Shares of Banks surged after the government's re-election ended the threat of dividend imputation changes, increased regulatory scrutiny and capped premiums. The ruling LNP, which only called the financial services royal commission reluctantly, is perceived by investors to be friendlier to the banking industry. Among the banks, Westpac closed 9.2% higher at A$27.75, NAB closed 7.9% higher at A$25.81, ANZ Bank closed 7.8% higher at A$27.86 and Commonwealth Bank was 6.3% higher at A$77.40. NIB Holdings was up 15.8% to A$6.82 and Medibank Private was up 11.5% to A$3.21 with Labor's threat of a two% cap on annual premium increases for the next two years now out of the way.

At 14:25 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was up 1,297.21 points or 3.42% at 39,227.98. The Nifty 50 index was up 376.45 points or 3.3% at 11,783.60. Sentiment was boosted after most exit polls forecast a majority for the ruling BJP-led NDA in Lok Sabha polls.
Castor seed prices dipped by Rs 66 to Rs 5,880 per quintal in futures trade Monday after investors tightened bets amid muted trend at the spot market. On the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, castor seed for July contracts was trading lower by Rs 66, or 1.11 per cent, to Rs 5,880 per quintal, having an open interest of 65,150 lots. Castor seed prices for August contracts, too, dipped by Rs 108, or 1.79 per cent, to Rs 5,932 per quintal, having an open interest of 55 lots.
Domestic benchmark indices extended their rally Monday with the BSE Sensex climbing 1,300 points, while Nifty touched 11,800 mark as investors cheered exit poll results that showed a likely win for the ruling NDA in the general elections. Auto components major Bharat Forge Monday reported a nearly threefold jump in its standalone net profit to Rs 299.5 crore for the March quarter. The company had posted a standalone net profit of Rs 100.33 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago, Bharat Forge said in a regulatory filing. Its total income stood at Rs 1,718.72 crore as against Rs 1,500.83 crore in the year-ago quarter, it added. For the full year 2018-19, the firm's consolidated net profit stood at Rs 1,032.59 crore as compared with Rs 753.97 crore a year ago, a growth of 36.95 per cent, it said. Total consolidated income for the year was Rs 10,348.52 crore as compared to Rs 8,556.68 crore in the previous fiscal.
