Delhi to soon have memorial of its unsung freedom fighters: L-G V K Saxena

Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on Saturday announced that the national capital will soon have a memorial dedicated to the unsung heroes of Delhi in the freedom struggle. The history of India's freedom struggle was also the story of every common resident of Delhi, he said, adding that only a handful of freedom fighters are known to the generations that came after independence. "Their names needed to be etched and chronicled in our contemporary history for posterity to see and celebrate," he added. He appealed to the citizen to first work towards changing Delhi for the better and then dedicate themselves to making India the most advanced country in the next 25 years, "when we celebrate 100 years of Independence in ...

The Delhi Congress said it fought to prevent Delhi from becoming a drug capital and has pledged to send hardcore dishonest to jail. Delhi Congress Chief Anil Kumar said the party had in June written to the then Police Commissioner of Delhi, Rakesh Asthana, informing him of a multi-crore scam in the illegal distribution of liquor licences to shell companies. He said the party had also staged several protests demanding the resignation of Delhi Excise Minister Manish Sisodia over the alleged violation of rules and procedural lapses in the Arvind Kejriwal government's Excise Policy, 2021-22. Sounds from Rohingya colony: From hope to fear in a matter of hours

Mariam, a Rohingya Muslim who lives in a squalid Delhi locality, was happy she and her daughter would get to live in a pucca house for the first time in a decade. A tweet by Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri had raised her hopes, but a quick clarification by the Home Ministry meant the hope of getting a roof over her head in a faraway land was short-lived. "We don't know why the Government of India changed their decision. The only thing I was happy about was that, my daughter and I would be living in a pucca building for the first time after a decade," the 35-year-old, living in Delhi's Kalindi Kunj, told PTI. A section of the refugees living in Delhi's Kalindi Kunj has been apprehensive about their deportation in an "unfair" manner, after the Ministry of Home Affairs directed the Delhi government to declare the camps of the Rohingyas in Delhi as detention centres. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) made it clear Wednesday it had not given any directions to provide flats to Rohing
