A dismissed Army personnel running a fake soldiers' recruitment racket while impersonating as a colonel has been arrested along with his three accomplices, officials said Friday. The police team which arrested sacked Army man Kulwinder Singh, also seized several incriminating documents and other articles from the tricksters' 'office' that they used to keep changing in the city. The seized articles included Army uniforms, medals, laptops, mobile phones and forged Army recruitment records. The police made the arrest acting on a complaint by one Mohinder Kumar of Shamachak, Jhiri and others who alleged that Kulwinder Singh and his accomplices duped unemployed youths of Rs two to five lakhs on the promise of getting them recruited in the defence force. The tricksters initially operated from an office at Paloura in Jammu but later shifted their bases to Muthi Camp and Janipur, the officials said. The Mumbai Crime Branch have busted a job racket and arrested three persons, including a woman, who promised people recruitment as ticket collector in the railways, an official said Friday. He identified the arrested persons as Rajeshkumar Tanti (28) of Bihar, Manishsingh Udaybhan Rai (39) from Uttar Pradesh and a woman from suburban Andheri. "The accused used to pose as Chief Personnel Officer of the railways and would promise jobs as ticket collectors after taking Rs 7 lakh per person. Hundreds of job-seekers have been duped this way," he said. "They were given appointment letters after medical tests. All these letters were fake. The gang even deputed select candidates at various railway stations, including Chhapra in Bihar's Saran district," he said. The CBI filed its first chargesheet Friday in a case of alleged sexual assault of a woman in Tamil Nadu's Pollachi and charged five suspects with rape, within a month of taking over the probe, officials said. CBI spokesperson Nitin Wakankar said the chargesheet has been filed against Sabarirajan alias Riswanth, K Thirunavukkarasau, M Sathish, T Vasanth Kumar and R Mani in a special court in Coimbatore. The agency said Sabarirajan worked as a site supervisor at a private construction company, while Thirunavukkarasau and Vasanth were in money-lending business. Mani and Sathish were businessmen and are in their twenties. All the five accused are in judicial custody in Coimbatore jail, he said. Two persons were booked here on the charge of rape, police said Friday. The accused were identified as Kamal Meghwanshi (20) and Ramesh Meghwanshi (21), both residents of Kanwali village in Pushkar, police added. The victim had lodged a complaint Thursday, accusing them of raping her in March, police said. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended one person from Bihar's Champaran district in connection with a fake currency case in Hyderabad.The accused, identified as 28-year-old Tajamul SK, was apprehended by the agency from Champaran in connection with Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) case."The case pertains to the seizure of FICN of the face value of Rs. 10 lakh from two persons namely Mahaboob Baig alias Azhar Baig and Syed Imran by the Directorate of Revenue at Visakhapatnam last year," the agency said in a statement.During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused persons had travelled to Malda from Bangalore and collected the FICN from Saddam alias Firoj Saikh, one of the associates of accused Tajamul SK.

The American Civil Liberties Union and Planned Parenthood filed the lawsuit on behalf of abortion providers seeking to overturn the Alabama law that would make performing an abortion at any stage of pregnancy a felony punishable by up to 99 years or life in prison for the abortion provider. The only exception would be when the woman's health is at serious risk. The law is set to take effect in November unless blocked by a judge. Three children, siblings, died of suffocation after getting stuck in a car here Friday, police said. The deceased were identified as Poonam (6), her sister Bulbul (4) and their brother Pratik (3), said an official of Sanver police station. Probe suggested that the children saw the car with its doors open parked in a vacant plot near their house and climbed in, he said. They probably closed the doors and could not open them again, he said. About a three hours later, a passer-by noticed that children were lying unconscious inside the car. He got them out with the help of others and took them to a local hospital. But the children were declared dead on arrival by doctors. Further probe is on, the police official said.
