1 dead, 10 injured as tree falls on visitors at Nehru Zoological Park
A person was killed while ten others sustained injuries after a tree fell on them due to heavy rainfall at Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad, police said on Sunday.The government has announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of the deceased.Following the incident, which took place on Saturday evening, the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for first aid. "Yesterday evening at around 4 pm, several trees including neem, tamarind, babul, cassia and gulmohar fell down due to heavy rains and strong winds. It caused extensive damage to the powerlines, parking area and visitor pathways etc," zoo officials said. "Immediate measures were taken by the staff members to rescue the visitors. However, a woman lost her life in the mishap," they added.The deceased has been identified as Nikath Sultana.

A 60-year-old woman died when a the branch of a tree fell on her at the Nehru Zoological Park here Saturday after heavy rains followed by strong winds hit several parts of the city, zoo officials said. Indian woman gives birth to baby at Dubai airport
An Indian woman went into a sudden labour pain and gave birth to a baby at the airport here after a female inspector came to her rescue, a media report said on Saturday. The unidentified woman was at Terminal 2 of the Dubai International airport when she went into throes of labour, the Khaleej Time reported without mentioning the date of the incident. Corporal Hanan Hussein Mohammed, an inspector at Dubai airport, appeared as a saviour for the woman who swiftly swung into action and rushed the pregnant woman to the airport's inspection room, the report said. She helped the woman not only to give birth to the baby but also performed cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the new-born who was not breathing. Hanan called the ambulance and the mother and her baby were taken to city-based Latifa hospital. Hannan was later honoured by Brigadier Ali Atiq Bin Lahej, director of the General Department of Airport Security at Dubai Police, for her noble act, the report said.

Showing exemplary grit, a sugarcane worker and her husband from Maharashtra fended off a leopard which tried to drag their toddler son away in the dead of night. The incident occurred Thursday night in Dholwad village in Junnar taluka of Pune district when the couple and their 18-month-old son were sleeping near a sugarcane field. "While we were sleeping, a leopard grabbed my son Dnyaneshwar at his head, and started dragging him. Sensing the movement, I and my husband woke up and tried to rescue our son," said the toddler's mother Deepali Mali. While Deepali kept holding the legs of her son, her husband Dilip raised an alarm and started hitting the big cat. The animal tried to bite Deepali but she held on, Dilip said.
