At least 19 people have been injured in blasts at a factory that manufactures explosives in western Russia, emergency services said on Saturday.
Two youths were killed and three others injured when two motorcycles collided near Lakhnapar village under Sikanderpur police station area here, officials said Saturday. The accident took place late Friday night, killing Arvind Pandey (28) and Manjit Rajbhar (23) on the spot, police said. Three others were injured in the mishap and have been admitted to a hospital, police added.

Forest fires have triggered a chain of explosions in anti-personnel mines along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, officials said Saturday. No loss of life was reported in the incident, they said. The fire broke out in Mankote and Balakote forward areas along the LoC and spread to large areas Friday night, following which several mines exploded, they said. The explosions caused panic among residents of the border area. The forest department officials, the Army and locals brought the fire under control, the officials said.
At least 19 people were injured in a blast at a major explosives plant in central Russia on Saturday, the Interfax news agency reported, citing the local health ministry. The blast took place at the "Kristall" factory in Dzerzhinsk about 400 kilometres (250 miles) east of Moscow. "All of those who were injured -- around 19 people -- are receiving medical assistance," a representative of the local health ministry told Interfax. "We are talking about shrapnel wounds of mild and moderate severity," she said. Representatives of Kristall told the agency that five people were working in the plant at the time of the explosion and that they were safely evacuated. Local fire fighters told agencies they had no information about any more people still inside the plant. "There was a technical explosion in one of the workshops, followed by a fire of around 100 square meters," a spokesman of the local emergency ministry told news agencies.
A 43-year-old man was killed and 16 others, including six women, were injured after they were struck by lightning in Chhattigsarh's Jashpur district, police said Saturday. In another incident Saturday, 22 cattle died after they were struck by a bolt from the sky in Bijapur district. On Friday night, some people were dancing in an open area during a marriage party in Gadha Gamhariya village in Jashpur district when a thunderstorm started, according to police. A man, identified as Rooshnath, died on the spot when he was struck by lightning while 16 others, including six women, injured, a police official said. The injured were rushed to district hospital, he said, adding that they are out of danger. On Saturday morning, lightning struck a tree in Gollaguda village in Bhopalpatnam area of Bijapur district where cattles were tied, leaving 15 cows and 7 bulls dead, an administrative official said.
Three shops and an oil godown were gutted in a major fire that broke out Saturday due to a short circuit at a 'mandi' here, police said. No loss of life was reported, they said. More than 20 ton edible oil stored in the godown and grains and cattle feed stored in three shops at Beawar road destroyed in the fire which was controlled by fire tenders, the police said. Four people were killed in a truck-bike collision near Muzaffarpur district in Bihar on Saturday, police said.
Forty two families residing in twin four-storey buildings in Wagle Estate locality here were evacuated after a canopy of one of the top-floor tenements collapsed in the wee hours of Saturday, officials said. The twin buildings, Asha and Usha, have total 42 tenements. Since they have turned old, the housing society has undertaken repair works after a structural audit, officials said. "Around 1 am on Saturday, a canopy of one of the tenements of the top floor of a building collapsed," station officer of Wagle Estate Fire Station, Nitin Shinde, said. Nobody was was injured in the incident, he added. Three people lost their lives and nine injured when their tempo collided with a stationary dumper, police said Saturday. According to the police, the incident took place on Friday evening in Ratipur village on the Ayodhya-Praygaraj road. SHO Kotwali Ravindra Srivastava said the accident took place when the driver of the ill-fated tempo lost control over the vehicle and collided with a stationary dumper. The deceased have been identified as Malti (55), Bhagwanta (65) and Geeta (50). Nine people injured in the incident were first admitted in the district hospital and then referred to Medical College, Prayagraj, for further treatment, the police officer said. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem, he said.

Two persons were killed and three others injured when lightning struck an office of a crusher unit in Dumka district on Friday, a police officer said. Superintendent of Police Y S Ramesh said the incident took place when the men were sleeping in the office room of the unit in Pinargadia village. Two died while others were injured, he added. The injured have been taken to Rampurhaat hospital in the neighbouring West Bengal, Ramesh said. The bodies were recovered and the rescue operation is on, he said.
The Rajasthan government Friday said it paid Rs 1873.64 crore in 2018-19, including Rs 962.91 crore of agriculture grants, to drought-affected farmers in the state, which were pending for the last four years. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot directed officials of the state disaster management authority to clear all pending dues as early as possible, a government release said. Gehlot, in a meeting Friday, also directed officials to take effective steps to deal with the drought situation in many districts of the state. He said no negligence will be tolerated and asked officials to work with inter-departmental coordination to ensure water, fodder and health camps for livestock animals, the statement said. The chief minister was apprised that 5,555 villages of nine districts have been declared severe and medium drought-affected pockets. Teachers and coaching centre owners Friday staged a protest outside the collectorate here, demanding that sealed institutes be reopened and given time to comply with fire safety norms.
