The Union Health Ministry has released the draft National Pharmacy Commission Bill, 2023, which seeks to repeal the Pharmacy Act of 1948 and replace the Pharmacy Council of India with a national commission. The ministry put up the draft bill on its website on November 14 seeking comments from the public. The proposed bill aims to provide for a pharmacy education system that improves access to quality and affordable pharmacy or pharmaceutical education, ensures availability of adequate and high-quality pharmacy professionals in all parts of the country, promotes equitable and universal healthcare, and makes services of pharmacy professionals accessible to all citizens. The Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres (AB-HWCs) have recorded over 211 core footfalls till October 24 and people have availed free drugs over 1,83 crore times, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Monday. Addressing the 76th session of the World Health Organization Regional Committee for South-East Asia, Mandaviya lauded the progress of AB-HWCs, saying these have played an instrumental role in providing a comprehensive array of primary healthcare services. "As of October 24, AB-HWCs have recorded over 2,110 million footfalls. The impact is resounding with individuals availing free drugs over 1,830 million times and diagnostic services over 873 million times," he said. Over 70,000 people have pledged organ donation under the Ayushman Bhav campaign which aims to provide saturation coverage of healthcare services to every intended beneficiary, including those in the last mile, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Tuesday. Women outnumber men in pledging organ donation, said the health minister who also made the same pledge. The highest number of organ donation pledges were received from Maharashtra, followed by Telangana, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The Ayushman Bhav campaign was launched on September 13 by President Droupadi Murmu and was implemented during the 'Seva Pakhwada' from September 17 till October 2. Mandaviya said over 63.8 Ayushman cards were made while 1,13,41,303 Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) IDs have been generated. As many as 2,69,422 health melas have been organised at Health and Wellness Centres during the 'Seva Pakhwada' and witnessed a footfall of around 161 lakh people who availed free diagnostics service
