Gurgaon police arrested an Iraqi national for allegedly killing two puppies after throwing them off from his eighth floor apartment located in upscale Emrald Estate here, apolice official said Tuesday. The incident occurred Monday when the founder of Umeed for Animal Foundation (NGO) complained to Gurgaon police control room against the accused, identified as Saif Ashar Abdul Hussain, 31, a native of Iraq, that he threw two puppies to death from his eighth floor apartment. "He was arrested on the basis of a CCTV footage, following which Saif Ashar Abdul Hussain confessed to his crime on sustained interrogation," Gurgaon police PRO Subhash Bokan said. The accused works as a guest attendant for the overseas people who come for treatment in Gurgaon hospitals, Bokan added.

The US Justice Department said Tuesday that it has arrested nearly 1,700 alleged online child sex offenders in a two-month operation across the country. The "Broken Heart" operation of April and May took aim at people who make and distribute child pornography, as well as those who receive and download it. It also went after people involved in trafficking children for sex, and pedophiles who travel around the country and abroad to sexually abuse children, the Justice Department said. The operation led to the identification of 308 child abusers and 357 children who suffered abuse in the production of pornography. "The sexual abuse of children is repugnant, and it victimizes the most innocent and vulnerable of all," Attorney General Bill Barr said in a statement. The Delhi Commission for Women rescued a 27-year-old woman who was allegedly held captive by her parents in her own house as they did not approve of her relationship with a man, the panel said Tuesday. The women's panel received a call on its 181 women helpline from a man who informed that his friend lives in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh and loves a woman who works with him and belongs to Delhi, they said. A minor girl was saved from marriage thanks to the timely intervention of local administration at the behest of an alert village in Akola district of Maharashtra, a police officer said Tuesday. The transplant coordinator of a leading hospital in Faridabad was arrested on Tuesday for her alleged role in an international kidney transplant racket, police said. Sonika Dabas was sent a notice by the Kanpur police to appear before Superintendent of Police (Crime) Rajesh Yadav, who was heading the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case. She had appeared before the SIT on Monday and faced intensive questioning in the sensational racket which was busted in the city in February and spreads across Turkey and the Middle East countries, Yadav said.
