Star West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph was on Friday ruled out of the upcoming Test series against India due to an unspecified injury with uncapped all-rounder Johann Layne replacing him in the squad. The two-match Test series is set to begin in Ahmedabad on October 2. "Johann Layne has replaced Shamar Joseph in the squad for the Test series against India," Windies Cricket announced on X. Deepti, Renuka shine as India bowl out West Indies for 162 in 3rd WODI

India pacer Renuka Thakur tormented West Indies with a fiery opening spell before Deepti Sharma claimed a stunning career-best six-wicket haul to bowl out the visitors for 162 in the third and final women's ODI here on Friday. Thakur (4/29) and Deepti (6/31) were relentless with the ball, taking all 10 wickets between them. Thakur's accurate line and length dismantled the top order, while Deepti deceived the West Indies batters with flight and guile, recording her third ODI five-wicket haul and second six-wicket performance. West Indies fought back with a 97-run partnership between Chinelle Henry (61) and Shemaine Campbelle (46), helping them to cross 160. Without this stand, the visitors might have been bowled out for less than 100. Both batted really well and were aggressive against the spinners. Apart from Henry and Campbelle, only Aaliyah Alleyne (21) reached a double digit score as West Indies' batting woes continued. Opting to bat first, West Indies' innings struggled from

Buoyed by momentum, India targets ODI series triumph against West Indies

Coming off one of their biggest wins in terms of runs, fancied India will look to guard against complacency when they take on a beleaguered West Indies side with an aim to bag the three-match series in the second Women's ODI here on Tuesday. India will be entering the game on the back of a massive 211-run victory over the visitors in the series opener in which the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team ticked almost all the boxes. Every match the teams play in the coming months will be significant as the ICC World Cup is scheduled to be held in the country next year. India, who have never won a women's World Cup, are desperate to end their ICC title drought at home and they are aware that a strong build-up is extremely important for them to head into the mega event as one of the contenders alongside the 'usual suspects', Australia and England. Though India have not begun their preparations for the big tournament in earnest, having suffered a 0-3 whitewash in Australia, they bounced back in styl

Richa Ghosh urges team India to use aggression against West Indies in ODIs

Wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh has urged the Indian women's team not to take the foot off the pedal after their T20I series victory, but to adopt a more aggressive approach when they face West Indies in the upcoming three ODIs. Ghosh smashed a world record-equalling fastest fifty, reaching the milestone in just 18 balls. The 21-year-old, who scored 54 off 21 balls, including five sixes and three fours, joining an exclusive club, that features New Zealand's Sophie Devine and Australia's Phoebe Litchfield. Her innings helped India pile on 217 runs in the third T20I on Thursday. "We will look to carry the momentum and approach the ODI series and not go easy, our approach should be much harder. It is a new ground and we will try to assess the situations first and plan accordingly, Ghosh told the media here after India won the series 2-1. Ghosh said she always has had the mindset to play aggressively. "The mindset (to play aggressively) is there in every game which comes from the pract

Venkatesh Prasad slams 'very, very ordinary India', says team lacks hunger

Former India seamer Venkatesh Prasad on Monday came down heavily on the Hardik Pandya-led team following its T20I series loss to a flagging West Indies, dubbing it a "very, very ordinary limited overs side" that is "living in illusion". With an eight-wicket thrashing in the fifth T20I, the West Indies humbled India in the five-match series after the visitors fought back to level it at 2-2 following reverses in the first two games. Prasad, who has been quite vocal in recent times, was least impressed with the result. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Prasad wrote, "India has been a very, very ordinary limited-overs side for some time now. They have been humbled by a West Indies side that failed to qualify for the T20 WC few months back. We had also lost to Ban (Bangladesh) in the ODI series. Hope they introspect instead of making silly statements." Although the West Indies recently failed to qualify for the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, it has always been a formidable side in the shortest ..

Need to find depth in our batting: Dravid after T20 series loss to Windies

India head coach Rahul Dravid has stressed on the need to add batting depth following the 2-3 loss to the West Indies in the T20 series. India played the series with a long tail comprising Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav and Mukesh Kumar. Spin all-rounder Axar Patel batted at number seven. In the series decider, India failed to accelerate in the death overs to end up with a below par 165/9. West Indies overhauled the target with two overs to spare. "I think in terms of our squad here, probably it didn't allow us the flexibility in some ways to be able to change the combinations a little bit. But I think going forward, we've got to look at certain areas in which we can get better. "Finding depth in our batting has been an area we are trying to address. We are trying to do the best we possibly can but that's certainly an area we can look at, how we cannot weaken our bowling attack but ensure we have a certain amount of depth in batting," said Dravid on Sunday. WI vs IND: I took my time and couldn't capitalise during back-10 - Pandya

Indian captain Hardik Pandya admitted that his lack of rhythm and slow approach became a turning point as his team lost momentum during the back-10 overs during the fifth T20 International against West Indies, here on Sunday. The Indian team under Pandya lost its first bilateral series in the shortest format the2-3 against the West Indies but the skipper harped on the positives, like emergence of youngsters like Tilak Varma and Yashasvi Jaiswal. "If you see, we lost that period post 10 overs. Since when I came, I wasn't able to capitalise and I took my time and could not finish," Pandya was forthright in his admission having scored 14 off 18 balls. On a slow track, Pandya defended his decision to bat first. "I believe that as a group we have to challenge ourselves. All these games are the games where we have to learn. We have spoken as a group that whenever we can take the hard way we will. "In hindsight, one series here or there doesn't matter but the commitment to the goal is .
