Weather stays pleasant in Himachal Pradesh

Weather continued to be pleasant in Himachal Pradesh with the minimum temperature coming down by three notches after rain in isolated areas Wednesday, the Meteorological Department said. However, the maximum temperature in the state also rose by four degree Celsius, said Manmohan Singh, Director, Meteorological Centre, Shimla. Una remained the hottest place in the state with the maximum temperature hovering around 38.8 degree Celsius. The lowest temperature was recorded at Keylong, where the mercury hovered around 5.2 degree Celsius. The maximum temperature in Bilaspur was 38.1 degree Celsius followed by Paonta Sahib (37.7), Mandi (35.9), Sundernagar (35.8), Kangra (35.7), Hamirpur (37.5), Chamba (35.2), Bhuntar (35) and Dharamsala (27.2). Manali recorded the maximum temperature of 25.8 degree Celsius while it was 25.4 degree Celsius in Shimla. The maximum temperature in Dalhousie and Kufri settled at 20.8 and 17.9 degree Celsius, respectively.

Heavy rains lash east Rajasthan

Heavy rains lashed parts of east Rajasthan in the past 24 hours, the meteorological department said on Wednesday. Pratapgarh recorded 28 cm of rainfall, followed by 19 cm in Chittorgarh, 17 cm and 16 cm in Sabla and Aspur of Dungargarh district, respectively, an official said. Various other places received 7-15 cm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. On Wednesday, Barmer recorded 9.6 mm of rainfall, followed by 4 mm in Kota, 1 mm in Jaisalmer and 0.1 mm in Jaipur, the official said. Sri Ganganagar recorded the state's highest maximum temperature at 41.3 degrees Celsius, followed by 40.5 in Barmer, 40 in Bikaner, 39.6 in Churu, 39.4 in Jodhpur and 32.6 in Jaipur, the weather department said. It has forecast light to moderate rainfall at many places in east Rajasthan and at isolated places in west Rajasthan in the next 24 hours.

Dry conditions to push mercury up in Delhi

Temperatures are likely to increase in the national capital and adjoining areas over the next three-four days as chances of rain are slim at present and a possibility of downpours only next week. With the sky remaining mostly clear on Wednesday, the maximum temperature rose slightly to settle at 36.8 degrees Celsius. Sporadic rains and windy conditions had kept the mercury in check for around three days. The city recorded a low of 24.2 degrees Celsius, four notches below the normal, and humidity levels were between 41 and 85 per cent, a Meteorological Department official said. Light showers, thunderstorm in parts of UP

The day temperature fell in several parts of Uttar Pradesh after light showers and thunderstorms occurred at isolated places, the meteorological department said on Wednesday. Etawah recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state, with mercury touching 43.4 degrees Celsius, the department said. The rainfall in Attara was 20 mm, and 10 mm each in Naraini and Hamirpur. In some places, the day temperatures fell, but remained above normal, the Met department said. The weather agency has forecast rain or thunderstorm in the next 24 hours at isolated places, but the weather is likely to remain dry on Friday and Saturday in the western part of the state.

Uneven distribution of pre-monsoon showers in Pb, Hry

Parts of Punjab and Haryana saw uneven distribution of rains during pre-monsoon season between June 1-18, according to data released by the Chandigarh Meteorological Centre. Some districts in the two states received excess pre-monsoon rains, while many others received scanty showers, the data showed. The total rainfall recorded in the two states, however, was below normal for this period, an official of the MeT centre told PTI. Haryana, as a whole, received 16 mm of rains during the period as against the normal of 20.2 mm, while Punjab recorded 14.9 mm rainfall, against the normal of 21.3 mm, he said. In Haryana, Gurgaon received 3.6 mm of rains during the period as against the normal of 13.8 mm. Panipat received 6.8 mm of rains against 22.1 mm, Yamunanagar received 5.6 mm against 46.1 mm, Faridabad received 5.7 mm against 16.4 mm and Ambala received 16.4 mm rains against 45.1 mm, the official said. Low pressure area over Kutch moves towards north MP & south UP

