The PM had felicitated sanitation workers who ensured cleanliness during the Kumbh recently by washing their feet. Commissioner's Task Force of West Zone team on March 4 arrested two recruiting agents on charges of cheating unemployed youth by sending them to Malaysia and carrying the business of recruitment of Indian workers with foreign employers without any permission from the Protector General of Emigration, Ministry of Labour, Government of India.The arrested recruiting agents were Saurabh Kumar Jha and Mohd Ibrahim.Police have seized 15 Indian passports, 76 Malaysian SIM cards, three laptops, eight cell phones and Rs 11,400 in cash and other incriminating material from their possession. Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong Tuesday launched the Pradhan Mantri Shram-Yogi Maandhan (PM-SYM) Pension Scheme, here for workers in the unorganised sector. He urged the people to come forward and avail the benefits that the Central government is providing under the scheme. The PM-SYM is a pension scheme for workers in the unorganised sector whose monthly income is Rs 15,000 or less. To avail the scheme, the beneficiary has to be in the age group of 18-40 years.
Ahead of the general elections, central trade unions Tuesday adopted a 15-point charter of demand, which include minimum monthly pension of Rs 6,000, scrapping fixed term employment, abolishing contract labour system and stopping of PSUs disinvestment. As many as 10 central trade unions adopted the new 15-point charter, retaining its earlier 12-points at a workers convention here, a statement said. According to the statement, the adopted charter of demand will be placed in the electoral process. The Lok Sabha polls are expected to be held in May and announcement in this regard is expected by next week. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said Tuesday the decision to double tax-free gratuity limit to Rs 20 lakh will benefit public and private sector employees. The government in Budget 2019-20 also announced hiking of tax free gratuity to Rs 20 lakh for employees not covered under the Gratuity Act having service of more than five years. "Income Tax Exemption for Gratuity under Section 10(10)(iii) of the Income Tax Act has been enhanced to Rs 20 lakh. Would benefit all PSU employees and other employees not covered by Payment of Gratuity Act," Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said in a tweet. Parliament last year passed Payment of Gratuity (Amendment) Bill, 2018, enabling the government to raise the limit of tax-free gratuity to Rs 20 lakh and to fix the period of maternity leave qualifying as continuous service period through an executive order.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced the implementation of the 7th pay commission recommendation for the employees of all Urban Local Bodies (ULB) retrospectively from April 1, 2016.The Municipal staff will receive the revised salary as per the 7th pay commission with retrospective effect from April 1, 2016, said a release issued by the Odisha Chief Minister's Office (CMO).However, ULB's are required to meet the additional expenses from their own revenue. Earlier, the state government had announced a 3 per cent hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for employees and pensioners which came into effect retrospectively from January 1 this year.

While the OSDA pact with Tata Community Initiative Trust was to scale up the Nano Unicorn programme, the MoU with Cisco entails . Nano Unicorn is a OSDA programme where skilled youths are nurtured to become small entrepreneurs and future employers. Tata Community Initiative Trust will help OSDA to identify the youth with entrepreneurship potential and devise structured training programmes. The Odisha government on Friday allotted above 40 acres of land to seven industrial units with employment potential of 3,200 people, officials said. The lands were allotted at industrial estates such as Sea Food Park Deras and Info-Valley, Khurda, they said. The Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC) has specifically been directed to workout objective standards for assessment of land requirement for different types of electronics and IT companies, an official said. "So far, 28 industrial units have been allotted land in these two estates, having employment potential of 16,315 persons," said Sanjay Kumar Singh, Chief Managing Director of IDCO (Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation). Among the units allotted the land were ITC Ltd, Star GSM, CTEL Infosystems and Odisha Skill Development Authority.
A day after the Supreme Court held that special allowance is part of basic wages for EPF dues computation, retirement fund body EPFO has decided to take a stringent action against those firms which will not take into account such component in PF contributions. The apex court in its judgement has ruled that special allowance is part of the basic wages for computing the employees provident fund (EPF). The employer as well as employee pay 12 per cent of basic wages each towards contribution for social security scheme run by the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). "Following the judgement, the EPFO will take stringent action against firms which would not factor in special allowance for computation of EPF contributions. The body is studying the judgement and would soon come out with a detailed plan to implement the judgement," a source privy to the development said. Twenty employees of Beed District Civil Hospital in Maharashtra have been dismissed from service for submitting fake certificates of being the offspring of freedom fighters in order to get jobs under the reserved category, an official said Friday. The dismissed employees also include women, the official added. The government's dismissal order came after the Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal (MAT) gave its ruling last year, in which it confirmed that the certificates submitted by these 20 employees were bogus. "Twenty employees- seventeen class IV and three class III- were dismissed from service with effect from today (March 1). The government issued their dismissal order on Thursday," district civil surgeon Dr Ashok Thorat said. In 2004, these employees had produced bogus certificates of being sons or daughters of freedom fighters in order to get a job in Beed district hospital, he said.
