A youth died after allegedly being attacked by a rowdy-sheeter here two days ago, police said Saturday. Three youths, who were returning from a birthday party in the early hours of June 13, found the rowdy-sheeter with a woman at Necklace Road at Hussain Sagar lake, they said. The youths saw the rowdy-sheeter and went near him and the latter abused them, they said. The youths moved away from the place but came back and asked the rowdy as to why he abused them. It was he who was doing a wrong thing, they pointed out, according to police. They had an argument and the rowdy-sheeter allegedly hit one of the youths on the head and face with a granite stone, police said adding the two others escaped. The victim, Soumya Pushpakaran,was posted as the Civil Police Officer (COP) at Vallikkunnam stationhere. According to police, the accused, identified as Ajas, a policeman attached to the Aluva traffic station, allegedly followed the woman in a car when she was on her way back home after work in the evening. He knocked her two-wheeler down and allegedly hacked her with a sharp weapon and as she tried to seek refuge at a nearby house, chased, poured petrol over her and set her ablaze, police, quoting eyewitnesses, said. A 25-year-old man charged with having unnatural sex with a minor boy died Saturday after jumping off a court building in Dindoshi in suburban Malad when he was brought for a hearing, police said. Vikas Pawar was arrested in 2015 by Powai police under section 377 (unnatural sex) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor boy, an official said. "He was brought on Saturday to Dindoshi court which is conducting trial in the case. When he reached the designated court, he pushed the police guard accompanying him and leapt off the sixth floor of the building. He died instantly," the official said.
A pastor was arrested Saturday for allegedly molesting a 14-year-old girl student of his school in Anantapuramu district of Andhra Pradesh,police said. A case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and SCs and STs (Prevention of Atrocities) Act has been registered against him, a release from the DGP's office here said. He has been remanded in judicial custody till June 28 and lodged in the Anantapuramu jail, according to the release. A 30-year-old man on the run after allegedly killing a Thane woman over three years ago was Friday held from Kurla in Mumbai, a senior police official said. Imtiaz Nannhe Khan is accused of strangling Khushbu Sachin Mishra (27) on March 20, 2016, Senior Inspector Madhukar Kad of Mumbra police station said. A 25-year-old youth was seriously injured when the bomb he was carrying to attack a village sarpanch went off in Ganjam district, police said Saturday. Two men who were accompanying Shyam Sundar Patra alias Cheru, the injured person, fled after the explosion at Chanchadapalli under Digapahandi police station limits on Friday night. Patra suffered serious injuries in one of his palms and he was admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here, police said. Sub-divisional police officer of Chikiti, SN Murmu, said Patra and his associates were on their way to attack the sarapanch of Banthapalli gram panchayat Prasant Kumar Swain because of some enmity. A case was registered at Digaphandi police station basing on the complaints lodged by the sarapanch, Additional SP (Berhampur) Prabhat Chandra Routray said. A 16-year-old boy was apprehended Saturday in connection with the killing of a property dealer in West Delhi's Vikaspuri earlier in the week, police said. Amit Kochar, the 35-year-old property dealer, was shot dead on Thursday for allegedly refusing to pay money demanded by the assailants, they said. The Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau Saturday filed a case against Nashik Zilla Parishad health officer Dr Vijay Nathuji Dekate for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 10,000, an official said. The complainant had approached ACB on May 21 this year and the case was registered at Bhadrakali police station only after a thorough probe, he said. A booking clerk of Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) was arrested Saturday in Udaipur for allegedly taking a bribe of around Rs 8,000 on behalf of his manager, an anti-corruption bureau (ACB) official said. The accused manager Chandra Prakash Kacharia had demanded Rs 10,000 from complainant Rohit Menaria after the latter failed to relocate a shop allotted in his wife's name at Udaipur bus stand, ACB inspector Hanwant Singh Sodha said. The accused fixed the deal at Rs 8,600 after negotiation. The booking clerk Hiralal Lohar took Rs 3,000 from Menaria on the manager's directions and asked the victim to pay the remaining amount on Saturday, he said. The clerk was arrested Saturday and a search is on for the absconding manager, Sodha said. Both the accused have been booked under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, the official added.
Five persons, including a woman, have been booked for allegedly blackmailing a man by threatening to file a rape case against him, Palghar police said Saturday. The victim was in a relationship with a woman who demanded money between January 23 and 29 this year, threatening to make a rape allegation in case he failed to give the amount, an official said. "The accused demanded Rs 1.50 lakh. The victim paid Rs 50,000 by cheque but was unable to arrange the remaining amount, leading to the woman and her accomplices telling him that they would kidnap and kill his children if he didn't pay Rs 5 lakh," he said. He said a case was registered against them at Virar police station for extortion but no arrests had been made so far.
A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped and killed by her father's acquaintance here following which he was arrested on Saturday, police said. On Friday, Vinod Rai, 55, saw the girl and her 12-year-old sister playing in their house, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sunil Gupta said. He told them that their father was calling them and the older girl sent her sister with him, Gupta said. On Friday night, the Sikriganj Police was informed via the Dial-100 helpline that the girl had been abducted by Rai on a motorcycle, the official said. Five persons were arrested and stolen property worth lakhs of rupees recovered on Saturday after a gang of burglars was busted here in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. Srinagar SSP Haseeb Mughal told reporters here that a complaint was received at Safakadal Police Station regarding a burglary at a godown in Baghinand Singh wherein burglars looted goods worth lakhs of rupees. A woman and her paramour have been arrested for allegedly hiring killers for Rs 7,000 to murder her husband at the couple's accommodation in South Avenue here, police said Saturday. A juvenile has also been held for the murder of 52-year-old Suresh Kumar whose throat was slit when he was alone at his home on June 7.