The low pressure area over Kutch, which caused heavy rainfall at isolated places in north Gujarat districts and Saurashtra region in the last 24 hours, Wednesday moved towards north Madhya Pradesh and south Uttar Pradesh, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. Over the next two days, the maximum temperature in Gujarat is likely go up by 2-3 degrees Celsius and some parts of the state, except Kutch, will receive rainfall during this period, it said. "Yesterday's low pressure area has moved away and now lies over north Madhya Pradesh and adjoining south Uttar Pradesh with associated upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to 3.1 kms above the mean sea level," the IMD said in its release. Cool rainy morning in parts of Goa

It was a cool Wednesday morning in Goa as light rains lashed some parts, including Panaji, even as the monsoon is yet to arrive in the coastal state. Light to moderate showers were witnessed in most places of Goa on Tuesday and continued on Wednesday, the Indian Meteorological Department's (IMD) centre here said in a bulletin. Despite the rain, the maximum temperaturesremained appreciably above normal over North Goa and South Goa districts. The state capital Panaji and Mormugao port area in South Goa recorded the highest maximum temperature of34 degree Celsius on Tuesday, the IMD said. The Mapusa town in North Goa has so far received two cm rain this month, while the rural areas of Pernem and Valpoi got one cm rain in the same period, it said. Rains bring respite from heat in some parts of country, death toll reaches 83 in Bihar

Light rains in parts of India kept the mercury in check on Tuesday, even though there was no let-up in heatwave conditions in several states, including Bihar, where the death toll reached 83. Relief from scorching heat in Jammu

The mercury dipped appreciably below normal for this time of the season in Jammu city on Tuesday, giving the residents some respite from the blistering heat, a Meteorological Department spokesperson said. The weatherman has forecast rains in isolated places across Jammu and Kashmir during the next five days. The maximum and the minimum temperature in state's winter capital Jammu fell by several degrees below the average for this part of the season, the MeT spokesperson said. Light rains, cloud cover pave way for pleasant weather

A cloudy sky, gusty winds and light rainfall made the weather on Tuesday pleasant in the national capital, which recorded a maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius, four notches below the normal. The maximum temperature in Himachal Pradesh decreased by several notches on Tuesday as rainfall occurred at many places during the past 24 hours, the meteorological department said. Rains lash parts of Haryana, Punjab; maximum temperatures drop

The maximum temperatures dropped several notches below the normal limits in Haryana and Punjab on Tuesday following rainfall in several parts. Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, which received 0.8 mm rain, recorded a maximum of 33.2 degrees Celsius, five notches below the normal, a Meteorological Department report said here. Low intensity rainfall over Maha till Sunday: IMD

The India Meteorological Department Tuesday revised its forecast for Maharashtra for the next five days, predicting low intensity showers over entire state till Sunday. In a statement issued in the afternoon, the IMD predicted widespread rainfall on Wednesday in Konkan region and Goa, while Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada would get showers in isolated parts due to local climatic conditions. It said Marathwada would receive isolated showers till Saturday and more intense showers on Sunday. However, the monsoon is expected to arrive in the desert state in the first week of July, the official said. In past 24 hours, Banasthali recorded 17.2 mm of rainfall, followed by 7 mm in Sawai Madhopur, 4.1 mm in Jaipur, 2 mm in Eranpura Road and 1.1 mm in Pilani town of Jhunjhunu district, he said. Cyclone Vayu as weakened and crossed Gujarat's Kutch district on Tuesday morning, causing rainfall at some places in the state, a MeT official said. Rains are likely to continue till Wednesday in Kutch, Saurashtra and north Gujarat regions because of its impact, she said. Chhattisgarh likely to get rain in two days: MeT

Chhattisgarh residents may get respite from the scorching summer heat soon as rains are likely to occur in the state in next two days, the weatherman said on Tuesday. The monsoon, which has already been delayed, is likely to arrive in the state by next week, an official at the Regional Meteorological Centre here said.
