Cooperative sector happy with Centre's decisions, says FM Sitharaman

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said the representatives of the local cooperative sector were "extremely happy" with the various steps taken by the Centre for their benefit. The minister was speaking to reporters after concluding her three-day tour of the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency in Pune district. Those who exploited the cooperative sector for political gains never thought of creating a separate ministry for it, and it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who set up the cooperative ministry, she said. Maharashtra: Gas leaks from container truck on Pune highway, no injuries

Gas leaked from a container truck loaded with hydrogen peroxide on a highway in Maharashtra's Pune district on Friday, and no injuries were reported in the incident, a fire official said. The leak was reported when the truck was at Shindewadi, off the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway, around 7.30 am, the fire official from the Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) said. Firefighters who specialised in handling hazardous gases were rushed to the spot and no injuries were reported in the incident, he said. "We received a call around 7.30 am, and within 15 to 20 minutes, the team rushed to the spot. As hydrogen peroxide is highly flammable, even a spark from a truck's silencer could have triggered a fire," PMRDA fire officer Sujit Patil said. The truck was taken away from the main highway and the team plugged the leak and sprayed water jet to clean the chemical spilt on the road, he said. Traffic remained smooth and no one was affected due to the leak, the official added.

Maha CM's convoy stuck in traffic as truck breaks down, blocks road in Pune

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's convoy was stuck in traffic briefly Friday evening after a truck and a car broke down blocking the highway near Chandani Chowk in Pune. Personnel from the Pimpri Chinchwad Police traffic department rushed to the spot and helped the chief minister's convoy pass through the area. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anand Bhoite said the chief minister's convoy was on the way to Satara. "As a truck and a car broke down blocking two lanes of the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway near Chandani Chowk in Pune, the convoy got stuck at around 8 pm. Eight suspected cases of lumpy skin disease in cattle have been reported from a village in Junnar tehsil of Pune district, a senior official has said. A team of the district health department's disease investigation section will visit the Mandave village during the day to collect samples for examination, said Ayush Prasad, chief executive officer of the Pune Zilla Parishad. RBI cancels licence of Shri Anand Co-operative Bank due to lack of capital

RBI on Thursday said it has cancelled the license of Shri Anand Co-operative Bank, Chinchwad, Pune as the lender does not have adequate capital and cannot pay its present depositors in full. The bank ceases to carry on banking business, with effect from the close of business on Thursday (July 7, 2022), the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said in a statement. The Commissioner for Cooperation and Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Maharashtra has been asked to issue an order for winding up the bank and appoint a liquidator for the bank.
