Fire at apartment in police station compound, one injured

One person was injured when a fire broke out at an apartment in a police station compound in suburban Dadar on Sunday, a police official said. The blaze erupted around 1.45 pm in one of the quarters on third floor of the fire-storey building located in the police station compound, the official at Dadar police station said. Several electrical wirings, installations and household items were gutted in the fire, he said. Four fire engines and an ambulance were rushed to the spot. One person received minor injuries in the incident and he was rushed to a nearby hospital, the official said. Efforts were underway to bring the fire under control, he said, adding that the exact cause of the blaze was yet to ascertained.

Several explosions hit UAE port of Fujairah

Several powerful explosions on Sunday hit the port of Fujairah in UAE following a huge fire that engulfed at least seven oil tankers, state media reported.The blasts were heard between 4 am and 7 am local time (00:00 - 03:00 GMT), the Al-Mayadeen broadcaster reported, adding that from seven to 10 oil tankers were in flames.However, according to local sources, the causes of the incident remains unknown, Sputnik reported.Eyewitnesses reportedly saw several French and the US military planes flying over the port.Further details are awaited.

1 feared dead, 2 injured as two trucks fell into gorges along Jammu-Srinagar highway

One person was feared dead and two others injured in two separate road accidents on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway Sunday, police said. The accidents took place in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district, they said. In both incidents, the truck drivers lost control over the wheels when negotiating blind curves and their vehicles skidded off the road and fell into deep gorges, a police official said. A truck rolled down a hill at Karool near Jaiswal bridge and fell into fast flowing Chenab river. The rescuers saved Umar Amin, a resident of Qazigund, while the search for driver Mohammad Shafi was on, the official said, adding he is suspected to have drowned. In Chanderkote area, a truck plunged into a 200-feet-deep gorge near Kunfer. Its 20-year-old driver, Shahid Ahmad, suffered injuries and was admitted to a hospital, the official said.

Myanmar plane in emergency touchdown as landing gear fails

A Myanmar pilot saved the day after his aircraft's landing gear failed, forcing the jet into an emergency landing with no front wheels on Sunday morning, an official said. The nailbiting touchdown -- in which nobody was injured -- was the second instance of a malfunctioning flight in less than a week within the country. The Myanmar Airlines flight UB-103 -- an Embraer-190 model -- was grounded at around 9 am in Mandalay (0230 GMT), a city popular among foreign tourists, with all 89 people on board including seven crew members, safe. 5.7 magnitude quake jolts New Zealand's Kermadec Islands

An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter Scale rattled New Zealand's Kermadec Islands in the early morning hours on Monday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.The quake hit a depth of 73 km and took place at 4:06 am (local time) or 4:06 pm (UTC time), the agency said.The epicentre of the quake was located south of the Kermadec Islands, according to USGS.There are no reports of any casualties, injuries or damage to property. No tsunami warning has been issued.Situated in the South Pacific Ocean, the Kermadec Islands is located between 800-1,000 km northeast of New Zealand's North Island region.New Zealand lies in the 'Ring of Fire', an area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean, which is vulnerable to frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

Actor Clement von Franckenstein dies at 74

The American President actor Clement Von Franckenstein has died at the age of 74.According to Hollywood Reporter, Franckenstein died of hypoxia at a hospital in Los Angeles.The urbane British actor was born on May 28, 1944, outside London.He played several roles in movies like Lionheart, Death Becomes Her, The Evening Star and Hail, Caesar!.While Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein (1974) was his first movie, Franckenstein also had an uncredited role in Carl Reiner's Fatal Instinct (1993).Thereafter, he portrayed French leader Renee-Jean d'Astier in the comedy-drama The American President in 1995.Franckenstein's parents were killed in a plane crash. He was raised by his parent's friends.He graduated from Eton College and worked as a lieutenant in the Middle East and Germany for three years.Most recently he appeared in Take Me Home Tonight, The Five-Year Engagement and Angels on Tap in 2018.

Delhi: One dead, three injured after roof of welding shop collapses

One person succumbed to injuries, while three were admitted to the hospital after the roof of a welding shop, where they were working, collapsed in Swatantra Nagar here on Saturday.Three persons - Mohamad Mejraj, Juber and Irshad -- were admitted to Maharaja Agrasen Hospital in Narela and are undergoing treatment, while one Sallauddin was declared brought dead to the hospital after the incident, police said.The shop collapsed due to the ongoing construction of a drain near its foundation by the Irrigation and Flood Control Department.Workers of the department were, however, not constructing the drain when the shop collapsed on Saturday.A case has been registered under Section 223 and 2014A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday condoled the deaths in a road accident in Andhra Pradesh. At least 14 people were killed in Andhra Pradesh's Kurnool district when a speeding private bus collided with the jeep they were travelling, police said. Another six passengers in the jeep suffered injuries and were hospitalised, they said. 14 killed in bus-jeep collision

: Fourteen people travelling in a jeep were killed when a speeding private bus collided with the vehicle in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh Saturday, police said. Another six passengers in the ill-fated jeep sustained injuries and have been hospitalised, police said. The victims, all related to each other, were identified as villagers of Ramavaram in Gadwal district of neighbouring Telangana state. Fire in Bhubaneswar-bound Rajdhani Express, none injured

A fire broke out on Saturday in Bhubaneswar-bound Rajdhani Express between Balasore and Soro railway stations of Odisha, official sources said. No casualties were reported in the incident and all passengers of the train are safe, an official said. The fire broke out between 12.50 pm to 1 pm and severely damaged the power car in the rear of the train, but did not spread to any other coach. The official said the smoke was first detected in the power car of the 22812 down Rajdhani Express from New Delhi to Bhubaneswar. This is the only power car which supplies power to the train. Moderate quake jolts Iran's west

An Iranian semi-official news agency is reporting that a 5.1 magnitude earthquake has jolted the western region bordering Iraq. Fars news agency reported Saturday the quake hit Ezgeleh district, which has a population of roughly 30,000 in western Kermanshah province. The US Geological Survey put the quake's magnitude at 5.3 and said it also jolted Halabjah in Iraq, near the Iranian border. The report says the epicenter of the earthquake was eight kilometers (5 miles) deep. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damages. A magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck in November 2018 a nearby area and injured more than 500 people. Iran is prone to frequent quakes as it sits on major fault lines. The death toll in Odisha due to Cyclone Fani mounted to 43 on Saturday, even as people staged a road blockade and assaulted a state official in protest against water shortage and power cuts in the coastal belt ravaged by the severe storm a week ago.
