If an Englishman who has been brought up playing at Headingley for Yorkshire is getting beaten for pace, it indeed says a lot about Mayank's ability to rush the players.

Dhoni's batting was spectacular and lone positive on tough day: Fleming

There are not many better than the great Mahendra Singh Dhoni when it comes to game awareness and that reflected in his maiden outing with the bat this IPL season, said Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming. The margin of defeat for CSK's first loss of the season would have been bigger than 20 runs if it was not for Dhoni's unbeaten 37 off 16 balls at number eight. Dhoni's cameo against the Delhi Capitals included a thundering six over extra-cover before he unleashed a one handed maximum over mid-wicket in the 20th over. The 42-year-old, who last played for India in 2019, had undergone a knee surgery last year. "It was beautiful wasn't it. He has been playing incredibly well pre-season. He is coming back from quite a serious injury. His batting has been superb. it gave us a positive vibe towards the end of a tough day. "To get within 20 (runs of the target) run rate wise is important and he knows that. The way he played was spectacular," said the former New Zealand captai

IPL 2024, RCB vs LSG Preview: Faltering RCB eye collective improvement

An inconsistent Royal Challengers Bengaluru would be eager to hit the turnaround button when they host Lucknow Super Giants, who will keep an eye on regular skipper KL Rahul's fitness, in the IPL here on Tuesday. The Royal Challengers are currently eighth on the table with two points from three matches, and alarmingly, their net run rate too has dipped to -0.71 after a heavy defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders here last week. This is not to undermine the side under Faf du Plessis, who himself is struggling for big runs, but its ability to dish out consistent cricket is a matter of debate at this point. Several reasons are there for that overbearing feeling. It starts with the RCB batting line-up in which Virat Kohli is the only constant with two fifties from three matches. But Du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, Rajat Patidar and Cameron Green, who constitute the cream of RCB's top and middle-order, have so far made up for a faltering coalition. The quartet's collective returns from three

IPL 2024: Pant fined Rs 12 lakh for slow over rate during DC vs CSK match

Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant has copped a Rs 12 lakh fine for maintaining a slow over rate during the IPL game against Chennai Super Kings here. Delhi Capitals pulled off a comfortable 20-run win over defending champions CSK here on Sunday. "Rishabh Pant, the Delhi Capitals captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their IPL match against Chennai Super Kings," an IPL statement read. "As it was his team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Pant was fined Rs 12 lakhs," it added. Openers Prithvi Shaw and David Warner provided a thunderous start to the Capitals before Pant provided the final flurry to post a challenging target with a gutsy fifty. The DC bowlers, especially pacers Khaleel Ahmed and Mukesh Kumar, then rattled the CSK batters and despite veteran Mahendra Singh Dhoni's cracking 16-ball 37 not out, the defending champions suffered their first loss of the season. IPL 2024 MI vs RR preview: Struggling Mumbai look for happy homecoming

IPL's perennial slow-starters Mumbai Indians under new captain Hardik Pandya will hope for a happy homecoming when they take on a confident Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium here on Monday. Despite the change at the helm with Pandya replacing five-time title-winning skipper Rohit Sharma -- a move that has sparked brutal attack on the former -- Mumbai Indians have once again made a familiar disappointing start to their IPL campaign as they lost their first two matches. A six-run defeat to Pandya's former team Gujarat Titans was followed by a walloping by Sunrisers Hyderabad who won the record run-fest by 32 runs in Hyderabad, with Mumbai Indians plummeting to the last spot in the 10-team points table. These are still early days in the 17th edition of the T20 league but Pandya's Mumbai Indians will need to end their losing streak and improve their Net Run Rate which is the worst among all teams at -0.925. Among the odds stacked up against them is the absence of Suryakumar Yada

IPL 2024: Who is Mayank Yadav? The god-fearing West Delhi boy from Sonnet

Mayank Yadav now guarantees instant destruction. But growing up with the aspirations and anxieties of ordinary Indians, he has had his fair share of struggles while transforming from a frail 15-year-old to a frighteningly quick fast bowler. His father Prabhu Yadav was always determined to embrace the struggles usually associated with the middle class, in order to see Mayank excel on the cricket field. Life has changed overnight for the Yadav family from West Delhi's Punjabi Bagh with the 24 deliveries that their 21-year-old son bowled for Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL game against Punjab Kings on a Saturday evening. Mayank has become the toast of the nation in 15 minutes flat and every Indian cricket fan would pray that he brings glory to the country for the next 15 years. "If Ustaadji and Devender bhai had not been around, my son wouldn't have come this far. I wanted him to play cricket but they prepared him for all the big tests," Prabhu couldn't thank the late Tarak Sinha ...

IPL 2024 DC vs CSK Preview: Formidable Chennai face lacklustre Delhi

Delhi Capitals will be aiming to rejig their out-of-depth batting order by bringing in the flamboyant Prithvi Shaw in the mix against defending champions Chennai Super Kings, in what could be safely termed as a 'battle of unequals' on Sunday's Indian Premier League match. In T20 format, reputations do go for a toss but DC in their last four meetings haven't been able to get past CSK and the margins of defeat -- 91, 27 and 77 runs respectively does paint a sorry picture. One also needs to take into account that in those three heavy losses, the core of the Delhi team has been more or less the same, save their last meeting when Rishabh Pant wasn't available. Hence a win against CSK would be considered as a big upset in the tournament. If CSK once again looks like a team to beat with all its bases nicely covered, it has been quite the opposite for the Ricky Ponting-coached DC, which has been outplayed in both departments of the game. DC's co-owners GMR and JSW have been completely mes

IPL 2024 GT vs SRH Preview: Hyderabad's explosive form threatens Titans

A depleted Gujarat Titans bowling attack will have to raise their game by quite a few notches if they intend to stop a marauding Sunrisers Hyderabad fresh from their record total against Mumbai Indians, in the upcoming afternoon IPL match here on Sunday. Sunrisers are coming here on the back of breaking the ceiling for all time IPL total when they plundered 277 against Mumbai Indians to secure their first win of the season. First time skipper Shubman Gill's Titans, who started off with a win at home against Mumbai Indians, on the other hand slipped in Chennai in their previous game. The profligate Umesh Yadav is no match for injured Mohmmed Shami and that is proving to be a big factor for Titans. The resounding 63-run affected their net run rate as it plummeted to -1.425, worst among the league's 10 teams, which could cause some problems towards the business end of the tournament. It can't be denied that losing Hardik Pndya, who lend necessary balance with his all-round skills has

IPL 2024. LSG vs PBKS preview: LSG eye all-round effort to pull things back

Lucknow Super Giants will aim for an improved all-round effort when they take on Punjab Kings in their second Indian Premier League match here on Saturday. K L Rahul-led LSG faltered in the opening game against Rajasthan Royals, losing by 20 runs in Chandigarh. Barring Krunal Pandya, all the LSG bowlers leaked runs and also looked ineffective. In the absence of Mark Wood and David Willey, LSG's pace battery looks thin with the likes of Mohsin Khan, Naveen-ul-Haq, and Yash Thakur expected to do the heavy lifting. Fighting for a place in the upcoming T20 World Cup squad, Ravi Bishnoi too looked ordinary in the team's tournament opener. Skipper Rahul, who has decided to play the wicketkeeper-batter's role keeping the T20 World Cup in mind, made 58 in his comeback game and would be looking to build on that. He would be hoping his opening partner Quinton de Kock returns to his belligerent best against Punjab after missing out against Royals. The team is also banking on the likes of De
