Railway engineer arrested while taking bribe in Rajasthan

An engineer of the North Central Railway was caught red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 85,000 from a contractor here Tuesday, police said. The accused, Rakesh Kumar Meena, senior section engineer at the Eidgah Agra station (Uttar Pradesh), had demanded the bribe from the contractor for clearing bills against works done by his firm, they said. Meena had also assured complainant Chandrashekhar that he will not face any problem in the future, officials said. "After verification of the complaint, the accused engineer was trapped at the firm's office in Bharatpur. He has been arrested," Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ashok Chauhan of the Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau said.

Mohammad Yusuf murder: Arrest warrants issued against 6 accused

Siwan Court on Wednesday issued an arrest warrant against six individuals accused of murdering Mohammad Yusuf, nephew of former RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin.Yusuf was shot at on Friday night, after which he was rushed to the hospital. 2 held on charge of murdering NRI bizman in AP; ACP in

A 55-year old NRI businessman found dead in a parked car on a highway in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh last week was murdered and two people arrested Tuesday for alleged involvement in the crime, police said. Kerala PWD minister summoned by court to appear on March 29

A court here Tuesday summoned Kerala PWD minister G Sudhakaran to appear before it on March 29 on a complaint filed by his former personal staff member alleging that he had insulted her. The first class magistrate court at Ambalapuzha issued an order in this regard on a complaint filed by Usha Sali, a former personal staff of Sudhakaran. The court admitted the petition and issued the direction summoning the minister. According to the complainant, Sudhakaran had allegedly insulted her and her family while speaking at a public function in Ambalapuzha on February 28, 2016. Sudhakaran was an MLA then. The complaint was filed under IPC section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of woman).

Plane passenger with gold bars held at Tiruchy airport

Gold bars worth Rs 41.67 lakh were seized from a passenger who landed at the airport here from Kuala Lumpur early Tuesday, air intelligence unit officialssaid. The gold, weighing 1.25 kg, was concealed in the inner lining of his bag and was detected during the routine check, the officials said. The name of the passenger was given as Johny Joseph who has been detained for interrogation in connection with the seizure of the precious metal, they added.

Man held for publishing fake 2019 Lok Sabha polls schedule on website

A 21-year-old man was arrested for allegedly publishing fake news about the 2019 general elections schedule on his website from a WhatsApp group in January, police said Tuesday. The accused was identified as Gomunt Kumar, a resident of Jharkhand. He was pursing his graduation in B.Sc from Ranchi, they said. The arrest was made on January 31 after police received a complaint from the office of Chief Electoral Officer regarding fake news about the upcoming Lok Sabha polls schedule that was circulated on various online and social media platforms, Anyesh Roy, Deputy commissioner of police (cyber cell) said. A case was registered on January 18 and an investigation taken up, he said. Maha: Jewellery store staff held for false gold robbery claim

A jewellery store employee was Tuesday arrested for falsely claiming that he had been robbed while transporting gold and silver in Maharashtra's Jalna district, a senior police official said. Punjaapa Dukandar claimed that he had been robbed by unidentified persons who snatched his bag containing 100 grams of gold and 2.51 kilogrammes of silver, cumulatively valued at Rs 4.61 lakh, Additional Superintendent of Police Samadhan Pawar said. He was given the gold and silver biscuits by his employer Shashikant Bodke, who owns a jewellery store in Jintur in neighbouring Parbhani, over 130 kilometres from here, to hand over to another jeweller in Jalna, the Additional SP said. Man gets 10-yr imprisonment for raping minor

The Ghaziabad district court Tuesday sentenced a man to 10 years of imprisonment for raping a four-year-old girl in 2015 here. Special judge (POCSO) and additional session's judge 8th Vandana Singh also slapped a fine of Rs 15,000 on the convict. Special government council (POCSO) Ranvir singh Dagar said that on January 1, 2015, Rahul, a Tronica city resident, raped the four-year-old "daughter of a man who had provided them a room to stay on humanitarian grounds as their house was under construction". According to the complaint lodged by the girl's father, Rahul raped her on the terrace of the house. The girl had suffered genital injuries and was admitted to hospital. Rahul's blood-stained shirt was recovered from the spot. He was sent to jail under sections of rape and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act.

2009 petroleum deal case: Robert Vadra to appear before ED tomorrow

Businessman Robert Vadra will join Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation in the 2009 petroleum deal case on Wednesday.The Patiala House Court had granted interim bail to Vadra on Saturday till February 16 in connection with a money laundering case against him. During the course of the hearing, the ED had told the court that they had learnt about more overseas properties related to Vadra and hence, said he should join the probe. Raj: Man beaten to death by woman's family over love affair

A man was beaten to death allegedly by the family members of a woman with whom he was in a relationship in Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar district, police said Tuesday. Harjeet Singh, aged around 30 years, and the woman were having an affair for some time, they said. The woman's family members, who objected to their relationship, caught Singh near Bidi village under the Rawla police station area, tied him to a tree and beat him up Monday night, police said. Singh was rescued by police after they were informed by locals and admitted to a hospital where he was discharged after treatment. However, his condition deteriorated in the morning and he died while being taken to the hospital, police said. An FIR has been lodged against the Woman's father Nanak Singh and her relatives Shrawan Singh and Surmukh Singh, police said. They have been detained, police added. Harjeet's body was handed over to family members after post-mortem.

12-year-old boy's body found under flyover in Ghaziabad

The body of a 12-year-old boy, who had gone missing for a day after being scolded over studies by her mother, was found on Tuesday under a flyover here, police said. The body of the boy, a student of class 3, was found lying in a pool of blood under the flyover of new bus stand Tuesday morning, they said. Police are yet ascertain if it is a case of suicide or someone killed the boy and then threw his body off the flyover. Maha illegal abortion racket busted, 9, including 4 docs, held

Nine persons, including four doctors, have been arrested for operating a racket in which female foetuses were aborted illegally in Maharashtra's Aurangabad district, police said Tuesday. An official said the racket was underway for several years in the MIDC, CIDCO and Osmanpura areas of the district. One of the doctors who has been arrested, identified as Varsha Rajout, is a government medical officer, he added. Body of missing GCF officer found

Nearly two weeks after a junior works manager (JWM) of the city-based Gun Carriage Factory (GCF) went missing, his body was found on Tuesday in the bushes near the facility, police said. Body of S C Khatua, who was allefgedly facing a CBI probe, was found lying in the bushes near the hilly area of the factory's estate, Sanjay Singh, in-charge of Ghamapur Police Station told PTI. Thomas Chandy, 3 others fined Rs 25 lakh for wasting Kerala HC's time

The Kerala High Court on Tuesday imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 each on former state minister Thomas Chandy and three others for withdrawing their pleas challenging a vigilance court's proceedings against them in a land grab case. Three men killed in road accident

Three men were killed when a speeding bus hit the motorcycle they were riding near Kalyanpur village of the district Tuesday.
