Man dies in police custody; 1 head constable, 2 constables suspended

One head constable and two constables have been suspended in connection with a case wherein a man accused in a smuggling case died in custody at Nand Nagri police station.Govinda, accused in a smuggling case, died on Thursday.According to the police, on the basis of secret information, two policemen had arrested two persons, named Nayeem and Govinda, in connection with the smuggling of illegal liquor. Later, Govinda was taken to a hospital after he fell ill, however, the doctors declared him dead, police added.Reshma, a relative of the deceased said, "If he (Govinda) was ill, why didn't the police tell us, why are they telling us now that he is dead? He has been beaten up and killed by the police."However, the police have denied the charge.

Bill Skarsgard to headline true-crime drama 'Gilded Rage'

"It" star Bill Skarsgard is set to play the lead role in true-crime drama "Gilded Rage". Charlie McDowell is directing the film from his own script, reported Variety. Jake Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker are producing the project via their Nine Stories banner along with Jeremy Steckler of Conde Nast Entertainment. The movie is based on Benjamin Wallace's Vanity Fair article about the infamous murder of Investment banker Thomas Gilbert Sr, whose death was originally believed to be a suicide until an investigation proved otherwise. Skarsgard will play Thomas Gilbert Jr, who was arrested for the crime and is still awaiting trial to this day. Gilbert originally pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder, but he has resisted subsequent plea deals, while his mother foots the bill for his defense.

Woman artist assaulted on busy Goa street, video goes viral

A Mumbai-based woman artist has posted a video on social media purportedly showing being attacked by a man on a busy road in Goa last week. In the clip which is accompanied by a message, the woman, who was on a visit to the tourist state, expressed unhappiness over her attacker being granted bail within four days of his arrest. The police confirmed the incident and said the accused, Brian Franco, was arrested after she filed a complaint. Muzaffarnagar riots: Police attaches property of accused

The Uttar Pradesh police have attached the property of an accused in a Muzaffarnagar riots case after he failed to surrender before the court despite repeated arrest warrants. Ravinder Singh had allegedly stabbed a youth, Shahnawaz, to death at Kawal village in Muzaffarnagar on August 27, 2013. Singh was among the six accused in the case. The others who have been arrested include Prehlad, Bishan Singh, Tendu, Devender and Jitender. The stabbing incident had led to widespread riots in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining districts, where more than 60 persons were killed and over 40,000 displaced.

UP: Bovine smuggler held in Muzaffarnagar, 2 cows rescued

A suspected bovine smuggler was arrested here and two cows were recused, police said on Friday. Akhtar was held after a brief exchange of fire with the police near Begrazpur Police out post under Mansurpur Police Station on Thursday evening, they said. However, three of his associates managed to flee. Indore: 50-year-old nurse stabbed to death, accused held

Murder of Aligarh girl being probed under NSA, rape ruled out

Aligarh Police has decided to proceed to probe the murder of a two-year-old girl under sections of the National Security Act (NSA).Speaking to ANI on Thursday, Aligarh Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Akash Kulhary said they will try to transfer the case to a fast track court."We are proceeding with it as an NSA case, we will try to get it to a fast track court.
