Wall collapse in Shanghai leaves 10 dead
Chinese officials on Friday announced that at least 10 people lost their lives after a factory's wall collapsed here on Thursday.Quoting the municipal bureau of emergency management, Xinhua reported that 25 people were pulled out from the rubble. Out of them, 10 people breathed their last at the hospital while receiving treatment.The wall fell while the factory was being demolished on Thursday morning in Shanghai's Changning District.The reason behind the accident is still being investigated.
USA: F16 crashes into warehouse at California military base
An F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jet crashed into a warehouse at the March Air Reserve Base in Riverside County here on Thursday.The pilot ejected before the plane crashed and is being medically evaluated, according to Riverside County Sheriff's Department.Quoting local media reports, Sputnik said that first responders requested "full hazardous materials response" as the multirole fighter jet was loaded with ordnance.It is unclear whether the pilot sustained any injuries or if there was a co-pilot. 'Weight and balance' errors caused deadly Cuba air crash
A plane crash that killed 112 people in Cuba a year ago was caused by an error by the crew in its calculation of the aircraft's weight and balance, a government investigation commission said. "The most likely causes of the accident were the crew's actions and its mistakes in calculating the weight and balance, which led to the loss of control and collapse of the aircraft during takeoff," the commission said, according to a report by Cuba's Civil Aeronautics Institute. Two months after the May 2018 crash, the Mexican company that owned the Boeing 737-200 jet said a team of international experts had found that the pilot's takeoff was too steep. 4 killed after small plane crashes near Dubai airport
Four people - three Britons and one South African - lost their lives after a plane carrying them crashed three miles to the south of Dubai International Airport here on Thursday evening due to a technical malfunction."The four-seater plane crashed while on a mission to calibrate terrestrial navigation systems at the airport," an official statement issued by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) announced.The four-seater has since been identified as a diamond 43 owned by the conglomerate Honeywell and registered in the UK, according to the Dubai Media office.Honeywell, in a later statement, denied that it owned the plane while condoling the incident."We are deeply saddened by today's plane crash in Dubai, and our heartfelt condolences are with the victims' families. The plane was not owned or operated by Honeywell but by a third party engaged by Honeywell. We are waiting for more details," the statement read.An investigation team from the GCAA arrived at the site of the incident.
Boeing says 737 MAX software update is complete
Boeing said Thursday that it completed its software update on the 737 MAX after two deadly crashes resulted in a global grounding of the aircraft. The proposed fix, which addresses a problem with a flight handling system thought to be a factor in both crashes, must now win approval from US and international regulators before the planes can return to service. "With safety as our clear priority, we have completed all of the engineering test flights for the software update and are preparing for the final certification flight," said Chief Executive Dennis Muilenburg said in a statement. "The accidents have only intensified our commitment to our values, including safety, quality and integrity, because we know lives depend on what we do." Power restored in 2,500 households in cyclone-hit Puri
Power supply has been restored in 2,500 households in cyclone-hit Puri and at least another 4,000 will get electricity by Thursday night, District Collector Balwant Singh said. The Odisha government said the relief and restoration work has picked up substantially in other cyclone-hit districts like Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara. "We have already electrified Shree Jagannath Temple, Grand Road in Puri town on Wednesday. Around 2,500 households in the holy town have also been given power," Singh said, adding that another batch of about 4,000 households will get power by Thursday night. "It is like rebuilding the power network in Puri district," a senior official said. Two killed in Dubai plane crash
The pilot and co-pilot of a small plane were killed in a crash Thursday, causing delays at Dubai airport, the emirate's government media office said. "An accident involving a small plane with four passengers occurred resulting in the death of the pilot and his assistant," it said in a statement. The small Diamond Aircraft, owned by US tech giant Honeywell, crashed due to a technical malfunction, it said. "All operations at the Dubai airport are running smoothly after a slight delay and diversion of some flights as a precautionary measure to ensure security," it added. Heavy floods claimed 15 lives Thursday in the Malian capital Bamako along with serious property damage, authorities said. A statement said the flooding claimed a "provisional toll" of 15 dead and two injured. Two Indian-American Sikh youths killed in car accident
