Kannada, English among subjects to be taught in madrasas: CM Siddaramaiah

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday said Kannada and English along with Maths and science will be taught for two years on an experimental basis in the registered madrasas for two years. "Children studying in waqf properties and registered madrasas run by waqf institutions will be taught continuously for two years in Kannada, English, Science, Mathematics on an experimental basis and other subjects and will be made to write SSLC, PUC and graduation exams through National Open Schools. An order has already been issued in this regard," Siddaramaiah wrote on X. The CM made the announcement sharing the message of Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, according to which, the initiative will be carried out first in 100 madrasas.

Hiring activity for white-collar jobs dips 12% during Oct-Nov: Report

Hiring activity for white-collar jobs witnessed a 12 per cent on-year decline during October-November largely due to fall in recruitment trends in IT-Software, telecom and education sectors, a report said on Thursday. White-collar recruitment during October-November declined by 12 per cent with 2,433 job postings, compared to 2,781 during the corresponding months in 2022, according to the Naukri JobSpeak Index. The Naukri JobSpeak is a monthly Index representing the state of the Indian job market and hiring activity based on new job listings and job-related searches by recruiters on the resume database of Naukri.com. While, telcom, education, retailing sectors witnessed 18 per cent, 17 per cent and 11 per cent decline, respectively, during October-November compared with the same months in 2022, sectors like hospitality, travel, auto and auto ancillary the hiring trend was stagnant, the report said. A Delhi University committee will oversee the review of the School of Open Learning's self-learning material and formulate guidelines for the preparation of future study materials, an official said on Saturday. This comes after repeated issues were flagged in the self-learning material that was presented before the Academic Council. CM rejects allegations of interference in Kannur Univ VC reappointment

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday rejected Governor Arif Mohammed Khan's claims that the government interfered with the re-appointment of Kannur University's Vice Chancellor. On Thursday, the Supreme Court criticised Khan's order reappointing Gopinath Ravindran, stating that the Governor had previously "abdicated or surrendered" his statutory powers for reappointing the VC. The court, while quashing the reappointment, also criticised the Left government for its "unwarranted intervention" in the matter. The Odisha government has decided to provide free online NEET and JEE coaching to class 11 and 12 students of various higher secondary schools in the state. Higher Secondary Education Director Raghuram R Iyer wrote a letter to principals of all government and non-government aided plus-II colleges in this regard on Wednesday. "It has been decided to provide supplementary online coaching to National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)/Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) aspirants pursuing their studies in government and non-government aided higher secondary schools for enhancement of their competitive ability," Iyer said.
