A major fire broke out at a chemical plant located in Dombivli MIDC in the district on Saturday morning, officials said. No loss of life has been reported so far and eight fire engines were engaged in the task of dousing the flames, the officials said. "The blaze started around 6.55 am in the chemical plant situated behind the Manpada police station in Dombivli MIDC," Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) chief Santosh Kadam said. An officer from Manpada police station said, "Eight fire engines have been deployed to bring the blaze under control. However, even at 10 am, it was still raging and the fire fighters were struggling to douse the flames." Te cause of the blaze was yet to be ascertained, fire brigade sources said. Thick black smoke from the fire has engulfed the area surrounding the plant.

A global team of experts next week will begin reviewing how the Boeing 737 Max's flight control system was approved by the US Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA says experts from nine international civil aviation authorities have confirmed participation in a technical review promised by the agency. Twelve coaches of the Howrah-New Delhi Poorva Express derailed near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh early on Saturday, injuring at least 14 people, railway officials said. The train was going to New Delhi when the incident occurred near Rooma railway station -- about 20 km from here -- in Kanpur Nagar district around 12.50 am. Four out of the 12 derailed Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches have overturned, North Central Railway public relations officer Amit Malviya said. Fourteen people were injured and three of them were admitted to a hospital. Three people were killed and one more was injured Friday when their autorickshaw overturned after the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a divider at a high speed in southeast Delhi's New Friends Colony, police said. Ashok (18), Devraj (23) and Ram Singh (40) died of injuries sustained in the accident, while Amar Singh (25) was undergoing treatment, officials said, adding that all victims were residents of the Nehru Nagar area in south Delhi. Amar Singh informed police that all four of them worked at a catering house and were returning home from Jaitpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast) Chinmoy Biswal said. He alleged that the autorickshaw was going at a very fast speed and the driver lost control of the three-wheeler as he tried to clean the windscreen while driving and hit a divider, the DCP said. The driver, identified as Vijender, was later apprehended, police said, adding that a case has been registered.
A gang, whose members were allegedly involved in making fraudulent insurance claims in the name of patients who died of cancer by showing them as road accident, was busted by the Special Task Force (STF) of the Haryana Police Friday. Three persons identified as Pawan Bhoria, Mohit and Vikas have been arrested in this connection, a police spokesman said in a release here. Divulging modus operandi, he said the accused first used to identify cancer patients and contact their family members. Subsequently, they got the cancer patients insured and after showing their deaths in road accidents, they would help get the insurance claims after lodging FIRs at different police stations in Haryana, he said. Immediately after this, treatment record of the deceased person was removed by them from PGIMS Rohtak.
