The survivors of the Dubai bus accident which claimed 17 lives, including those of 12 Indians, recounted the horror when their bus, returning from Oman, took a wrong exit and crashed into a road height restriction barrier that fell and ripped through the vehicle.

A woman and her two children suffocated to death after a fire broke out in a three-storeyed building that housed a playschool and a cloth shop in Haryana's Faridabad Saturday, police said. Police said the fire had broken out in the cloth shop being run from the ground floor of the building at Dabua Colony here, resulting in a thick smoke engulfing the upper floors, where the family lived and ran a playschool. The cloth shop was being run by the woman's husband. The playschool was closed due to summer vacations, said area SHO Sandeep Kumar. The husband had gone to fetch milk from the market when the incident took place, resulting in the death of the woman (28), her daughter (8) and son (5), he said. "Though the fire did not spread to the upper floors, a thick smoke engulfed the building, choking them to death," he said. He said the victims were rushed to a hospital but could not be saved. Kumar said the area where the incident took place had many such buildings, where people ran shops .
Mumbai South Central MP Rahul Shewale of the Shiv Sena has announced to donate his salary for one month for drought relief in his home state Maharashtra. In a letter addressed to Lok Sabha secretary general, Shewale has requested that his first salary as an MP be deposited in the "Chief Minister's fund" for drought mitigation. Shewale, who got re-elected from the constituency in the recently-concluded polls, said the state was experiencing severe drought this year. Sena president Uddhav Thackeray has made an appeal for contribution for drought mitigation. The Sena won 18 seats in the 2019 elections.
Senior journalist and writer Feeroz Ashraf died in a road accident here last night.Ashraf was hit by a speeding autorickshaw near his residence in Jogeshwari West here.He was taken to Nanavati Hospital where he was declared brought dead. The auto, which hit him, is yet to be identified.The funeral was done today at Malad graveyard.Ashraf used to write regular columns in Nav Bharat Times and several other newspapers. He was also a guest faculty at the Mumbai University.

The police Saturday launched an investigation to nab the miscreants who allegedly kidnapped a businessman from Nayapalli area here, but had to leave him as their vehicle met with an accident, a police officer said. A businessman Sibsunder Das lodged a complaint at Nayapally police station stating that unidentified miscreants took him away at the gun point when he was sleeping in his car outside his house in IRC Village after a quarrel with his wife on Friday night. The kidnappers had come in another vehicle and took him along with them, he said. "While the two vehicles were heading towards Cuttack, the man who was driving my vehicle hit another car. Soon after the collision, the four criminals fled from the scene, leaving me behind," the businessman said in his complaint. Large-scale rescue operations continued Saturday to pull out the two-year-old boy who fell into an over 150-feet-deep borewell near his house in Punjab's Sangrur district almost 48 hours ago. Fatehvir Singh, who would turn three next week, fell into the unused borewell in a field while he was playing near his house at around 4.00 pm Thursday, officials said. The borewell was covered with a cloth and the boy accidentally stepped on it. His mother tried to rescue him, but failed. A team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Army experts, assisted by the police, civil authorities, villagers and volunteers, were carrying out the rescue operations. The toddler is stuck around 110 feet deep in the borewell which is seven inches wide. Officials said a parallel shaft of 36 inches in diameter was being installed to bring out the child safely. Air travel may soon become expensive as the Centre has announced an aviation security fee (ASF) of Rs. 150 per domestic passenger and USD 4.85 for international passengers from July 1 next.Under the Aircraft Rules, 1937, the Central Government has accorded the approval for levy of Aviation Security Fee,, an order of the Civil Aviation Ministry said.As per the order, ASF for the domestic passengers will be levied at the rate of Rs 150 per embarking passenger and for the international passengers, the fee will be levied at the rate of US $ 4.85 or equivalent Indian rupees per embarking passengers.The aviation security fee will be used for paying security dues at aerodromes.
25 people, mostly children, were injured after a car rammed into a tourist bus here on Friday evening, according to local authorities.The car was reportedly being driven by an 80-year-old.Quoting a local newspaper, Thueringer Allgemeine, Sputnik reported that at least 21 of the injured are children. The rest of the wounded include the bus driver, a teacher and the car's elderly driver along with one of its passengers.The bus was carrying 49 schoolchildren from ages 16 to 18 years, along with six teachers and one driver when the incident occurred.Six minors, the car's aged driver and one of its passengers were gravely wounded and are currently receiving medical attention.Two rescue helicopters, seven ambulances and nine firefighting vehicles responded to the mishap immediately.

Three people, including a minor, were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Korba district of Chhattisgarh, police said Saturday. Rains lashed several parts of the district on Friday evening and lightning strikes at separate places left three people dead, a senior police official said. In the incident that took place in Kartala police station area, the deceased identified as Ramprasad Rathiya (40) had taken shelter under a tree to protect himself from rains when he was hit by lightning and died on the spot, he said. A similar incident took place in Devralmal village under Urga police station area, in which 17-year-old Vikas Kumar died, the official said. In the third incident, the victim, Dev Prasad (23), was standing in front of his house in Rampur police outpost area when he was struck by lightning, he added.
