Coal India subsidiaries need to achieve annual targets: Pralhad Joshi

Union Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi on Thursday said to meet the coal requirements of the country, it is necessary that all subsidiaries of Coal India Ltd (CIL) achieve their annual targets. Joshi visited Western Coalfields Ltd headquarters in Nagpur and attended various programmes, said a press release issued by WCL. Western Coalfields Ltd (WCL) is one of the eight subsidiary companies of CIL, a central PSU. The minister also presided over a review meeting and took stock of the production, productivity and coal dispatch status of WCL, said the release. Chairman-cum-Managing Director of WCL Manoj Kumar briefed the minister on coal mining activities and assured the company would achieve the production target by the year-end. CIL will achieve 1 bn tonne coal production target by FY26: Pralhad Joshi

CIL will achieve 1 billion tonne coal production target by 2025-26 as against the earlier timeline of 2023-24 in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said on Wednesday. Coal India Ltd (CIL) accounts for over 80 per cent of the domestic coal output. "Due to COVID our earlier target has been postponed. We will fulfil our dream of one billion tonne and we will be aatmanirbhar in thermal coal...By 2025-26, Coal India will produce one billion tonne," Joshi said on the sidelines of a function here. CIL was earlier eying 1 billion tonne coal production by 2023-24. Replying to a question, he said as far as thermal power plants are concerned, there is an average coal stock of 24 million tonne and day-to-day stock of the fossil fuel is adding. "Our plan is to keep at least 40 million tonne of coal as far as March 31 is concerned," he said. India's coal production rises 12% to 57.93 million tonnes in Sept

The country's coal output rose a 12 per cent to 57.93 million tonnes in September. India's coal output stood at 51.72 MT in the year-ago period. "During September 2022, CIL (Coal India Ltd), Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) and captive mines/others registered a growth of 12.35 per cent, 8.43 per cent and 12.37 per cent by producing 45.67 MT, 4.93 MT and 7.33 MT, respectively," as per the provisional statistics of the coal ministry. Of the top 37 mines, the output of 25 blocks has been more than 100 per cent and another five mines' production stood between 80 and 100 per cent in the last month. The dispatch of coal also went up marginally by 1.95 per cent to 61.18 MT in September, over 60.02 MT in the corresponding period last year. Northern Coalfields logs 19.8% growth in coal production in H1FY23

Northern Coalfields Ltd on Saturday said it has produced 64 million tonne of coal, registering a 19.8 per cent growth in the first half of the 2022-23 financial year. The miner had produced 53.44 million tonne of coal in the year-ago period. The Singrauli-based subsidiary of Coal India said its dispatch also grew by 16.1 per cent year-on-year in the first two quarters of the current fiscal. The company dispatched 66.82 million tonne of coal in the April-September period as against 57.55 million tonne achieved in the corresponding months last year. NCL has fed powerhouses with 60.80 million tonne of coal, which is 91 per cent of the total dispatched to consumers till date, the miner said in a statement. Coal production has stopped at Parsa East & Kanta Basan block in Chhattisgarh since last month, and it may "adversely impact" the coal output target from captive mines for this year, an official statement said on Tuesday. India's coal output remains below estimate at 58 MT in August: Govt data

India produced 58.33 million tonnes of coal in August, missing its target of 67.94 MT for the month, according to the government data. The coal production target for August was 67.94 million tonnes (MT), according to the government's monthly statistics (provisional). However, the production during last month increased by 8.27 per cent to 58.33 MT in August from 53.88 MT in the corresponding month of previous fiscal. Country's coal output in the first five months of the ongoing financial year increased to 324.39 MT as against 263.97 MT in the April-August period of the previous fiscal. The total despatch of coal also increased by 5.41 per cent to 63.43 MT in August over 60.18 MT in the year-ago month. CIL dispatches over 152 MT of coal to power sector in Q1: Govt tells LS

State-owned CIL dispatched 152.49 million tonnes (MT) of coal to the power sector during April-June 2022, a year-on-year rise of 19 per cent, Parliament was informed on Wednesday. Coal India Limited (CIL) is the largest producer and supplier of the dry fuel in the country. "CIL has dispatched 152.49 MT of coal to Power Sector in the first quarter of the current fiscal surpassing all the previous highs of the same period and achieving a growth of 19 per cent over last year in the same period," Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi said in a reply in the Lok Sabha. At 14.43 MT, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) dispatched 4.1 per cent higher coal to the power sector in the first quarter of the current fiscal. CIL's coal output in double digits for four consecutive months in July

State-owned CIL on Monday said that it produced 47.3 million tonnes (MT) of coal last month, registering a growth of 11 per cent from the year-ago period. The production of domestic coal usually dips during monsoon every year due to disruptions in mining activity. The company's output in the corresponding month of previous fiscal was 42.6 million tonnes (MT), the coal behemoth said in a BSE filing. Coal India Ltd (CIL) said it maintained the double-digit rising streak for four consecutive months of the current financial year. Coal India accounts for over 80 per cent of domestic coal production. Production from captive, commercial coal mines rises 79% in June quarter

The production from captive and commercial coal blocks has increased by 79 per cent to 27.7 Million Tonnes (MT) in the June quarter. The coal ministry also expressed hopes that the targeted production of 32 MT from captive and commercial mines during the second quarter of FY23 will be achieved. "Production from coal blocks during the first quarter of financial Year 2022-23 was reviewed by the Additional Secretary and Nominated Authority, the Ministry of Coal on July 6, 2022 in the presence of project proponents. Coal production achieved during the first quarter is 27.7 MT which is 79 per cent higher than 15.5 MT coal produced during same period in FY 2021-22," the coal ministry said in a statement. India's coal production rises 34% YoY to 71.3 mn tonnes in May

The country's coal production registered a rise of 33.88 per cent to 71.30 million tonnes (MT) in the month of May. Coal output in the corresponding month of the previous fiscal was 53.25 MT, as per provisional data of the Ministry of Coal. Of the top 37 coal producing mines, 23 produced more than 100 per cent, while the performance of 10 mines stood between 80 and 100 per cent, the ministry said. The thermal power generation went up by 26.18 per cent in May over the corresponding month of the previous fiscal. "The overall power generation in May 2022 has been 23.32 per cent higher than in April 2021 and 2.63 per cent higher than the power generated in April 2022," it said. Coal-based power generation dropped by 3.82 per cent to 98,609 million units (MU) in May against 1,02,529 MU in April 2022. However, total power generation increased to 1,40,059 MU in May against 1,36,465 MU in April 2022 on account of hydro and wind energy.
