Baahubali-fame Rana Daggubati rules out foray into politics

: Baahubali-fame Rana Daggubati has ruled out a foray into politics, as other actors have done, but said he wants to continue doing films. "It is personal for actors to enter politics, like Rajnikanth and Kamal Hassan. I like politics as it has a good drama and I want to do films on such dramas," he said, ruling out his entry into this field. On doing films in Tamil, he said the situation has changed now and there was no language barrier for a film. Any movie with a universal subject has wide acceptance across the entire country, he said. A Tamil director, with a Telugu hero doing a Hindi film was well-received, Rana said. Rana, who was here to participate in Maha Shivarathri celebrations organised by Isha Foundation Monday night, launched a global brand of wrist watches earlier.

Oscar Isaac wants to star in 'Metal Gear Solid' film adaptation

Oscar Isaac has expressed his interest in starring in the film adaptation of popular video game "Metal Gear Solid". In an interview with IGN for upcoming film "Triple Frontier", the 39-year-old actor, along with his co-stars Pedro Pascal, Ben Affleck, Garrett Hedlund and Charlie Hunnam, was asked which video game adaptation they would like to star in. To this, Isaac replied, "Metal Gear Solid, that's the one. I'm throwing my hat in for that one." The "Metal Gear" series, created by Japanese video game designer Hideo Kojima, revolves around the character of Solid Snake. Since its debut in 1998, the character has achieved the status of an icon over the years. He dons a grey tactical uniform and long, flowing headband, and always speaks into his earpiece in a grovelling, melodramatic voice. The film adaptation of the game has been in development since 2006, and currently "Kong: Skull Island" director Jordan Vogt-Roberts is working on the project when he came on board in 2017.

Over 50 international films to be screened at 15th IAWRT Asian Women's Film Festival

The IAWRT Asian Women's Film Festival will see more than 50 films from around the world being screened at the 15th edition of the movie gala. The three-day festival, which opens Tuesday, will showcase films from 20 countries directed by Asian women filmmakers from Armenia, Bangladesh, Estonia, India, Iran, Sri Lanka, Syria and Turkey, among others. The festival, organised by International Association of Women in Radio and Television, received over 700 entries from 37 countries, the highest till date. Films by Bina Paul, Samina Mishra, Iffat Fatima, Jerro Mulla, Anandana Kapur, Supriya Suri will be screened. One of the festival highlights is a special country focus on Georgia. Netflix has announced that the second season of the British dark comedy series, "The End of the F***ing World", has started shooting. Josh Gad, Cynthia Erivo to team up for 'Rip Van Winkle' musical movie

"Widows" star Cynthia Erivo is partnering with Josh Gad on a new musical film based on classic American folk tale of "Rip Van Winkle". Warner Bros recently acquired the film rights. Amanda Idoko has penned the script based on Gad's concept and "Olaf's Frozen Adventure" songwriters Kate Anderson and Elissa Samsel. Erivo is attached to star in the film. Gad will produce with Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback. "Rip Van Winkle" is based on the short story of the same name by Washington Irving. It narrates a tale from the time of the American Revolution that helped lend a mythic air to colonial America. The short story, about a villager who falls asleep only to wake up decades later, missing the American Revolution, is perhaps best remembered as a cautionary tale of sleeping one's life away. Spotify logs in over 1 mn users in India within week of launch

Music streaming service Spotify has garnered over one million users in India in less than a week of its launch in the country. Spotify, which launched its services in India last week, competes with players like JioSaavn, Amazon Music, Xiaomi-backed Hungama and Gaana in the country where consumption of digital content is on the rise. When contacted, the Swedish firm confirmed the development, saying since its launch, Spotify has more than one million Indian users across both its free and premium tiers. The company offers local and international music for Indian listeners with its free app. Users have the option of upgrading to Spotify Premium for Rs 59 onwards per month. At the time of India launch, Spotify India Managing Director Amarjit Singh Batra had cited a 2018 report by IMI and IFPI to state that an average Indian internet user spends 21.5 hours listening to music, per week.
