Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana trainees not preferred for railway jobs: Vaishnaw

Over 26,000 candidates, who have been skilled till November 2023 under the Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana, will not have any preference in jobs in the Indian Railways, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Rajya Sabha on Friday. Vaishnaw said that this scheme was launched in September 2021, adding 26,791 candidates have completed their training till November 2023. Responding to a question by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Narayana Koragappa whether any preference of above trained youth is given for employment in the railways, he said, No, Sir. This programme is intended to enhance the skill of a person so that he / she can get a job or can start his / her own start-up / entrepreneurship. Rail would need over 30 bn units of power after full electrification: Govt

The railways would require around 30.13 billion units of electricity after 100 per cent electrification of its broad gauge lines, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has informed the Lok Sabha. In a written reply on December 13 to a query by BJP MP Rajesh Chudasama who wanted to know the electrification status, he said the railways is progressively procuring renewable energy from different sources for its present and future requirements. Chudasama also sought to know the expected consumption after 100 per cent electrification and "the manner in which Railways is likely to ensure that the increased electricity demand is met through renewable sources". Railways granted 430 sanctions to prosecute officials since 2014: Vaishnaw

The Indian Railways has granted 430 sanctions to prosecute its officials since 2014, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply on Wednesday. "Since 2014, 430 sanctions have been granted by the Railways to prosecute officials. Presently, two cases of sanctions are under consideration," Vaishnaw said. "In these cases, sanction for prosecution was sought by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Rajasthan. As per the advice of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), these cases have been referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for seeking their recommendation," he added. Vaishnaw was responding to queries by DMK MP AKP Chinraj who wanted to know if any sanctions to prosecute officials received from various investigating agencies have been pending with the Railways for more than three months, as per reports. Over 12,000 train coaches have digital display boards, says Vaishnaw

More than 12,000 newly-manufactured train coaches have digital display boards containing information such as forthcoming station, destination and running status, among others, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said. "Digital display boards containing information like forthcoming station, destination, train running status and other safety information/announcement are provided in coaches of trains like Vande Bharat, Push-Pull, TEJAS, Humsafar etc & Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) and Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) trains," Vaishnaw informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply on December 8. He added, "AC economy coaches and VISTADOME coaches are also provided with a digital display board. Derailed wagons of goods train removed from accident spot near Mumbai

A day after seven wagons of a goods train derailed between Kasara and TGR-3 station near Mumbai on the Central Railway network, the derailed wagons were removed from the accident site, officials said on Monday. Restoration work on the route was underway, Central Railway's chief public relations officer Dr Shivraj Manaspure said. The seven loaded wagons of the goods train derailed between Kasara, nearly 125 km from Mumbai, and TGR-3 station at around 6.30 pm on Sunday, leaving mail express traffic on the Kasara-Igatpuri section on the Down line and middle line affected. "All the derailed wagons have been removed from the accident spot. The movement of remaining wagons back to Kasara yard is going on," Manaspure said. The Down (Igatpuri-bound) main line overhead equipment restoration work was near completion, he said. Namo Bharat RRTS train trial conducted from Delhi's Duhai to Modi Nagar

After commencement of the 17 km priority section of the Regional Rapid Transit System that covers Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut, a trial run of the Namo Bharat train was conducted from Duhai to Modi Nagar South on Sunday. The train departed from Duhai station, reached Murad Nagar station, and then continued to cover the distance of about 12 km to Modi Nagar South. "At present, the Namo Bharat trains are undergoing a trial run to test the track and traction. Initially, the train is being operated manually under the Train Control Management System. The train covered the distance from Muradnagar station to Modi Nagar South at a minimal speed. Later, it was brought back to Duhai while slightly increasing its speed," a statement from the National Capital Region Transport Corporation said. The 25 km-stretch between Duhai and Meerut South RRTS station is the next section of the corridor that will be opened for the public after the priority section. 'All unmanned level crossings on railways' broad gauge track eliminated'

The railways has eliminated all unmanned level crossings on its broad gauge track network, but metre gauge and narrow gauge track sections still have 559 such crossings with Gujarat having the highest at 262, the Lok Sabha was informed on Wednesday. Sharing data on level crossings, both manned and unmanned, in the country in a written reply, Railway Minister Ashwini Vishnaw said that "all unmanned level crossings (UMLCs) on running lines of the broad gauge (BG) network of the Indian Railways have been eliminated by 31.01.2019". "Only 559 UMLCs on metre gauge (MG) and narrow gauge (NG) sections exist on Indian Railways, which are planned for elimination during gauge conversion of sections," he said. Railways gave Rs 59K cr subsidy on passenger tickets in 2019-20: Vaishnaw

The Indian Railways offered a subsidy of Rs 59,837 crore on passenger tickets in 2019-20 and the concession still continues, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Vaishnaw shared the information in response to a question by Congress MP Anto Antony from Kerala regarding restoring pre-Covid concessions for different categories of railway passengers. "The Indian Railways always strives to provide affordable services to all strata of the society and gave a subsidy of Rs 59,837 crore on passenger tickets in 2019-20," the minister said. "This amounts to a concession of 53 per cent on an average to every person travelling on Railways. This subsidy is continuing for all passengers," he said. Kavach, an indigenously developed automatic train protection system, has been deployed in three sections in South Central Railway zone along with 139 locomotives, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Vaishnaw responded to questions raised by two Congress MPs from Kerala - Benny Behanan and Kumbakudi Sudhakaran - on the total number of sections and length under various railway zones that are covered by Kavach. Ram Karan Yadav takes charge as general manager of Central Railway

Senior railway official Ram Karan Yadav has been appointed as the general manager of the Central Railway (CR). Yadav, a 1986 batch Indian Railways Service of Engineers (IRSE) officer, took charge of the office on Friday, the Central Railway stated in a release. Before joining the Central Railway, Yadav was the director general of the Indian Railways Institute of Civil Engineering (IRICEN) Pune. The senior officer has replaced Naresh Lalwani, who retired from the post on Thursday. Yadav graduated in civil engineering with honours from IIT Roorkee in 1985 and joined the Railways in March 1988. He also earned an M.Tech (Soil Mechanics & Foundation Engineering) from IIT Delhi in 1987. Yadav has served in various posts in the Western, North Eastern, Central and Eastern divisions of the Railways apart from working with IRICEN Pune, Rail Indian Technical and Economic Service (RITES) and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