Two Indian-American Sikh youths died and another injured after their car hit a tree in Indiana, according to a local media report. The victims were identified as 19-year-old Varundeep S Bring and 22-year-old Davneet S Chahal. Tesla's 'Autopilot' engaged in Florida fatal crash: Report
Tesla's "Autopilot" system was engaged by a driver who was killed in a March crash in Florida, according to an initial accident report released Thursday. Preliminary data showed the Tesla driver engaged "Autopilot" about 10 second before the crash and that the device was active at the time the vehicle was struck by a truck-tractor semitrailer, the National Transportation Safety Board said. The accident, the latest involving Autopilot, left the Tesla driver, a 50-year-old male dead and the combination vehicle driver uninjured. The report did not conclude who was at fault for the crash. Patnaik writes to Rajnath on Fani, seeks relaxation of norms for central assistance
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Thursday wrote to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, seeking relaxation of certain norms for central assistance to restore power in the cyclone-hit Puri district. Patnaik said the power infrastructure in Puri and parts of other coastal districts has been extensively damaged in the cyclone that killed at least 64 people. "...It is requested that the NDRF norms may be relaxed to provide for actual cost of restoration of the entire power infrastructure damaged by the extremely severe cyclonic storm Fani," Patnaik wrote. According to the present NDRF norms for repair of damaged power infrastructure, Patnaik said assistance is given only for damaged conductors, poles and transformers up to the level of 11 KV. Lightning kills one, injures 10 at Rajasthan's Bundi
A woman died and 10 others were injured after being struck by lightning in Bundi district Thursday, police said. The victims were passing through the fields at Ganeshpura village when lightning struck, killing Lad Kanwar (38) and injuring 10 others, said Sadar police station SHO Amar Singh. The injured included children, he said. According to a Meteorological Department official, a slight decrease of 1 to 2 degree Celsius was witnessed due to showers in the eastern and western parts of Rajasthan. Over Rs 4 crore sanctioned for cow shelters in Jaipur
The Jaipur district gopalan committee has sanctioned over Rs 4 crore for 60 cow shelters, said an official here on Thursday. "The committee has sanctioned around 4.05 crore for 60 cow shelters and the Hingonia cow rehabilitation centre,"District Collector Jagrup Singh Yadav said. He said funds were provided to 41 cow shelters in January. "The remaining 19 cow shelters and the Hingonia cow rehabilitation centre will be provided financial assistance soon.
SUV from Bhagwat's convoy overturns in bid to save cow, one
A vehicle that was part of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's convoy overturned in an attempt to save a cow standing in the middle of the road near Warora in Chandrapur district, in which one of his security personnel was injured, police said. Bhagwat, who is a 'Z category' protectee, was traveling from Chandrapur to Nagpur, when the driver of an SUV in his convoy spotted the stationary cow on the road, police said. "The driver tried to avoid the cow and braked hard, which resulted in a tyre burst and the vehicle toppling over," a senior officer said, adding that the cow was unhurt in the incident that took place at 5.15 pm near Warora on the Chandrapur-Nagpur highway. Seven killed in factory wall collapse in China
Seven workers were killed on Thursday when a wall of a factory, which was being demolished, collapsed on them in China's Shanghai province, officials said. The wall collapsed on Zhaohua Road in Changning district, trapping an unspecified number of people at the site, the municipal bureau of emergency management said. So far 21 people have been pulled out of the debris. Of them, seven workers died and the rest have been admitted to hospitals, state-run Xinhua news agency reported. The incident happened when the factory building was being demolished. The accident is under investigation as rescue efforts continue, the report said.

Two persons were charred to death and another was injured after a tractor-trolley they were travelling in caught fire in Rajasthan's Chittorgarh district, police said Thursday. Passengers travelling in the tractor-trolley were going to Chittorgarh from Kapasan when it overturned near Kesarkhedi crossing and caught fire. At least 20 people were injured in an explosion at a private bank on Thursday in Sadiqabad area of Pakistan's Punjab Province, according to a media report. The bank building was completely damaged in the blast and the area has been cordoned off, Geo TV reported. Initial reports suggest that the blast occurred due to a gas cylinder explosion, police said. Security forces have launched a search and rescue operation, while the injured have been shifted to a nearby medical facility for assistance. Eight people were killed and as many injured in four separate road accidents in Rajasthan's Baran, Jhalawar and Chittorgarh districts, police said Thursday.
