brought in the bill at this stage if the quota could not be put into effect immediately. The BJP-led Union government brought in the women's reservation bill.... all of us Opposition parties also supported it.Then we learnt that it will not be implemented for ten years, before that the census will be conducted. Then what was the point of this announcement?.....You are treating women as a joke," Gandhi said. The government will have to carry out the delimitation exercise before implementing the new Act (which reserves 33 per cent seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislatures), and this will take ten years, the Congress leader .
