Four people - three Britons and one South African - lost their lives after a plane carrying them crashed three miles to the south of Dubai International Airport here on Thursday evening due to a technical malfunction."The four-seater plane crashed while on a mission to calibrate terrestrial navigation systems at the airport," an official statement issued by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) announced.The four-seater has since been identified as a diamond 43 owned by the conglomerate Honeywell and registered in the UK, according to the Dubai Media office.Honeywell, in a later statement, denied that it owned the plane while condoling the incident."We are deeply saddened by today's plane crash in Dubai, and our heartfelt condolences are with the victims' families. Boeing said Thursday that it completed its software update on the 737 MAX after two deadly crashes resulted in a global grounding of the aircraft. Power supply has been restored in 2,500 households in cyclone-hit Puri and at least another 4,000 will get electricity by Thursday night, District Collector Balwant Singh said. The Odisha government said the relief and restoration work has picked up substantially in other cyclone-hit districts like Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara. "We have already electrified Shree Jagannath Temple, Grand Road in Puri town on Wednesday. Around 2,500 households in the holy town have also been given power," Singh said, adding that another batch of about 4,000 households will get power by Thursday night. The pilot and co-pilot of a small plane were killed in a crash Thursday, causing delays at Dubai airport, the emirate's government media office said. "An accident involving a small plane with four passengers occurred resulting in the death of the pilot and his assistant," it said in a statement. The small Diamond Aircraft, owned by US tech giant Honeywell, crashed due to a technical malfunction, it said. Tesla's "Autopilot" system was engaged by a driver who was killed in a March crash in Florida, according to an initial accident report released Thursday. Preliminary data showed the Tesla driver engaged "Autopilot" about 10 second before the crash and that the device was active at the time the vehicle was struck by a truck-tractor semitrailer, the National Transportation Safety Board said. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Thursday wrote to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, seeking relaxation of certain norms for central assistance to restore power in the cyclone-hit Puri district. Patnaik said the power infrastructure in Puri and parts of other coastal districts has been extensively damaged in the cyclone that killed at least 64 people. "...It is requested that the NDRF norms may be relaxed to provide for actual cost of restoration of the entire power infrastructure damaged by the extremely severe cyclonic storm Fani," Patnaik wrote. According to the present NDRF norms for repair of damaged power infrastructure, Patnaik said assistance is given only for damaged conductors, poles and transformers up to the level of 11 KV. A woman died and 10 others were injured after being struck by lightning in Bundi district Thursday, police said. The victims were passing through the fields at Ganeshpura village when lightning struck, killing Lad Kanwar (38) and injuring 10 others, said Sadar police station SHO Amar Singh. The Jaipur district gopalan committee has sanctioned over Rs 4 crore for 60 cow shelters, said an official here on Thursday. A vehicle that was part of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's convoy overturned in an attempt to save a cow standing in the middle of the road near Warora in Chandrapur district, in which one of his security personnel was injured, police said. Bhagwat, who is a 'Z category' protectee, was traveling from Chandrapur to Nagpur, when the driver of an SUV in his convoy spotted the stationary cow on the road, police said. "The driver tried to avoid the cow and braked hard, which resulted in a tyre burst and the vehicle toppling over," a senior officer said, adding that the cow was unhurt in the incident that took place at 5.15 pm near Warora on the Chandrapur-Nagpur highway. Seven workers were killed on Thursday when a wall of a factory, which was being demolished, collapsed on them in China's Shanghai province, officials said. The wall collapsed on Zhaohua Road in Changning district, trapping an unspecified number of people at the site, the municipal bureau of emergency management said. So far 21 people have been pulled out of the debris. Of them, seven workers died and the rest have been admitted to hospitals, state-run Xinhua news agency reported. Two persons were charred to death and another was injured after a tractor-trolley they were travelling in caught fire in Rajasthan's Chittorgarh district, police said Thursday. Passengers travelling in the tractor-trolley were going to Chittorgarh from Kapasan when it overturned near Kesarkhedi crossing and caught fire.
