A Delhi Court extended interim protection granted to Manoj Arora, a close aide of Robert Vadra, till February 16 in an alleged money laundering case filed against him.Arora's interim protection was to end today. On January 11, the Patiala House Court had granted interim protection from arrest to Arora. It had also ordered Arora to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and join the investigation.The ED had moved the Delhi Court seeking issuance of an open-ended non-bailable warrant against Arora.In its plea, the ED claimed that Arora arranged funds for Vadra's undeclared assets overseas. It further alleged that proceeds of the crime were used to channelise funds from the United Arab Emirates.The ED had also sought a red corner notice against Arora to prevent him from fleeing India.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued notice to advocate Prashant Bhushan in connection with a contempt plea filed by Attorney General (AG) K K Venugopal and the Centre.In their plea, Venugopal and the Centre said that Bhushan, in his tweets, claimed that the AG and the government have "willfully and deliberately" mislead the court by producing fabricated documents and gave false statements in a case challenging the appointment of then interim CBI chief M Nageshwar Rao.Venugopal told a bench comprising justices Arun Mishra and Naveen Sinha that Bhushan's claims bear negative implications on him as the AG, arguing that Bhushan should not have gone public with his remarks."He (Bhushan) is going public in a pending matter. The Delhi High Court Wednesday refused to stay the trial court order to frame charges against former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Virbhadra Singh for allegedly amassing disproportionate assets (DA) worth over Rs 10 crore. Justice Sunil Gaur also sought CBI's response on pleas of Singh and his wife Pratibha challenging the trial court order to frame charges against him. "Let the charges be framed in the trial court. I am not going to pass any interim order," the judge said and posted the matter for April 16. The 82-year-old Congress leader and his wife have sought quashing of the December 10, 2018 trial court order directing framing of charges against them and seven others in the case lodged by CBI. Authorities say a school bus driver was wounded in a shooting that followed a crash with another vehicle on a snowy interstate near downtown Minneapolis. Minneapolis Public Schools said in a statement that one student was on the small bus Tuesday afternoon and was not hurt. Police spokesman John Elder says the driver's injuries were not life-threatening. Officers quickly took one suspect into custody. Police say the man was arrested for second-degree assault but has not been formally charged. They say the elementary school student was sitting in the back of the bus at the time and has been reunited with family members. Police say 911 calls came in about the crash. They say additional calls described a male outside of a car pointing a gun at a school bus, and that subsequent callers said shots were being fired.
The CBI is finalising the dates for interrogating Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar in its Shillong office as per the Supreme Court's order, a senior officer of the investigating agency said on Wednesday. "We are finalising the dates on which we are going to question him. It could be this weekend," the officer told PTI. According to sources in the central agency, Kumar is understood to have written to its officials stating his availability for questioning at its Shillong office this weekend. The apex court had on Tuesday issued a notice to Kumar on a contempt plea filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam. A local court Wednesday held seven men guilty of killing two youths in Kawal village in an attack which is said to have triggered the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots that led to killings of over 60 people. Additional District and Sessions Judge Himashu Bhatnagar convicted Muzammil, Mujassim, Furkan, Nadeem, Janangir, Afzal and Ikbal for killing Gaurav and Sachin on August 27, 2013 and rioting, said district prosecution counsel Rajiv Sharma. The court will pronounce the quantum of their sentences Friday. According to the First Information Report, the two youths of Kawal village under Jansath police station area were battered to death by the five of thee men. The National Green Tribunal Wednesday directed the North Delhi Municipal Corporation to keep a constant vigil on the encroachments in Azadpur here and seek the help of police in removing squatters. A bench headed by Justice Raghuvendra S Rathore said removal of unauthorised occupants on the road was a continuous exercise and asked the Delhi police to render due assistance to the corporation as and when needed. A class 8 student was allegedly abducted and raped by three youths in Deoria district, police said Wednesday. The minor was abducted from her home on Monday night when she was sleeping with her siblings and later taken to a nearby agriculture field and raped by the youths, Superintendent of Police (SP) N Kolanchi said. Based on a complaint lodged by the girl's mother, an FIR was registered against the three youths, the SP said, adding that two of the three accused were taken into custody.

Naga Jhansi's bother found her hanging from the ceiling fan after he forcibly opened door when she did not respond to the doorbell Tuesday night, a police official said. "We were told that she had a boyfriend who apparently started neglecting her of late. We are inquiring into it. Her brother found her dead on Tuesday night at around 8.30," Punjagutta police inspector B Mohan Kumar said. The deceased hailed from Krishna district and had acted in several TV serials and a few movies. Jhansi became popular with the serial "Pavitra Bandham." The CBI and the Maharashtra CID told the Bombay High Court on Wednesday that they would file their supplementary charge sheets in the killings of rationalists Narendra Dabholkar and Govind Pansare by next week. The CBI and the state CID are probing the killings of Dabholkar and Pansare, respectively. CBI counsel Anil Singh told the bench that it had arrested and identified Sachin Andure and Sharad Kalaskar as the two persons who shot at Dabholkar, leading to his death. Singh said the CBI will file the supplementary charge sheet against the two by February 13. Ashok Mundargi, the counsel for CID's Special Investigation Team (SIT) that is probing Pansare's killing, also told the court that the agency was going to file its supplementary charge sheet against three more persons arrested in the case by February 12. Three persons, including two women, were arrested and 378 grams of heroin were seized from their possession here, police said on Wednesday. Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested a married couple and a woman and seized 378 grams of the contraband substance and Rs 30,900 in cash from a settlement in the Downdale area here on Tuesday evening, Shimla Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Pramod Shukla said. The accused couple -- Pooja and Dharmu -- belonged to Punjab's Ropar district while the other woman, Seema, was from the Downdale area here, he added. A case was registered against the three accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and further investigation was on, Shukla said.
A Nepali national was arrested for allegedly carrying 39 grams of morphine by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) near Indo-Nepal border in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh.The accused identified as 32-year-old Lal Bahadur Sonar, a resident of Banke district in Nepal. was arrested on Wednesday from Rupaidiha area, with morphine worth Rs. 39 lakh in the international market according to SSB.The accused along with the seized drug was handed over to Rupaidiha police station and a case registered against him.
