Nineteen Bangladeshi nationals were arrested Tuesday at Tirupur for allegedly staying without valid documents and claiming they were from West Bengal, police said. On information that many Bangladeshis were working in knitwear units in and around Tirpur, police raided a company at Sirupuluvapatti. They had come from Bangladesh without proper documents and joined the firm claiming that they hailed from West Bengal, police said. Seeing the police a few other Bangladeshi nationals fled from the area, they added.

The National Human Rights Commission Tuesday sent a notice to the Delhi police chief in connection with a 58-year-old man allegedly jumping to death from the third floor of the Bawana police station building where he was called for questioning. Three persons, including a former militant, were detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district on Tuesday, police said. Khurshid Ahmad Lone, who had surrendered as a militant of the erstwhile Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJI); Tanveer Ahmad Gin, an active overground worker of the Hizbul Mujahideen and allegedly involved in hawala transactions; and a suspected drug peddler, Farooq Ahmad, were detained under the PSA, an officer said. The PSA allows detention without charge or trial for up to two years in some cases. "The detention of the accused under the PSA was thr need of the hour as they were becoming a threat to peaceful atmosphere in the district," the officer said. All the accused have been lodged in the Kathua district jail of Jammu region, the officer added.
The Rajasthan government Tuesday issued an order for appointment of the Alwar gangrape case victim as a police constable. The woman, a Dalit, was allegedly raped by five men in Thanagaji area of Alwar on April 26 in front of her husband. "The order to appoint the victim as a police constable has been issued. She will soon get the appointment letter," Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Rajeeva Swarup told PTI. A critically ill boy died after he was allegedly refused an ambulance by the state-run district hospital here. A probe by the city magistrate has found the hospital guilty of lapses in the death of the child on Sunday night. Afroz, 9, was brought to the district hospital in Shahjahanpur with complaints of high fever and was referred to Lucknow for specialised treatment. His parents said they had approached the hospital for an ambulance to ferry Afroz to the state capital, but the authorities did not agree to their request. Afroz's mother said they had given him some medicines for fever but his condition worsened, and they got him admitted at the Shahjahanpur district hospital. "The doctors told us to go somewhere else, saying there were no facilities available in this hospital," she said. A BSP leader and his nephew were shot dead by three assailants here on Tuesday, police said. The incident took place at around 2.30 pm when BSP leader Haji Ahsan (55) and his nephew Shadab (28) were sitting in their office, Circle Officer Najibabad Mahesh Kumar said. "One of the three assailants waited outside the office, while two moved in with a pistol hidden in a sweet box. A 26-year-old woman, who was allegedly tortured and gang-raped last week, on Tuesday demanded justice and speedy arrest of the accused, including a doctor and a police constable. Addressing a press conference here, the woman accused the police of not providing protection to her even after being directed by a court following her complaint of rape against suspended constable Kapil Sharma last year. She had accused Sharma and four others of raping her and dumping her in a naked and an unconscious condition on the outskirts of Jaipur last Tuesday night. The woman alleged that she was taken to a hospital nearly a hour after the police reached the spot. The 26-year-old alleged that Sharma was not arrested even after her complaint last year. An architect cannot restrain the owner of a building he has designed from demolishing it, the Delhi High Court ruled on Tuesday, while dismissing a plea for recreating the demolished Hall of Nations and the Nehru Pavilion at a separate location here. The ruling by the court came while dismissing a suit filed by the architect of the buildings, which were located at Pragati Maidan here and were demolished to re-develop the area, seeking directions to the Indian Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) to recreate them as compensation. Fourteen of the 26 people charged with forcibly tonsuring the heads of nine men and trimming the nails of seven women in Jharkhand's Seraikela- Kharsawan district have been arrested, police said Tuesday. A Delhi court will pronounce on June 1 its order on whether to grant bail to Sushen Mohan Gupta, an alleged defence agent arrested in the money laundering case related to the AgustaWestland VVIP choppers scam. Special Judge Arvind Kumar reserved order after hearing arguments from the accused as well as the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Senior advocate Siddhartha Luthra, appearing for Gupta, said the accused had always cooperated with the investigation and will be available as and when required by the probe agency as he has deep roots in India. The Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed a plea moved by a UAE-based businessman challenging a supplementary chargesheet filed against him by the NIA in a terror-funding case. A bench of justices Manmohan and Sangita Dhingra Sehgal said it was of the considered view that the trial court's order taking cognisance of the supplementary chargesheet was "within the realm of law and does not warrant any interference". Three motorcycle-borne men opened fire at police personnel in Karnal Tuesday and managed to free from custody a convict they were transporting from a court, officials said. The daring daylight raid took place when the police party was transporting the convict to Yamunanagar from Karnal after a hearing. Two policemen were injured in the attack, they said. Sunil (23), alias Kheera, a resident of Panipat, is a convict in a dacoity case and was undergoing trial in five other cases of heinous crimes, an official spokesperson said here.
