SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Singapore Airlines Ltd on Thursday reported a 27 percent fall in third-quarter net profit but beat expectations as revenue growth helped offset higher fuel costs.

IOC, BPCL shares fall up to 4.2%

Shares of state-owned oil marketing companies - IOC and BPCL - fell up to 4.2 per cent Thursday amid fresh concerns about rising crude oil prices. Shares of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd fell by 4.19 per cent to close at Rs 124.65 on the BSE. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited also dropped 4.12 per cent to close at Rs 315.10. Shares of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd closed at Rs 220.50, a gain of 0.73 per cent. Intra-day, it fell by 2.46 per cent to Rs 213.50. Brent crude oil futures zoomed 1.26 per cent, to USD 64.41 per barrel. "On the indices front, BSE oil and gas was the top loser as crude prices are seeing some upswing," said Umesh Mehta, Head of Research, Samco Securities Ltd.

Sensex settles 158 down at 35,876, Nifty below 10,800 mark

Benchmark indices continued their downtrend on Thursday with energy stocks taking a beating after crude oil prices started rising in global markets.At closing bell, the BSE Sensex was down 158 points at 35,876 while the Nifty 50 was down 48 points at 10,746.Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, GAIL, Hindalco and Bharti Airtel were among major losers.The gainers included Yes Bank, Indiabulls Housing, Zee Entertainment, JSW Steel and Tata Motors.Yes Bank closed over 20 per cent at Rs 205.55 after the Reserve Bank of India cleared it of any divergences in bad loan reporting practices.Asian stock markets remained cautious as investors were unsure about any progress in the latest US-China tariff talks amid reports that the White House could extend the deadline for a deal.
