Dhawan leads India's top-order onslaught with classy hundred

The legend of Shikhar Dhawan in ICC tournaments continued to grow as his stylish hundred formed the cornerstone of a fantastic batting display that powered India to a commanding 352 for five against Australia in World Cup. The left-handed opener's 17th ODI hundred (117 off 109 balls) was well complemented by fellow opener Rohit Sharma's 57 off 70 balls with the openers raising a stand of 127. Ever consistent skipper Virat Kohli (82 off 77 balls) played an effective knock and shared a 92-run stand with Dhawan. Kohli's sixes off Mitchell Starc -- over long-on and extra cover -- stood out. The last 10 overs yielded India 116 runs, primarily due to Hardik Pandya's whirlwind knock of 48 from 27 balls and Mahendra Singh Dhoni's 27-run cameo. Floater Pandya played in a manner only he can while Dhoni did his bit in putting the finishing touches, which included a six over square leg off Starc. The Indian openers played out a good opening spell from Starc (1/74) and Pat Cummins (1/55), who ...

West Indies need to be aware of job at hand against South Africa: Lloyd

South Africa may be struggling but two-time World Cup winning captain Clive Lloyd feels West Indies cannot afford to take the Proteas lightly here Monday. The South Africans have lost their first three matches in the ongoing World Cup, while the West Indies have won one and lost one. "Windies have to be aware of the job at hand as South Africa is in danger of missing out on the top four if they lose," Lloyd said in a column for the ICC. The former West Indian skipper said the Windies failed to capitalise after having Australia on the mat at 38 for four in their previous game. "I think the West Indies should have sewn the game up, but they did not bowl very well towards the end of Australia's innings after being in the ascendancy earlier on," said Lloyd. "West Indies had Australia in a similar position to when they played Pakistan a few days ago and expected them to capitulate like the Pakistan side did, but the Australians have won five World Cups therefore it's obvious that they have

Macau pull out of World Cup qualifier in Sri Lanka citing safety

Macau's football chiefs have said they will not send a team to Sri Lanka for a World Cup qualifying match this week, citing security fears following the deadly Easter suicide attacks. The decision sparked a rebuke from Sri Lanka's football authorities who insisted the country was safe for international matches and that their team had a right to play on home soil. The Chinese enclave had been due to play Sri Lanka on Tuesday in the second leg of a qualifying first-round clash. But in a statement the Macau Football Association (MFA) said it had decided not to send a team "due to the recent terrorist attack in Sri Lanka and for the sake of the team's personal safety". The MFA said it had asked FIFA, the Asian Football Confederation and Sri Lanka's footballing authorities to switch the match to a neutral venue but the request had yet to be granted. "MFA will have to put our players' personal safety as a priority. And, in the view of the fact that we cannot guarantee the safety of the team
