Russia ready to help France with Notre Dame fire investigation

Major fire at chemical plant in Dombivli MIDC
A major fire broke out at a chemical plant located in Dombivli MIDC in the district on Saturday morning, officials said. No loss of life has been reported so far and eight fire engines were engaged in the task of dousing the flames, the officials said. "The blaze started around 6.55 am in the chemical plant situated behind the Manpada police station in Dombivli MIDC," Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) chief Santosh Kadam said. An officer from Manpada police station said, "Eight fire engines have been deployed to bring the blaze under control. However, even at 10 am, it was still raging and the fire fighters were struggling to douse the flames." Te cause of the blaze was yet to be ascertained, fire brigade sources said. Thick black smoke from the fire has engulfed the area surrounding the plant.
Storms in South kill girl in Florida, bring tornado threat
A strong storm system barreling through the South on Friday killed an 8-year-old girl in Florida and threatened to bring tornadoes to large parts of the Carolinas and southern Virginia. A tree fell onto a house in Woodville, Florida, south of Tallahassee, killing the girl and injuring a 12-year-old boy, according to the Leon County Sheriff's Office. The office said in a statement that the girl died at a hospital while the boy suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Their names weren't immediately released. The same storm system was blamed for the deaths a day earlier of three people in Mississippi and a woman in Alabama. Panel to review approval of Boeing 737 Max flight controls
A global team of experts next week will begin reviewing how the Boeing 737 Max's flight control system was approved by the US Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA says experts from nine international civil aviation authorities have confirmed participation in a technical review promised by the agency. Former National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Chris Hart will lead the group, which also will have experts from the FAA and NASA. They will look at the plane's automated system including the way it interacts with pilots. The group will meet Tuesday and is expected to finish in 90 days. The Boeing jetliner has been grounded around the world since mid-March after two crashes killed 346 people. Two elephants died in an accident after getting hit by a train at Jamalpur Kalan area in the Haridwar forest range early on Friday.Both the pachyderms were found 20-25 meters away from the track. According to a forest official, they were thrown away by the impact of the collision."Both are male tuskers and both died due to the impact of the collision with the train. The incident took place at around 4 in the morning. We are preparing for the post-mortem of both the elephants," said a forest official.The officials are investigating the details of the incident.

The report released by the the UN labour agency International Labour Organization (ILO) said in 1984, at least 30 tons of methyl isocyanate gas, which was released from the Union Carbide pesticide plant in the Madhya Pradesh capital, affected more than 600,000 workers and nearby inhabitants. "The Government figures estimate that there have been 15,000 deaths as a result of the disaster over the years. Twelve coaches of the Howrah-New Delhi Poorva Express derailed near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh early on Saturday, injuring at least 14 people, railway officials said. The train was going to New Delhi when the incident occurred near Rooma railway station -- about 20 km from here -- in Kanpur Nagar district around 12.50 am. Four out of the 12 derailed Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches have overturned, North Central Railway public relations officer Amit Malviya said. Fourteen people were injured and three of them were admitted to a hospital. The coaches that derailed are: S8, S9, B1-B5, A1, A2, HA1, pantry car and an SLR (seating cum luggage rake), according to a railway statement. The district magistrate, senior superintendent of police and other senior officials reached the spot and supervised the rescue operation, the officials said. 3 killed as autorickshaw overturns after hitting divider in southeast Delhi
Three people were killed and one more was injured Friday when their autorickshaw overturned after the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a divider at a high speed in southeast Delhi's New Friends Colony, police said. Ashok (18), Devraj (23) and Ram Singh (40) died of injuries sustained in the accident, while Amar Singh (25) was undergoing treatment, officials said, adding that all victims were residents of the Nehru Nagar area in south Delhi. Amar Singh informed police that all four of them worked at a catering house and were returning home from Jaitpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast) Chinmoy Biswal said. He alleged that the autorickshaw was going at a very fast speed and the driver lost control of the three-wheeler as he tried to clean the windscreen while driving and hit a divider, the DCP said. The driver, identified as Vijender, was later apprehended, police said, adding that a case has been registered.
Gang involved in making bogus insurance claims busted in Haryana
A gang, whose members were allegedly involved in making fraudulent insurance claims in the name of patients who died of cancer by showing them as road accident, was busted by the Special Task Force (STF) of the Haryana Police Friday. Three persons identified as Pawan Bhoria, Mohit and Vikas have been arrested in this connection, a police spokesman said in a release here. Divulging modus operandi, he said the accused first used to identify cancer patients and contact their family members. Subsequently, they got the cancer patients insured and after showing their deaths in road accidents, they would help get the insurance claims after lodging FIRs at different police stations in Haryana, he said. Immediately after this, treatment record of the deceased person was removed by them from PGIMS Rohtak. In this, government employees like doctors, police personnel and of PGIMS Rohtak could be involved, the spokesman said. Director General of Police (Crime) P K Agrawal had received a complaint .
2 pilgrims fatally knocked down by truck
: Two pilgrims were killed after a truck hit them near here Friday, police said. Arun (30) and Rajender (31) were proceeding to have darshan of Lord Hanuman at Kondagattu when the accident occurred, the police said. The two, who were seriously injured, belong to Bhupalapatnam in Choppadandi mandal, they said. The two died on the way to hospital. A search is on for the lorry driver, police said.
