A private bus on its way to Varanasi from Delhi rammed into a truck on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, killing seven passengers and injuring 34 others, police said Sunday. The accident took place on Saturday night when the bus, carrying 41 passengers, was going to Varanasi. Superintendent of Police Ajay Shanker Rai said the driver of the bus was among those injured. The identity of the deceased and the injured persons is being ascertained, he added.
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Saturday said that it is planning to review control systems of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft following dozens of complaints filed by the company's employees regarding production issues.The company, in a statement, said that it will include experts from nine civil aviation authorities."The Joint Authorities Technical Review (JATR) will conduct a comprehensive review of the certification of the aircraft's automated flight control system, including its design and pilots' interaction with the system, to determine its compliance with all applicable regulations and to identify future enhancements that might be needed," the statement said.The review is set to begin on April 29 and is expected to continue for an estimated period of 90 days, the FAA announced.The decision comes after The New York Times on Friday reviewed "hundreds of pages of internal emails, corporate documents and federal records, as well as interviews with more than a dozen current .
At least seven people were killed and 34 others were injured after a bus rammed into a truck on Agra-Lucknow Expressway in the wee hours of Sunday, a police official said."This was a Volvo bus travelling from Delhi to Banaras. The bus rammed into a trolley, which was moving ahead of it, at the 78th milestone near Mainpuri. In the accident, two staff members and five passengers have died," Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Om Prakash Singh said.The injured were shifted to the hospital, while police have sent the bodies of deceased for postmortem.There were two Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) among those injured in the accident.Last month, on March 29, eight people had lost their lives, while 30 others sustained injuries after a bus they were travelling in, collided with a truck on the Yamuna Expressway.

Three children drowned Saturday after their boat capsized in Bori river in Naldurg in Osmanabad district, over 400 kilometres from here, police said. The children, along with several relatives, had come for a picnic to the area when the incident happened at around 9am, an official said. "While they were boating, the boat capsized. Several occupants swam to safety. However, three children, identified as Almas Jagirdar (9), Sania Kazi (8) and Ijaz Kazi (5) drowned," he said.
An 18-year-old youth died and two of his friends sustained injuries in a road accident in outer Delhi on Saturday morning, police said. The deceased was identified as Himanshu (18), the injured as Sahib (21) and Jayant (18), they said, adding that the other vehicle involved in the accident has not yet been identified. Forty passengers were injured when four buses rammed one behind the other on the Ulundurpet bypass road about 100 km from here Saturday, police said. Two buses from Alangulam and Tirunelveli proceeding to Chennai, while the other two buses were from Kodaikanal and Uthankudi, the police said. The bus from Alangulam rammed into the one from Tirunelveli while overtaking. The other two buses closely following them also rear-ended with them, they said. The 40 passengers travelling on the buses from Uthankudi and Kodaikanal were injured and the two buses suffered heavy damage, they added. Police rescued the passengers and sent them to a hospital.
Three houses and seven shops were gutted in a devastating fire in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir but there was no report of any loss of life, officials said Saturday. The fire broke out in one of the structures at Dadpeth village Friday night and immediately engulfed the nearby buildings, the official said. The fire and emergency services personnel managed to put off the blaze after several hours of operation, they said, adding the cause of the fire was not known immediately. Kishtwar Deputy Commissioner Angrez Singh Rana visited the affected village Saturday and handed over an immediate relief of Rs 5,000, blankets, kitchen kit, bucket and solar lights to each of the affected families, out of Red Cross fund. At least 36 persons were injured Saturday when a passenger bus turned turtle in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. The bus was on way to Udhampur from Khorgli and the accident occurred near Damnote-Panchari when its driver lost control over the vehicle, a police official said. He said the injured were rushed to a nearby Public Health Centre for treatment.
A German army plane has evacuated 12 German tourists who survived this week's bus accident on the island of Madeira that claimed 29 lives, Portuguese authorities said Saturday. The regional health authorities for Madeira said the patients were taken on board the German military plane at the Cristiano Ronaldo international airport. A fire broke out in the basement of a building in Karol Bagh's Gaffar Market here on Saturday.The blaze reportedly broke out in two mobile repair shops, which were operating from the basement of the building.The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. An oil production unit located in an industrial area in Sinnar near here suffered severe damages in a major fire early Satuday, police said. No loss of life was reported in the incident that took place around 3 am, they said. "The security guard posted there noticed the blaze and informed the company owners and other authorities about it. A major tragedy was averted as the incident happened in the wee hours, when there were no employees in the unit," police said. Five fire tenders were pressed into service and the blaze was brought under control, they said. The plant, located around 35 kms from Nashik city, is engaged in producing oil from discarded tyres. According to police, short circuit is suspected to be the reason behind the blaze.

A fire broke out in two mobile repairing shops in Karol Bagh's Gaffar Market on Saturday, fire officials said. According to the officials, they received information about the fire at around 11.50 pm following which five fire tenders were rushed to the spot. It was found that two mobile repairing shops which were operating from a basement had caught fire.
